The 98 action has a three locking lug system ..two front lugs which lock up at 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock elliptically..third a safety lug .. though the 98 is controlled feed at long range shooting with standard issue ammunition the characteristic of the rifles can shoot high low... Unless the bolt lugs are polished and bedded prescely, this is still the issue even if you were to.have the rifle barrel bedded on say resin ... Rear single locking lug on the number 1 and 4 rifles did not have this problem with standard issue ammo and a SMLE is possibly the fastest B/A system ever .....what I will say about the 98 action is that it's possibly one of the strongest actions ever designed...

You don't have to remove the stripper clip. Mr mauser was a genius and all you have to do after stripping the rounds into the rifle is push the bolt forward

The german infantry doctrine back then was build around the MG. Mass produced semis would've been nice, but they weren't necessary.
depends on the situation and the conditions the Enfield is still used today in some areas where other rifles would fail much more reliably. and semi auto is only more desirable in specific situations, not all situations. you don't wanna be superheating up the barrel in -70 degrees , it will shatter.

I live in Germany and recently saw a Mauser in my grandpas basement after he died a few months ago. She’s a real beauty although she is a bit rusty. Definitely have to clean her up. Took me at least 20 minutes to get the action moving

Germans are truly the best engineers around, especially when it came to their weaponry during the second world war. They had the first "jet" (the Me 262) the V-2 rocket, the strongest tiger tanks etc. They really gave us Americans and our allies hell.
My step dad had one of these that was actually used in ww2. It was manufactured in 1938 and had a swastika stamped into the bolt. He goes and cuts half the stock off from around the barrel and done some other things to it. I'm my opinion he completely ruined that rifle...

That is specifically a Mauser K98k due to the fact it uses waffen code BYF which is the factory code for the Mauser Oberndorf plant. For this Karabiner 98k it was made in 1942, before the German industrial giant made full swing in 1943 and 44. Then it was bombed to oblivion and due to lack of raw materials and mass supply chain breakdown production massively decreased in 1945, leading to the Kriegsmodell Kar98k. A very crude implement, but precise where need be. Lots of stampings and unfinished forgings, much like the late Karabiner 43.
Because the thickness of the rifle's reciver is big enough to hold around 5 cartridges in an internal magazine. And 5 cartridges is a good round number to make logistics easy. But not every bolt action rifle of the time held only five. Some rifles held six rounds, others held three or four, some held eight or nine, and others held ten... It just depended.
German Mauser bolts run like they're on greased glass. Flawless. 🤠
