awesome sounding pickup. I came here because found a used Gretsch G5120 that someone upgraded with the Setzer signature pickups. I have had a Gretsch with TV JONES Classics, and loved them Crystal clear as a bell, but these blew me away on the distortion, doing some Van Halen licks.
I saw these new Setzer Sig pickups on the TV Jones site a week ago and really wanted to hear them, as they didn't have a sample of them yet. So lucky day, those sound awesome and I think I finally decided what to replace the fidelitrons in my thinline cab with. And also really cool to actually hear Joe Gores voice...Ive seen all his youtube vids, but he does them silent with subtitles and lets the guitars, amps and fx do the talking.
The pickups sound great, but what I really love is that experimental guitar with the slots to slide those "pickup sticks" in an out. Genius idea, I'm definitely going to have to mod or build something like that!
PstScrpt Lol, fewer guitars. I think it would take a very strong willed player to stop buying guitars just because one of them happens to be able to swap pickups. I guess if you're really going for the minimalist who wants everything approach you would need at least 2 or 3 of them with different scale lengths and bridges. One that's 25.5", one that's 24.75, and maybe a PRS style 25" just to cover everything. Oh and then you need a baritone and a 7 string, and one made out of swamp ash, and...I think I'm gonna start a guitar company and make all of these with swappable pickups.
While I'm 8 years behind and stuck owning an expensive es335 clone with PAFs, I finally found clean tones without harsh upper mid barks and highs that are not ice-picky. But I didn't know to use TV jones pickups. Instead, I added some clean compression together with some ungained push on the highs, which was not easy as PAFs filter out highs and bark when clean. I don't think the result is as great as having TV Jones pickups, but I do also get a fantastic Kenny Burrell Jazzy midnight blue tone I love but might (or might not) lose with TJ Jones. And I didn't have to worry about how to fit traditional filtertrons into PAF humbucker sockets. (But I do think TV Jones makes filtertrons sized to replace humbuckers.)
Im not sure if it’s just an adjustment but my new TV Jones in my Gretsch sound like they are too twangy and quite on the high E. I’m just plugged straight into a Fender amp. Thoughts?
So why hasn't anyone came out with a production guitar that you can easily change the pickups in/out of like that? I have never seen a test rig before but it seems like that's a simple idea that would be a great idea for a guitar line even if its just a gimmick. I wonder what would be the proper way to mod a guitar to do this?
Am I the only person that wishes the guy would have given the guitar straight to Joe to play, he's a much better player than most of the people he's talking to.
***** Thanks, I was beginning to think I really was the only one. Seems like a lot of people visiting this video have no idea who Joe is or about his "Tonefiend" youtube channel.
I love how easy it is to change out pickups on this guitar. It looks pretty cool too.
Wow, they sound so nice. Thank you Mr. Jones for playing multiple genre of music.

He played ‘Stop’ by Janes Addiction
anyone else heard kashmir in the background?
Those sounds great, the problem would be to work out which guitar to put them in??
Digging the cool Van Halen riff that he threw in there
I did sound for The BrianSettzer Orch.a few times znd have never been disappointed
Loving Joe's commentary on the tone. I think you guys should seriously think of having him do more trade show coverage.
Wow! I can even play metal with those beauties, am I Right?
This is neat. I'm used to Joe's tonefiend videos where he doesn't talk.

All I can say is wow. Those sound fantastic! I feel like I might need a neck position one in the near future.
That neck position was silky. I wanted more. These would be a great addition to any guitar
Diggin that mule guitar!!!
