This vod makes me so sad 😢 Tango, I, for one, watch Hermitcraft because watching other people truly nerd out and get excited about a project fills me with joy. The fact that people's comments have dimmed your flame is painful to see. There are hundreds of people playing vanilla Minecraft. There is only one Tango Tech, and I want to follow your spark wherever it leads, be it custom models or anything else. Please don't listen to the killjoys; they're loud, but they're not all of us. I was delighted to see how excited you were in your last episode, and I hope you can find a way to shake off the comments and ignore them; they Don't Get It.

Tango, I'm a lurker by trade so I don't usually comment, but I wanted to let you know that I love how creative the custom models allow you to be. Sure, I don't like to *play* minecraft with custom models, but watching the atmosphere you hermits can achieve with yours, like the mailbags, Scar's hats, the custom paintings, the fun food items, is so incredibly enjoyable for me to watch. Do what makes you happy. I'll be here regardless of how far your game strays from traditional "vanilla", because mostly I love your wacky shenanigans and unfiltered joy as you play on hermitcraft with your friends.

I’m just going to throw my 2 cents out there on your frustration topics. Take it for what it’s worth.
    1) The red stone deal. I’m not sure if anyone making the “fleeced” comments has actually watched you over the seasons. It’s evident to me that you don’t care about the diamonds. You care about the playing Minecraft. Decked out and the Deep Frost Citadel were master pieces constructed with virtually no diamond funding.
    2) The conveyor belts. Hermitcraft has long been using retexturing packs for hats, snacks, etc. Impulse made moving mob skins for Scarland. I’m sure every time it’s done, there are folks on both sides of the aisle. I just hope that you will make the decision based on what keeps you excited. When you debuted the conveyor belts, the only thing that mattered to me was seeing your excitement. The Hermit’s excitement in what they’re doing is what makes it worth watching. It prevents burn-out and it’s the real working component of the server.
My husband and I love watching all the Hermits and have picked up so many phrases from you all. 😂 If you knew my husband, you’d know this is special. Keep being excited Tango. It’s infectious and such a highlight for people.

The custom models add a nice aesthetic, a little extra flair to things, but they're not some massive game-changing thing. As for the QOL stuff, I think some of those are pretty much essential, just based on the amount of time you spend playing this game.
If people really want to see vanilla Minecraft, they can just rewatch older seasons.
Edit: It is absolutely 'nip it in the bud'. And it most likely did come from gardening (there's a thing you do with roses where you cut off all but one of the new buds when they're really small so you just get one flower, but it grows much bigger because all the energy that would have gone to those other buds goes to that one bud instead; it gives you a really big, beautiful rose).

To back up what others have been saying, Hermitcraft is about the Hermits first and foremost. What Hermits do should reflect the desires and creativity of every Hermit.
What we love about Hermitcraft and what makes it so different to other SMPs is that Hermitcraft feels like a piece of the internet that still feels human.
You guys treat Hermitcraft the way any server should be and that's an openhanded road of potential, with plenty of room to experiment with datapacks and vanilla assets.
We're not the Hermits. We're not the ones who have to decide how to make Hermitcraft fun. We're not the ones who have control (nor should we).
Do what it is you actually want to do and bring your imagination to life however you and the other hermits please. Its your server, your place to hang out with friends, you do you.
The audience can simply sit and enjoy what the result is and if they don't like it, hey, its one less viewer who never was going to contribute anyways.
Anyone who reads this needs to remember that content creation is fundamentally about artistic expression and the ability to share what one enjoys to the world at large. It must come from the heart of the artist, not from the ramblings of the crowd.

Absolutely agree with you as far as the redstone shop, permits, and the like. I can't wait to see your design for the shop, I think the fun part is gonna be seeing how you set it up with everything in one place, and it's definitely cooler to be able to sell them all

For me, I love the concept you have for the belts, it is definitely how I, and probably most people, would have done it. It's just the art that's the issue, especially the background. Once you fix that I guarantee 90% of people will be fine with it and actually love it.

Prefacing this with it doesnt make enough of a difference for me, and I'd prefer Tango do what he want, but I find there's a line with custom models, and for me that is decorative blocks like (unfortunately for the conversation) the conveyers. I think custom hats and bundles and music disks add a lot of flavour within minecraft, but I think fundamentally minecraft builds is about making something out of the tools provided. I think of things like the "chair" that are stairs with signs on each side, or the planters that are minecarts with flowers or crops in. The sort of ingenuity of it all would be reduced if you just instead had a custom model for a chair or planter. I also wasn't a fan in season 8 when Xisuma made the derpcoin blocks, but didn't mind derp coins themselves. Cos at what point do you just build the whole build, assign it a customer model, and paste that over just a tonne of dirt.

I think the issue is more the clashing high-res textures. They don't need to be that detailed, and making them that detailed doesn't look great in Minecraft.
Edit: Nvm, he discussed that later in the stream. As long as the art is cleaned, I'm game.

In response to the controversy over the conveyor belts: maybe you could do slime block piston launchers to slide over ice paths? I think that would look more steam-punk, having machinery clunking along and the items sliding around.

I'm not too bothered by the conveyor belt model as it's not even functional. It still has a modded feeling to it and I have to wonder what an actual conveyor belt would look like, built in vanilla. So something like a piston feed tape going around the storage room, either with slabs and full blocks, cauldrons, or honey and slime blocks. It'd be a lot more work, but it could be pretty fun.

In terms of the bee sounds I think it might matter how you're listening to the game. I was listening to this video through my computer's speakers and I couldn't hear the buzzing at all. Even if I turned it up and held my ear right to the speaker. I plugged my headphones in the test it and suddenly the sound was super obvious even though they're pretty crappy headphones. So maybe some speakers/headphones just can't make that particular pitch or play that sound super quietly or something. Also yeah some people may keep their block sounds turned down.

55:42 a soul sand bubble column can launch entities upward several blocks, he could just put a hopper minecart halfway on top of a hopper positioned one block to the side and launch the item up through the bottom of the minecart, which would then get pushed/pulled into the regular hopper and thus into the mailbox.

Maybe on a more economy focused server the "fleeced" comments would've been correct but this is a friendly server where you guys are constantly doing nice things for each other for free or almost free. Besides, every hermit seems to end up with multiple stacks of diamond blocks by the end of the season. I don't think any of the Hermits genuinely care that much about how many diamonds their shops generate, it's literally just a catalyst for plots involving the economy and the permit office.

Always remember the people that complain play Minecraft for free and have no accolades to their name. You've come a long way and have suffered throughout many Vanilla playthroughs, it's more than fine to spice things up. Also those commenters are just jealous cause they don't know how to change textures 😂. Love all that you and the hermits put out, number one smp for a reason, keep it up!

The custom models and stuff are great when they're purely cosmetic. If I can download the map later and everything looks and works great even without the data pack, great! It's when it starts being vital to the experience (looking at you decked out 2) that it irks me.

43:30 Ya know, it's pretty crazy there are people so harped on about it. Like these things have been used on hermitcraft for years at this point, and like they're purely visual (or audio, in some cases), so I don't think it should be that big of a deal. It's adds a lot more fun to these things, right?

15:50 Im personally not a huge fan of the conveyor belt model, it feels too moded. Id like to see piston feed tapes used, although I wouldn't mind if some of the blocks like slime/ honey blocks had their textures changed. That way it still feels "Minecrafty" while keeping the same aesthetic. I also recommend only running the pistons when a player is inside the factory too reduce lag.

  • @Sh3phrd

Suggestion for the layout of the redstone corner:
    Redstone Torch
    Repeater
Comparator (these go together thematically for me)
    Dropper
    Dispenser
    Piston
    Sticky piston
    Observer
Then continue with whatever is next.
I think this is the same amount of space required, but could be wrong.
Also don't forget you can always extend the platform by a block or 2 to give you a little more space. I would probably do so here.
Looking awesome man, can't wait to see how it all comes together!

I get the resistance to the conveyors because of its similarities to existing mods. But I love that the *function* is 100% vanilla driven and only the visual is from a mod. It still fits the feel of Hermitcraft while being totally Tango.
I think to ditch them would be a huge, huge loss. The vanilla mechanics that drive them are what makes them so amazing. Please don’t lose them.

My opinion on custom models and data packs comes down to the fact that I enjoy trying to use Minecraft's limitations to still make an interesting build. In my own worlds, bringing in someone else's art in place of my own creativity defeats the purpose of that.
I've never had a problem with what you've done with the custom models, because like you say it isn't taking it to the extreme, it's just a cool touch that helps bring your vision to life. And on top of that, you're super involved with creating the models, so it's not like you're stealing someone else's ideas; it's just a different medium for your own creativity, and it really brings life and a unique style to your builds

with respect to the minecraft purists, this is your vision your builds, you gameplay, do what makes you happy, and what represents your vision best. They can love or hate it, but that's for them to decide and live with. Chin up me ol'muka.
Also, is the the beauty and freedom of Minecraft as both a game and a tool not to bring your imagination and creativity to life? When did that stop being the message?
