- #ilovervlife #mayberry #mtairync Joan and I are huge Andy Griffith fans. We watch the old reruns with Andy, Barney, Opie and the rest of the gang on a regular basis. We were looking for some summer time in the North Carolina Mountains and found a number of nice campgrounds near Mt. Airy, NC - the town used as the model for the Andy Griffith’s Show’s Mayberry. Staying nearby at MayBerry Campground, we spent the day visiting the Andy Griffith Museum and the town of Mt. Airy.

Added to my list of places to see. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Tom. My pleasure. This was a fun place and very nice folks.
Keep coming back
You bet! Spring trip is in the works.
I live in Mount Airy NC. I love it so much! Never want to leave home! You need to try dairy center the next time you come!!
After our visit, I can see why. Such a nice area and everyone was so friendly.
same! i go to mms i live by the walmart where golden corral is
Same ❤👍
I live in Dobson bois
I absolutely Love your always upbeat attitude. They way you find the absolute best everywhere you god is amazing. Thanks for what you do...
Thanks so much Charles. We decided at the beginning to create a positive channel. If we enjoy something, we share. If not, we move on to the next place. We thought there was enough drama in the world. Why not bring everyone along for the fun 😎
Love AG shows Need to add this to bucket list
Hope you can. Neat place.
My Grandpa ran a general store in King NC for almost 50 years. Just down Hwy 52 from Mt Airy. I have not been to the museum. RV coming end of month. A fun trip to do. Thank you!
Glad I could share Janice. Such a nice little town.
Wonderful video, thank ya'll so much.
Thanks a bunch.
I drove right by there last August. Petty interesting little town.
Thanks for recording!
Always Glyn.
As a lifelong resident of Mount Airy, I’m glad you enjoyed your stay. Y’all come back now, ya hear!?
We definitely will.
I watch all the time .. even had phone set up with Andy Mayberry song.. would love to visit.. on my bucket list.. is there hotels near by??
No problem with hotels. Several chains minutes from the museum.
I've never been over there thank you for sharing.
Our pleasure. My. Airy definitely has the feel of Mayberry. Now we know where Andy Griffith got so much of his inspiration. Museum brought so many memories and the town folk were very friendly.
Very nice video. Thank you! I watch MeTV for the vintage shows, too. Rifleman, Andy Griffith, Batman, and more! -Jersey Mike
My pleasure. Glad we could share.
Thanks for taking us along Jerry........
Our pleasure Jimmy. Always fun to share our trips with everyone.
I used to work at WMAZ-TV in Macon and loaded The Andy Griffith Show beta tape into the deck and played it many times while running master control at the station.
Still a favorite when we’re home in Middle Georgia. Andy is always on at 5:30.
I went there last year and visited the Mayberry Distillery. Mostly Moonshine products but pretty good. Of course there are wineries and plenty places to hike as well around Mt Airy...wonderful area to visit.
We underestimated how much there would be in the area to see and do. We just ran out of time. Missed the distillery, but I did have some moonshine peach ice cream from one of the downtown soda fountains. It was pretty good. We also took in several of the wineries one afternoon. They were so much fun and the wines were exceptional. I'll have a video up soon on our winery tour.
@@iLoveRVlife I look forward to that! Thank you for sharing!
Love this. Now on my bucket list. Had no idea about Eng and Chang coming to live in the US!! Thanks for the info!!! You share the neatest things.
My pleasure. Hope you get a chance to visit. Fun little place.
Awww thanks for giving us a look at the Andy Griffith Museum. It's 07/13/2019 and the Andy Griffith show is my favorite of all time. I gotta go see the museum one day. But for now this will do.
Hope you get a chance to go Marty. Fun place.
Looked like a cool place to put on our list!
It was Liz. Fun place to spend a couple days.
We were there in April during our trip back to NJ from Florida. Downtown had a pretty good burger place on the corner.
Fun place. We missed the burger place, but we did have moonshine peach ice cream 😏
Rollin' Into Retirement I Mike and BA Dalberg -- I believe it is called Leon’s Burger Shop! One of our better burger shops! I love the Docs Special burger! 🍔
@@scottkirkpatrick245 The one we were at was called the Loaded Goat :) but Leon's looks great as well!
Andy Griffith! I’m my opinion a true icon of not only the silver screen but of America! A time capsule of TRUE American values an morality in broadcasting. I’m not sure but I probably never missed an episode of any series he was in. And No Time for Sargents...what a great movie😆. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
So glad I could Rick. Interesting. Joan and I had a similar conversation when we left.
Hi Jerry, and Joan, this was awesome. I love watching the Andy Griffiths show. We just started our Fulltime RV life. We have so much to learn. Your videos have great information. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks a bunch Laurel. Fun town and great to see where Andy Griffith received his inspiration. Enjoy you RV travel. Jerry
I live in Mayberry/Mr.Airy and have all my life. If you guy's get the chance to go on a tour riding in the old cop car TAKE IT
I see it everyday so I guess it's no big deal to me but there's a ton of great shop's around here and beautiful views. If you take a walk down main street be sure to stop by Snappy Lunch and get you a pork chop sandwich. You'll never forget it!
We had so much fun. We just ran out of time. Snappy Lunch is on the list when we return. We didn't take the ride, but talked to the guys at Wally's for about an hour. We got the low down on all things Mt. Airy.
Man that was great , thanks for sharing , i want to go now ! Haha
Thanks Bill. Go! You’ll enjoy a little taste of Mayberry.
Hi, I’m a Andy Griffin fan too. Loved your video
Thanks so much Suzy.
U should check out our RUclips channel, goodtime camp’n
Great video!
Thanks James.
Never knew there was a mayberry. Thanks for the ride.
You bet Bert. There really is!
Thanks for visiting, you're such a lovely couple!! But you didn't eat at the famous Snappy Lunch on mainstreet??!! Oprah visited there one time. Also, did you get to see the old homeplace of Andy? ❤❤
It's just a small yellow house where he grew up
Thank you so much Gina. We so enjoyed Mt. Airy. Everyone was so friendly. Made us feel we were at home. Hate we missed Snappy Lunch. We just ran out of time. Next time for sure. We saw Andy's home, but no tours. Sad☹ We'rr hoping we can return in the near future.
@@iLoveRVlife Great! There is a huge festival in October and people come from all over the U.S. I mean it brings in thousands and books up, months ahead, every hotel around. Hope you all can visit one October 😊❤
How was the campgrounds? Andy is a favorite and I trip I would love to make. Thank you for sharing.
The campground was campground. Gravel. Very open, no trees. Nice grassy areas around the camper. Try to get spaces 1 - 5 on the hill.
Lived here my whole life even went into the marines but i never said where i was from because i was not going through that hell lmao
I can only image! Appreciate your service to our country Jimmy.
a much simplier time in life for the southern family.
Yes it was!
I live in Mt. Airy & ive lived here my whole life & believe it or not I have never been 2 the museums uptown...I have frequented snappy lunch, which has sorta lost its luster, its always great 2 see how much others really enjoy the town....Glad u guys had a wonderful visit...!!!
We did. You live in such a nice town. Everyone was super friendly. We missed Snappy Lunch, but the sushi and service was exceptional at Kazuku Sushi and Bar on Franklin St.
I live in Virginia near Mt. Airy. We go down there often, its a pretty cool place. And they have an Aldi grocery store too.
Fun area. We drove a few minutes south to Yadkin County. Visited a couple vineyards. Great experience.
I live in mount airy didn't I see y all
We were there. Andy museum, Wally’s, all the shops, even had moonshine peach ice cream. We looked for you! Hate we missed you!
MY MOM WORKS AT WALLY’S
Check out Randleman ( Richard Petty ) . The Nascar Hall of Fame is awesome .
Will do. Thanks for the tip.
Mayberry is a Beautiful place!@
Absolutely!
Hell I live here in mt airy and still haven't seen the museum
Mathew Linger same
Been there I came from WV Harpers Ferry
Fun place
@@iLoveRVlife yeah it really is
How fun this one was Jerry! Thanks for sharing. While I’m from Montana my wife is from North Carolina and her father was born in Mount Airy. We hope to travel in our RV back there sometime soon but this was great to wet our appetite!
Hi Jerry. Fun visit and very kind people.
I work at Soho around the corner, did you try our food?
Soho is directly in front on you at 6:17
Unfortunately we didn’t. Short visit this time. Looking forward to coming back and experiencing more of what the town has to offer.
I live in southern Oregon and all the streets in my neighborhood are all named after the Andy Griffith show. Barney fife street, Otis lane, etc. 🙂 Only one not named after the show is the street I live on. "PATRIOT LN" Which is pretty fitting for the area.
That’s amazing Kenny. The developer was quite the fan. Hope your able to head east and visit. Fun little town.
@@iLoveRVlife heading that way very soon 🙂 We are shooting for Aug 1St to be out of our house and full time RV. LOVING ALL YOUR VIDEOS!
Thanks a bunch Kenny.
The props from every show, would be fine, from mcbeeve’s 100 hands,
to the wood carvings of barneys cousin. .The finger print box.
My.airy is my home town,
Kinda of a boring town to grow up in
I know how you feel ive been here over 20 years and there is nothing here
Marissa Lopez - but I would pick no other place in the world to raise my children. 😃
Same. It gets really boring sometimes bc we are just used to the whole Andy Griffith thing, I guess. It's so weird to watch this video.
I know I've been here my whole life and it's completely boring. Plus recently everything is falling apart so it looks trashy.
It's not too bad.
The letter says from Earnest T Bass to Cindy Taylor who was Cindy Taylor ? Shouldn't it be Charleen Darlin ? Thank you misses Wiley !
Watching Andy a million times I missed that!
I've lived here my whole life and i can honestly say its a pretty good town. But one thing i can say is that their is a lot of drug bust right outside in Randolph County and Virginia line
We had a great time, everyone was so friendly. Unfortunately, the bad stuff is happening everywhere.
I grew up in Mount airy. Lots of crime nowadays. There was a guy who killed like 4 people a few years ago there. Literally a serial killer on Mount airy. Stay safe!!!!
No issues while we were there. We felt very safe. As much as we travel, we’ve been to places that were a bit sketchy, but that wasn’t the case in Mt. Airy.
@@iLoveRVlife I think they caught that serial killer tho. But it took a couple years. Mount airy is cool. But only main Street haha. IMHO.
Loved the video! Our Son married a girl from Pilot Mountain just down the road from Mt Airy., And that's where they live with the 3 grand babies. Just a couple miles from the campground is the school where our daughter in law teaches and our grand daughter attended Kindergarten. Such a fun area! We never run out of things to do when we visit from Michigan. We hope to see up a base camp near there so we can spend summers with the kids and travel warmer areas in the winter. E and T's Shadow cruisin adventures on you tube.
Thanks so much. Fun little town. And super friendly.
Can you do something on the campground your at, been here a couple of times but never with the camper.
I'll edit this week and have it on RUclips next.
I remember 5 cent Cokes and vividly remember when the price raised to 6 cents. Merchants with vending machines had to invest money to change the mechanism to accept pennies. Thank you for this memory recall opportunity.
My pleasure Ernie. That was a fun trip.
Love Andy Griffith, thanks for sharing
My pleasure.
So happy you filmed the Andy Griffith museum. Two shows that I loved growing up were "The Andy Griffith Show" and "The Waltons." Both were entertaining yet wholesome. If you knew me in person you'd ask why the latter was important to me (since I have a mouth like a sailor - LOL) but I do love good wholesome entertainment. Quality people and quality values deserve to be lifted up in our lives, perhaps more so every day considering the atmosphere of the world that we live in. I wonder if Ron Howard gets over that way very often to make an appearance in the town? Thanks for taking us along on your journey you two. Safe travels!
Thanks Michael. We still watch the old reruns. Not sure about Ron Howard, but Thelma Lou (Betty Lynn) comes often and makes personal appearances.
Hi, I grew up in Mt. Airy and lived there 35 years before moving away....I go back now and again visiting family....Loved it growing up, all the good times...I've never been to the museum, but plan to soon! Thank you for sharing.
So glad we could share. Joan and I really enjoyed visiting your hometown. So friendly. Joan especially enjoyed sitting in rocking chair at Wally’s Filling Station, talking to a couple folks and hearing all thing Mt. Airy, Andy, Chang and Eng. Reminded me of Andy and Aunt Bee sitting on the porch. If you can, go to the museum. It’s a great presentation of Andy Griffith, the beloved TV show, plus you’ll see a few things of Mt. Airy past that may stir a few memories. Jerry...
what is the name of the campground that you are staying at? Thank you
We stayed at Mayberry Campground of course 😏 Nice spot, minutes from town.
We enjoyed our stay. Super nice folks.
Been there twice last Thanksgiving and Memorial Day this year. We stay at Mayberry Campground.
Hi Karen. We stayed in the same place. Nice folks.
This is my first video of yours I've seen and you both are ADORABLE! I try to take little trips like this when I can (museums, tourist traps, small town attractions, etc) and I love Andy Griffith too! So there's nothing I don't love about this video. I'll be checking in for more videos like this 🌄 HAPPY & SAFE TRAVELS ❤
Thanks so much Tricia and so glad you found our channel. Joan and I have so much fun bringing everyone along in our travels. Mt. Airy and all things Mayberry have been on our wish list for some time. And what a neat town with such friendly folks. There was more to see and do, we just ran out of time. Have a great visit.
I have relatives in Mt. Airy. I was always told Andy Griffith NEVER did anything for Mt. Airy after his success. Well, now you people can make a dime off him now that he's gone.
Can't believe you didn't go to the Snappy Lunch! Delicious fried pork sandwiches😋🐖
Just ran out of time.
Y'all should've come to Aunt Bea's and eat!!!! Yummy 😋
We should have Lora! We just ran out of time. Making a list of places to see and things to do on our next trip to Mt. Airy. Looking forward to Aunt Bea's.
@@iLoveRVlife Awesome! See you then! 😉
Wonderful video. Brought back good memories. I was fortunate to have visit there with my mother 4 months before she passed away in 2016. She and I really enjoyed it. Even got to your town in the police car.
Thanks so much. What a great story Dennis. I know you’ll always have found memories of that special time with your mother.
I'm at Mayberry campground now and used to live in Mount Airy. Glad you enjoyed your stay here.
Hi Diane. Mayberry Campground and the town, both offered a great experience.
Now that seemed like fun .... Otis is the best ;-)
So much fun! We like Otis too.
Enjoyed the tour thanks brings back lots of memories from a more laid back time.
Yes it does Norm. Fun place and super nice folks. Everyone made you feel at home.

Done, waiting on the handshake. Thanks.
Wish I had known, youre only an hour from me, would've loved to meet you guys
Me too. Next time we'll give a heads up when we return.
Definitely on my bucket list! Beautiful presentation of the area. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks so much.
We just camped next to some folks who recommended the Mayberry Campground and of course a visit to Mt Airy! (How was the CG??). Loved the Andy Griffith show, so it looks like we have a stop to add to our list!
It was a nice. No trees, but nice gravel and grassy area around Campers. Try to get space 5. One of the better pull throughs.
We camped there this fall, for Thanksgiving. Our grandchildren live nearby and enjoyed the playground and pond. Nice laundry facilities.
I live in mount airy and never been to that museum yet lol
Mike you have to go!!! Fun place. Expected Andy, Barney and the gang to step out of the corner any minute.
How lucky am I to live in Mt. Airy!
Yes you are Marvin!
You would be luckier if you lived in Laurel Fork! God’s country! I’ll take the colder winter to have cooler summer.
@@davidhorne2326 My summer is a lot cooler. I moved here from Georgia last year. I do agree that Carroll County is really nice.
Too Cool, I didn’t know that. I like the show
Thanks Tim.
Wow really close to me
People over look the fact thst we arr home to Donna Fargo, and the largest open faced granite quarry in the world. Andy left Mt.Airy in 1957 never to return. My uncle Emmitt had the largest known Andy Griffith moribelium collection to exist and at his passing it was donated to the museum. The ONLY thing on the show that actually existed in town was Snappy Lunch. Damn fine food!
I didn’t know that about Donna. Your Uncle Emmet made an incredible contribution to Mt. Airy and for all of us who enjoy Andy and the gang. I spoke to several about the quarry. You can definitely see the impact on the architecture for many of the buildings downtown.
I loved going here the people are so friendly
They are. Joan love sitting sitting at Walleys.
Great to have you visit! Try dropping by during the autumn leaves festival or during a car show weekend! It can be a little crowded but still great to see everything! Still so glad to see people are dropping by! Also try swinging by a place called Virginia Carolina Enterprise, they have great produce and candies inside as well as plants during summer and pumpkins during the fall!
Thanks Seth. We’re making our list for the return trip.
We were there a couple of years ago. The museum was not there. I did get my hair cut at "Floyd's City Barber Shop". I think his name was Russell Hiatt. He was very nice. He told us a few stories about Andy. Was his shop still there?
It was, but closed for the day. Fun place. Hope you get a chance to go back.
I live in Mt.Airy! Glad you came! It's boring here for most people who live here. It's a small city, but it's a great place to live though. When I get back from a big city, I am glad to be back home here in Mt. Airy!
Smaller cities have their benefits, I’ve lived in 9 million plus and 30,000 county wide. Will take the smaller city any day. We had a great visit and everyone was so nice.
I remember the big glass bottles of coke for 25 cents .. they had little bottles too but don't remember the price of them because I always bought the big one. New to your channel, the campground one popped up in my feed. Really enjoyed it!
Thanks a bunch. Great to hear you found our channel.
If you get to Indiana you need to check out the Mayberry cafe in Danville Indiana.
Definitely. On the list.
Enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing .
Thanks a bunch. Our pleasure.
We enjoy your videos, thanks for all the interesting sights.
Thanks so much. Great to hear you’re enjoying the channel.
So enjoyable to watch this video. Thank you.
Thanks so much Lynn.
I think I might have passed them on my motorcycle
May be. I’ll be on the lookout for a wave next time.
Did you know that Betty Lynn lives in Mount Airy? She does.
I heard that she comes to some of the celebrations. That’s awesome.
Wow how funny this pops up on my timeline to watch. I live in mt airy
We had a fantastic time in your hometown. All things Mayberry plus Yadkin County wine county. Too much fun!
Yea there are interesting things to do and see but for people that live here don’t really pay attention to it which is sad but I’m sure that’s how it is every town you go to. We went to Wilmington beach a year ago we loved the sights and everything there
Wilmington is on our near term list. I thought something similar about my home town. I travel around and share, but what about my backyard? This spring I fixed that. Check out a few of these from my little town ruclips.net/video/VI0Rb_AJicQ/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/PEXlEr6O-Us/видео.html and ruclips.net/video/yRwzS2bi2j4/видео.html

Thanks for sharing everything of Andy Griffith in so detail...we too his great fans...Museum are great places and to maintain them to save history is so great and so important..
Thanks so much. Glad we could share. It was a fun visit.
👍
Thanks
Thank you for sharing this tour with us. Many of us grew up on Andy and really miss those days.
We do too! Fun visit. And such a nice place.
One of my all time favorite shows! Thank you for sharing Mr. Jerry 👍
Ours too. My pleasure Mark.
How fun! I live about an hour away and have never been, WHAT! I know, but I’m going now! You pointed out some really interesting things . I loved watching Andy Griffith @ 5:30 also. Did you enjoy the Camp Ground? I did want to see the little trinkets that Joan chose....🧐😁 Thanks so much for sharing... this was fun!
You have to go! Fun little town. The trinkets were all grand kid stuff. Joan has to spoil the babies. We always pick something up from our travels that represents the places we visit.
Great little town, with so much fun going on all the time. We're just an hour and a half away from this very famous town. Great video Jerry and Joan! Thanks for sharing. Be blessed Jerry and Joan!
Thanks Todd. Fun place.
We just happened to find the town a few years ago. Unfortunately the museum was not there yet. However we did get a ride in one of the police cars. My husband got a haircut from the person that Floyd’s Character was written after.
How fun. Mt. Airy is such a neat town. Joan and I had a great visit.
My wife and I went there a few years ago ate at the Snappy Lunch and seen Floyd (the original barber) he cut a lock of her hair she keeps in a scrapbook, we had a lot of fun there plus walked in the shops downtown. Went in the old courthouse they had it set up like the one in the show.
What a great memory J. This stop has been on our list for sometime. We really enjoyed our visit.
