    Nice overview and completely agree that the dams should go.

    6:47 At least they put up a sign to warn the fish that they shouldn't go that way. That's quite considerate.

    Thankyou for the well edited video! I heard about this crisis in 2017. I called Murray and Inslee this morning and left messages. Remember you can send letters people, put pressure on them! Take salmon off the menu just for a while. We can save the salmon!

    This is absolutely heartbreaking. We knew what would happen to the same and when we built the dams, and we built them in order to subsidize the farming industry. Now we are told that the cost of farmers would be just too great. As though the salmon and the whales have no value. I just had to leave in the middle of a virtual conference from the ‘Andrus public policy Institute’ on the Snake River because all of the speakers were only talking about the cost to business and even went as far as saying that the salmon are fine. That they are not going extinct. This event was put on by Boise State University in Idaho, yet speakers including congressional representative from Washington Dan Newhouse were rejecting climate and conservation science, without providing sources. It is hard to believe that the salmon and the whales will be saved. 💔💔💔💔💔💔💔

    Boondoggle, pork-barrel politics built the Snake River Dams (they were never economically viable). But the dams transferred wealth from nature and the people dependent on the salmon economy along the coast and rivers (whole communities and an entire region), to a relative few with big dollars, buying influence. Not people vs. fish: it was and is, people with influence vs. people without.

    “Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself.” - Chief Seattle
    "What is really amazing, and frustrating, is mankind's habit of refusing to see the obvious and inevitable until it is there, and then muttering about unforeseen catastrophes." Isaac Asimov
    Half the fertile land on earth is now farmland.
    70% of the mass of birds on this planet are domestic birds, mostly chickens.
    We account for over 1/3 the weight of mammals on Earth. A further 60% are the animals we raise to eat.
    Wild animals make up just 4% of the weight of mammals on Earth.
    Wild animal populations have more than halved in the last fifty years.
    We take everything and leave nothing for the rest of life. We are in the middle of a mass extinction which we have caused.

      salmon farming is the mistake, dam breaching is the solution

    How does a river that empties out in Portland feed orcas in the Puget sound?

    • @orcaguy4153
      @orcaguy4153  3 года назад +5

      It feeds the southern residents because they spend more than 50% of their time on the outer coast where they can intercept Snake River salmon, and Columbia/snake river salmon make up over half of their outer coast diet.

      The orcas "in Puget Sound" only spend a brief period of the year in Puget Sound. They spend much of the year on the outer coast, and over 50% of their diet comes from the Snake River system.

      Empties into Portland? Are you high? The Columbia River briefly touches Oregon goes through Portland and back into Washington state on its way to the Pacific

    Starving whales is from the Canadian salmon farming not the snake River dams

    • @orcaguy4153
      @orcaguy4153  3 года назад +1

      The whales are starving for more than one reason.
