Not only does she have an established financial basis to work from.She also has an established and dedicated fanbase. Debut merch was a logical, rational and sound business decision.

We know that she made a lot in Hololive so it's not like she was poor but re-debuting still meant that she had pay for it all herself. The merch helped offset the cost of her debut, which goes a long way since she's essentially on her own now.
Turning on a stream is free though, why is it normal for "Debuts" to be some sort of manufactured spectacle? She's just streaming. No other streamers need hundreds of dollars to hit record.
