Just for a bit of background the first part of the building that you entered up to about 6 minutes was used as the sheriff court whilst the main sheriff court in Dumfries town centre was being renovated in the 1990s. Hence the more modern flooring, staircase and decor.
The chapel was used as the lighthouse church in the mid/late 2000s and a youth group hence the pool table and decor in some of the rooms.
There was also a radio station situated in the upper floor next to the chapel called Alive Radio back in 2006.
There was also a film made here (2002) about Irish nuns called The Magdeleine Sisters.
Things you missed:
-Nuns graveyard in the grounds outside.
-The holding cells for the court in the basement, very eerie, especially when trying to find electrical switch boards in the pitch black.
Background to the Benedictine Convent, Dumfries [credit: Canmore org]:
Corbelly Hill Convent was recorded on Tuesday 16 August [date unknown] as part of the Threatened Buildings Survey. On Tuesday 9 August 2022 a fire broke out affecting the northern part of this large building. The survey provides a record of the building after the fire, but before any structural alterations or demolitions are undertaken to make the building structurally safe.
The dowager Marcia, Lady Herries funded the new convent for the nuns of the Perpetual Adoration on Corbelly Hill in Dumfries. The initial much larger scheme by Pugin and Pugin was exhibited at the Royal Academy and published in the _Building News_ 30 December 1881. A more modest scheme designed by Pugin and Pugin was built in 1881-4, presumably intended as the first phase of the grander published scheme. The initial building consisted of the chapel and an L-plan range of accommodation for the Convent. This was extended by James Barbour, not following the original plans, in 1890. He added the substantial block to the south to house the Convent school. The convent closed in 1988 and moved to Largs. Amongst other uses, It later housed a temporary Sheriff court. The building has been empty for some time and has been suffering from vandalism.

Teenager charged after massive fire at historic Corbelly Hill convent in Dumfries. The historic former convent on Corbelly Hill, near the town’s Maxwell Street, was engulfed in flames in the early hours of 9 August 2022.
The property, which dates back to 1884, has been abandoned for a number of years and attempts to sell the property twice, in 2008 and 2020 failed.
Police Scotland confirmed on Tuesday that a 19-year-old man had been charged in connection with the incident.
A statement by the force read: 'Police in Dumfries can confirm that a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with a fire at the Convent on Maxwell Street, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday 9 August 2022.
'A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal, and he is expected to appear at court at a later date.'

Cannot believe they can leave a building as big as this unused when we have so many people sleeping rough keep up the good work guys ...
I think Holy wow was very apt, what a wonderful building
Good to have this record of it, as it seems to have been destroyed by fire overnight (9/8/22). The local vandals had had several goes at burning it down in the past.
That is in a remarkable undamaged condition for its age. .... It just goes to show that some 19th century buildings can be looked after and not left to rot. .... This must be Grade II Listed I guess ? ... This could be brought back from abandoned - to hospitable with not a vast amount of money being spent on restoration. .... I do hope it gets the love and care it deserves in the not too distant future ? ... Another great tour lads, Thank you.
An extraordinary explore! So nice to see that this building hasn’t been trashed!
Please refer to my update, above, s. Sad times.
All the best. Rab
Thanks for the mention guys! Another cracking video as usual, I love that floor!
What an amazing place. Absolutely tragic that it’s empty and unloved. Thank you for uploading 🖤
I just started watching you “guys” and I am so impressed. The introductions, the music, the photography and videos, amazing and so well done!!! I love how you tell us about each abandoned complex you find. The way you navigate the camera is perfect! My Vertigo never surfaces watching your videos 😃! I look forward to watching many more. Thank you. My days are so much more interesting tuning into your program! Good Luck in with your future adventures!!!
Another excellent video guys. I love your work. Looking forward to the next one.
Fantastic exploration! As far as CCTV I would definitely risk it! This place was eye candy!! Well done 👍
This was a great find. It’s so nice to see older buildings that haven’t been wrecked. Your commentary certainly adds to your excitement 😀

Fire destroyed part of this building a couple of weeks back. I've seen a couple more videos of this place....despite CCTV and wailing alarm bells no-one comes.
What a beautiful old building ,I noticed but empty courtyard outside was once a beautiful garden on one of your pictures
This building was used in the movie The Magdalen Sisters
Fabulous stained glass windows. Good photography.
The building was not an orphanage, it was a school. The pedestal in the chapel are actually the steps of a huge altar by the famous Pugin family. It is now in a Catholic church in Edinburgh.
beautiful building!
WOW such a stunning building
Amazing place great video
What a stunning place!
Omg amazing explore
Yeah I’d walk through an abandoned building with internal CCTV as there’s often something amazing waiting to be uncovered inside. Also, should you get caught exploring and accused of vandalism, the CCTV could act as your evidence that you were simply just exploring, not vandalising the property.
That's a very good point and precisely. You always have to hope that the CCTV isn't being monitored directly and is played back later, because, otherwise, there aren't many easier confirmations of trespassers to a security guard than live footage of a person inside.
great stuff guys, one of your best yet. I am itching to know where this is, even though I know identifying it is off the menu, I couldn't be as bold as you guys, I'd just photograph the OUTSIDE
this was a very interesting one, thanks
Excellent explore.
Nice report 👍🏻
big love for this channel kay uk x
Absolutely fantastic explore. It is amazing that such an impressive structure was built for an Orphanage.
What a beautiful place. The sad thing is that it is left abandoned and unloved like that. I hope it can be used for some purpose again.Yes I would explore it CCTV and all. The worst that could happen would be getting escorted out by security or police. I reckon the power is on to keep the security system running. Worth the risk I would say. Thanks for the tour.
Love this
Rare pir under that camera ! 16:04
The church stain glass windows are magnificent. What a shame it is just setting there when it could be put to use. It is a wonderful place. Thank you
Great place, was sealed when we went down
This was my school in the late 70s...happy memories! Sadly, it was ruined by a fire a year or so ago
That's dreadful. Such an incredible building. I'm sad to know of its fate. 😢
Now that you have explored it and put it online for us to enjoy, I hope the owner(s) of this place would at least secure all of the doors so what work has been done and what items are inside are not stolen and the place graffitied up.
I would definitely walk in cctv because it’s the unknown of the building not many brave enough to step in the building one of a kind you don’t know what you’re in the room or the building find hidden gem.
hell yeah id go into an abandoned building with internal cctv I love avoiding and cameras lol
Would be nice to see you all at some point in a video. I Enjoy you're vids
FABULOUS BUILDING, FABULOUS ARCHITECTURE YOU WOULD THINK AN ENTREPRENEUR WOULD DO SOMETHING WITH THIS, PS SOMEONE IS GOING TO HAVE TO PAY FOR THE ELECTRICITY.
In respond to the question I personally wouldn’t risk it yes the rewards might be high but the risks are higher
Also if the cameras was live you would see a red light in low light areas, Also the power and interned would be needed. I know this as its my job to install CCTV
Beautiful building - that Stained Glass was absolutely stunning. This sounds odd to say on an urbandoned video but the lack of security after the alarm went off is somewhat concerning. Makes me worry about vandals getting in there and there being no response until it's too late. Hopefully this building can be given some love and restored. It looks like the beautiful garden's at the front are all gone now.
Interesting video looks just like you think an orphanage would look like. Shame these buildings are allowed to rot while there are thousands homeless.
I'd imagine it has internal CCTV because it's still owned by the Catholic Church, although abandoned. The past horrific histories of many of the religious buildings meant they had to abandon them before they were brought to rights!
I was just wondering why it is abandant...
@@rickacampbell-young17 abandant?
The Catholic Church never owned the building. It was built and owned by the Herries family. When the nuns moved to Largs it was sold to a business man from Northern Ireland who owned it for decades before selling it to a local firm.
Well I wouldn't due to my job I do security but if come across you guys or Dave and Mark from AWE and Colin the bearded explorer I don't know what I do probably I not seen you
Unfortunately I live near this and it has since been set on fire twice
Ur bandond?..
I KNEW I WAS ADOPTED MOMMMMM
Surely a developer would buy that. Would be good to see it as flats etc
Looks Nicer then the group homes lmao
CAUTION! Trigger Warning for anyone who attended here as a child.
Yeah I would go through an abandoned building with cctv. Would do it at night though and take a cheap eBay infrared torch to point at the cameras as I passed them. Being cctv cameras the have no infrared filter so my torch temporarily blinds the camera keeping my face a secret. 👍
A beautiful building, with no doubt a troubled past. The Catholic churches are very rarely sold, they tend to hang on to them and sadly let them rot as they own so many and legally too much work that takes years to get anywhere with. Great find, thanks 🇦🇺

Worse where they steal copper wire from Power Substations. Or a dentist office below the floor, shut the business down for repairs. Also lead roof thieves too, London Metropolitan Police helicopter expensive too.
Where.do.find,them.would.visit
Another beautiful building, unfortunately probably hiding a sordid history.
I wouldn't walk through and abandoned building with inside cctv, i may be there for good intent to document and photograph the property but from their point of view I'm breaking and entering
turn into flats. to help the home less.
Looks like somewhere lara croft would live, just need the butler to lock in the freezer
"Would you walk through an abandoned building know that it has internal CCTV?"
I would most likely walk around the abandoned building 🏚 than go inside, but if I had to go inside then I am most likely wear a gas mask or a mask👺 of some description to avoid identification.
Where is this place ? Whats it called cant find anything on it online.
St Benedict' convent Dunfries, Scotland.
wow nots
Hei, nuts ja ..
Forsure, Herra Stein. 🤔🤣😂
Burnt down now...probably an insurance job.
never was an orphanage it was a catholic school for girls, has been empty since the nineties, the chapel caught fire a few months ago, causing extensive damage.
Was the Salvation Army anything to do with that???
No, it was a Catholic convent and school.
Building like this should not have decay, natural or otherwise.
Someone must water that plant at 10:54
Why? It's obviously plastic.
@@Perthshire OK
I prob know folk who went there
this reminds me of the promised neverland
If those walls could talk..
I'm probably not the first to ask this, but why don't you approach whatever holding company is in charge of these places first, to ask permission? Yes, some would probably say 'no', but some of them might agree, especially if they are trying to get backing to refurbish the property.
I do find it disrespectful of the bar language used in the churches and chaples. Other than that I do enjoy your videos
given the chronic and systematic abuse that most certainly happened in that building a little bad language is not really what should be annoying you.
It's not the only video they have featured a holy place and used inappropriate language.
@@MolloyPolloy Well said!
@@MolloyPolloy No abuse took place in the building. Just ask any of the former pupils.
They do not build them like they used to.
