This reply is more to the kids that come around later and see this pixelated, weird ratio, funky ass video. Screens were smaller, and resolution was lower, so when this came out it did take up the entire screen, and it look as great as anything we'd seen at the time. Rendering technology was also way less efficient, so once it hit youtube it got a lot worse to look at. Compression was a bitch back in the 00's. If you knew all this, this comment wasn't for you.
Guess so lmao. But in all honesty, where are any of thrice's "official videos"? There aren't any that are any better. And no song they ever done was lyrically comparable. Maybe silhouette was close but not equal. And the drum line in this mfer...its over with.

Okay, I REALLY hate to be that guy, because honestly, Thrice has been a long obsession of mine... but the song was released in 2002... 2003 is the Artist in the Ambulance era of Thrice
when deadbolts awake you from deja vu dreams, at four in the morning you know where I'll be. out running red lights asleep at the wheel. the sirens feed my nightmares, I just close my eyes and I'm already here; its already too late. I know its nothing but lies, but they sound so sincere; I find them too hard to hate. and she calls from the doorway "stolen water is sweet, so let's drink it in the darkness if you know what I mean" and she calls from the doorway "stolen water is sweet, so let's drink it in the darkness if you know what I mean" and I'm almost sure that I've been here before, that this is not the first time I've stood in front of this door, with an overwhelming feeling that I shouldn't go in, but it seems this is a battle that I never could win. and you! my true love! you call from the hilltop. you call through the streets, "Darling don't you know, the water is poison." and I say! Identity crisis is still my favorite, it came out right before first college summer. My best friends/ band mates used to play these songs at house parties. I was playing drums now guitar, music still rocks. We played a show at the hard Rock Cafe and they had Dustin's guitar on the wall and let me play it for a few minutes, one of the coolest music moments I have had.
For me, one of the most underrated bands ever. The progression of sound through their lifespan was impeccable to say the least. Deadbolt and Trust in particular epitomized one of their earlier evolutions in sound maturity and I’ve been hooked ever since. This song keeps bringing me back to a much better time in music. ❤
It amazes me how Thrice was probably one of the only bands in history to make such a smooth, yet speedy transition from punk to prog. rock. I don't think any band in the world could do that in 1 album.
Wow, 10 years ago today this was uploaded (though the song itself is about 15). I was probably 16 or 17 when I first saw this after school on MTV2. Now I'm 31, life has gone nowhere but crap, but it's nice to reminisce here and again. Only wish RUclips was around in 2002. Would've saved a lot of money on VHSes that I used to record all these videos on. 😁
+CodeDarkBlue The video looks that bad because of how long its been up, If they re uploaded the original it would look fine, its just standard definition, Hd wasnt around in 2002

Loved Thrice since I was in HS and was so stoked when Illusion of Safety came out. This was 2002. They've been around a longgggg time! Hope you had a great time seeing them.
What amazes me is both how good this song is circa 2002, and how much better it was on their live album, especially Dustin's singing. His voice has gotten so much richer. Say what you will about the album Beggars, you can't argue that his vocals haven't drastically improved over the lifetime of Thrice.
Thrice were as hardcore punk as any 1980's band at the start. Then, they started to slow down their music album by album... Vheissu was a masterpiece rock album, but I think the two following albums have been a bit disappointing :( I like thrice anyway
THRICE is amazing! Old to new, not many bands can do what they did. Not many bands can progress and grow after their first hit. This is true talent, like Tool, and Nine Inch Nails.
Their music has drawn in many different crowds from the bro, the goth kids, the metal heads, etc. Their fans threw books at them to read. Their lyrics have always been thought provoking. Just let people enjoy.

Yeah I think that a lot....but really like the new album. I never really liked anything after Artist in the Ambulance, until now. But still....yeah it would be sweet if they put out something this fast and without all the production.
This song comes almost entirely from Proverbs 9, where it discusses folly and wisdom and how the woman of folly stands by her doorway calling to those who pass by saying "Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret is delicious," and how her guests are in "the depths of the grave." Meanwhile, the woman of wisdom calls from the highest points of the city "Walk in the way of understanding." Pretty cool, huh?

Maybe music would be good again? XD Just look in the right places. The only time 1 genre took over everything was with punk. And that's probably not going to happen again.
