I fed the magpies near my house a couple of times years ago. Never been swooped since. Make friends with them and they'll leave you alone and pick on someone else. lol. Birds have great memories.
I love the fact that they attacked more for trying to take the piss out of them with the fake Magpie-3000. It was obvious they weren't going to fall for that.
You should have tried putting the bouncy eyes facing the back or facing the magpie. I've experienced when you look at the magpie it tries to fly around and swoop you from behind.
Cool video my experiences in South Australia Victoria and NSW where that most swoopes have been impactless the few exceptions where harmless claw strikes on the back of the helmet no need for additional protection or defence. The Magpies in Queensland on the other hand are in a different league tending to go for the ears which hurts. One defence solution is to strap long cable ties to the sides of the helmet so they will obstruct the flight path to the ears. Eyes on the back of helmet also seemed to make no difference.
When I'm walking my dog they prefer to swoop him over myself, I generally will walk right under trees and next to fences etc and that seems to help stop me getting swooped, I dont give them a clear shot. If I have the dog lead in my hand and swing it around above my head like a helicopter I've found they don't bother swooping me, sometimes I've faced them when they have come at me and used the dog lead or bag and swing that at them while screaming and it scares them away
Madpie really had me laughing, you made him so mad at you, not really surprising given it was based on magpie.. how about doing a bird of prey - say a Falcon... or a Wedgie, although that'll look pretty darn funny riding down the street on your head. Thanks for the video. I have a magpie that simply hates me with a passion and we torment each other regularly.. him swooping and me waving frantically like a madman.
@@electrosync there was a magpie North West of Sydney that was so aggressive that the council was left with no choice but to terminate it. Drew blood from many including me.
Hey there. I’m glad I find Your channel. I really love your 3D printing innovative ideas. I’m actually planning to get into the 3D printing scene, (I know it’s not any new thing 3D printing is actually been for sometime ) I’m actually tbh more interested in 3D printing props and perhaps sell them on the internet to maybe earn.a thing or two. Hopefully, more than that just so I can supplement a bit of income( I have heard 3D printing isn’t very profitable so that’s why I blurted out “earn a thing or two” I actually have no ideas about the income prospect) Anyway. I have some questions I believe You can assist me with them as I’m a total newbie Can I design 3D prints on softwares like vectary or tinkercad Are there any limitations with these softwares Would I need to purchase an expensive software How profitable is it selling 3D prints I hope to hear from You soon Kind regards
You can definitely design 3D designs on 3D design software. Tinkercad is a great place to start. I don’t personally sell prints, but plenty of people do it successfully and for a profit - it’s all about finding a niche product and producing great products. Good luck!
My preferred defence against magpies is to live in Tasmania where, for reasons unknown, very few magpies attack. In my 60 years + of life I have never once been bother by a magpie even though there a many around my neighbourhood. I have been swooped by plovers.
if you feed them and talk to them (!) they get to know you and won't swoop, even in peak season ... of course this doesn't apply to the ones down the road and round the corner :(
Thanks for stopping by. Biiiiggg project for my next vid!
I'd rather look dorky than be hit by a magpie
Me too!
Why didn't you put the eyes on the back of the helmet?
I just uploaded a new video where I fixed that!
The most obvious thing is you should have faced the eyes and madpie 3000 backwards to confront the bird head on as it swooped.
Yes! Keep your eyes out for these improvements and more in Part 2. Coming this Spring!
Part 2???? Been a year
I fed the magpies near my house a couple of times years ago. Never been swooped since.

Try the eyes looking back at the magpie...
Don’t analyse my dodgy backyard experiment too closely!

They outsmarted me!
amazing!! my defence is to never leave the house in spring!!
Also a great defence!
That quick throw-away joke @1:02 made me snicker.
I was on the fence, as always, but sir.. I'll leave you like and a nice comment.
The alpha magpie in my neighborhood can clap its beak together louder than I can click. It works well clearing the small fry away

I just tried this in the follow up video to this one with mixed results. Check it out!
I can't believe he had them facing forward total fail before he even got swooped. Magpies swoop you from behind.
We need to import Australian magpies to Florida.

This must have been a nasty NSW magpie:

Amazing video! You deserve more subscribers.
The camera work is such high quality! How were you able to capture the magpies flying away after the attack with such precision?? Great work!!
Thanks! But it is editing trickery! I used a 360 degree camera mounted to the bike.

Your dog lead method sounds interesting!

A bird of prey would be great! The Magpies have stopped swooping for this season where I am. Maybe a Part 2 next year?!
magpies are unstoppable
Apparently!

Can I design 3D prints on softwares like vectary or tinkercad
Are there any limitations with these softwares

laughed so hard at those ideas. +1 sub

Very interesting! Spring holidays in Tassie!
I wonder if the magpie treated you worse at the end, because it was annoyed the same human kept coming back.
What about attaching an electric fly swatter to the top of it? Make sure to use brand new batteries!!!
Ahh, the nearest thing to a taser that you can buy in Australia!
I just feed my local maggies and we are all sweet. Madpie 3000 was just waving a red flag at a bull, what were you thinking.
if you feed them and talk to them (!) they get to know you and won't swoop, even in peak season ... of course this doesn't apply to the ones down the road and round the corner :(
What if you mounted a bird feeder on your helmet?
Genius! I’ll consider this for the 2021 video installment!
i never ride a bike if Walking An Umbrella and sunglasses
Always sunglasses!
Has anyone ever tried metal spikes on a helmet? I'm pretty sure that would finally end the Magpie problem for everyone!
@ ༒☬༒ ᴀᴛʜᴇɴᴀ ༒☬༒ I had a skewed vision of the average Australian being like Crocodile Dundee or even the Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin.
Why the hell didn't you mount the magpie backwards ! Duh
Thanks for the tip! I’ll try that out in my follow up video!
Literally “dead” center of town. He’s in a graveyard 1:02
They have fences around there because people are dying to get in there!
That is a primary school joke in a australia. I assume it is the same in any Anglo country.
The best defense I've found is to be an air rifle.
Ya a tennis racket.
A .22 caliber air rifle works great.
I’m Australian it herts
Whats reallt affective is giving them the middle finger behind my head when riding... therefore literally giving the bird the bird...
I'm shocked that Australian people would tolerate this. They seem among the least animal-fearing of any humans.
@ ༒☬༒ ᴀᴛʜᴇɴᴀ ༒☬༒ I also think that an animal that aggressively attacks human beings should be removed by natural selection.
WHY DON'T YOU JUST MAKE BETTER VIDS!!!
3d Print an air rifle lol
