People often ask why he never created another socially conscious album when in reality, he SAID IT ALL in this album...
exactly. I've said exactly that in my album at 50 feature www.stevepafford.com/whatsgoingon50/
Uhh he made in our lifetime ? Y’all not real fans though lol
@@AlexAtuh What are you even talking about? I got the In Our Lifetime album. He was basically talking about nuclear war in one track. I meant for an ENTIRE ALBUM. I call IOL more of an introspective album. But I won't deny he did SOME socially conscious work on it. I meant FULL album, not songs. I'll break it down:
1.) Praise - funky song about God and love
2.) Life Is for Learning - basically breaks down what makes an artist
3.) Love Party - I can argue that there's a social message in it. Like "let's love one another before the world ends"
4.) Funk Me - not a social song
5.) Far Cry - the infamous unfinished track
6.) Love Me Now or Love Me Later - a personal song about good vs. evil
7.) Heavy Love Affair - song about Janis
8.) In Our Lifetime - funky song that mentions Armageddon
9.) Nuclear Juice - instrumental but the title indicates he was thinking about the potential nuclear war
Lol "not a real fan"? Please. 😂
Fucking nailed it.............................................this makes a huge statement. Touche'.
"Mercy, mercy, me!!! Things aint what they used to be!!!"- Things weren't the same in 1971 when Marvin composed this & believe me when I say things aren't what they used to be pre 2020, pre pandemic- a year later, and all of our lives collectively has changed- not exactly for the better (families have lost loved ones, people are struggling to pay their bills, put food on the table- you name it)!!! Times change- or as some people believe, nothing changes, EVER!!!
Born in 95, heard my grandmother playing this and I was hooked as a kid. She's no longer on this earth, but she's with me, especially when this plays.
much love, trust me she is still with you ❤💪🏾🙏🏾
@@joshuaowens5915 much love to you as well. Much appreciated.
Your grandmother would be proud of you
God bless your grandmother... she is with you ❤ you will see her again one day❤
Lucky guy, I cant say same of my grandma, basically i didnt know her. God bless.
Been listening to this for 50 years and if I lived another 50 years I'd still be listening. Mercy, Mercy Me.
One of my all time favorite song of 1971🎵🎶🎧🎤
I love the horns and listen to the percussion top class
Considering the album has been out 52 years, I find this hard to believe.
I was born 2 months after he passed away. A fan of Marvin since the early 90s when I first heard this song.
god bless you another 50 sir.
Marvin was conscious about the plant 🌎 before it was a trend to think about environmental issues. The man was ahead of his time!! Rest in peace Legend 🙏🏿 ❤
That he was, head of his time ❤😂🎉😢😮😅
"Radiation In the Ground & In the Skies" is the sure truth & and only exacerbated by today's technology... WAKE UP ppl!!!!
16 year old me was overwhelmed by the, love, beauty and grace of this music. At 40 the love remains.
I discovered his music at 15 last year, marvin gaye is my favorite now

" GOD is writing this album" ...rip to one of the greatest Mr. Marvin Gaye ❤
This shit is just straight up soul food. Must be why they call it soul...
It's soul food and health food at the same time.
Ok....lol
@@monilaninetynine3811 soul food is pretty damn unhealthy
@@r.i.petika829: It doesn’t have to be.
It requires the listener to have a soul in the first place
Still listening and always at 59 years old...Love you Marvin spend many years listening to ur 🎶
Wow, I'm 14, and taking a freshman dance class. I fell in love with the song because we had to dance to it.
@@FriendlyNeighborhoodFreak I remember when it came out. Elton John also had some hits in 71, Friends album. The 🎵🎶.was our best friend in 71, & still is in 2022.
There's so many Great songs from all these talented people on Motown..L.A. Radio.in 1971 was AWESOME 👍
93 KHJ! Lol, in 1966, We lived in Pasadena Calif. We were considered poor. But I didn't know that. I could pretty much walk wherever I wanted @ 5 yrs. We lived two streets below Mountain ave. (The homes there are Still beautiful) Pretty well off I'd say. Anyhow Summertime was definitely the most joyous! Schools out TEACHER! lol. Fruit trees in most every yard, peaches, plums..... I don't know what I was thinking. But we spun that Chicago song, 25 or 6 to 4,. Over & over on our little record player. My friend's mother was the epitome of kind, & tolerated a 5 yr old singing.....🤔 Ethel Becker, you were a fine woman. Thank you.
Mom, I don't know how you did it. 11 kids. You handled yourself with Grace.
Rip 💕 you both forever. 🙏💪✌️🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵
Whoa, oh, mercy mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be, no no
Where did all the blue skies go?
Poison is the wind that blows from the North and South and East
Whoa mercy, mercy me
Oh, things ain't what they used to be, no no
Oil wasted on the oceans and upon our seas, fish full of mercury
Oh, oh, oh mercy, mercy me
Oh things ain't what they used to be, no no
Radiation underground and in the sky
Animals and birds who live nearby are dying
Oh mercy, mercy me
Oh things ain't what they used to be
What about this overcrowded land
How much more abuse from man can she stand?
Oooh, oooh, oh no no, na, na na, na
My sweet Lord, na, na, na
My, my Lord, my sweet Lord
Breathe
The first time I heard this album and this song came on, it moved me to a few tears....for him to feel this way and write it in '71, it is more relevant than ever
Just back from Vietnam when it came out. This was and still is a go to album for me
Grew up listening to Marvin Gaye as my mom cleaned the house on a Saturday morning playing music on the stereo. His music was ahead of its time and so relevant today.
You don't even need a visualizer for this song. The music is so lively that just closing your eyes and listening is a visual experience.
Marvin was out here caring about the environment decades before it was cool. His most enduring song because planet Earth is a greater topic/cause than anything...if she dies, we all die.
But it won’t - no matter what the elites have planned.
2024 and the message of this song still resonates, truly sad and beautiful at the same time
What's Going On really one of the greatest records in music history. Perfect sound, arrangement, vocals and lyrics.
Happy 85th birthday Marvin Gaye
Will forever be timeless.
One of the greatest albums ever recorded. Marvin left us much too soon as we all know. Timeless music! I’ll listen until I pass. RIP Marvin Gaye. ❤

Absolutely--God was on his shoulder
Sou Brasileiro. Conheço toda a história de Marvin, incluindo os problemas com o pai e sobre a morte dele em 1 de abril de 1984 quando o pai dele o matou. Tenho 44 anos e sempre ouvi Marvin Gaye. A tradução desta musica é linda.
🇧🇷🎵❤️
🙏🏾
Post abençoado.
but he fell in love with a minor which is pretty weird
Marvin Gaye’s QUITE PROPHETIC R&B composition (dating back to 1971) is a sad requiem to this ever so fragile blue planet 🌎in desperate need of all the care in the world‼️ 💙🎶💙
Thank you and rest in peace, Marvin Pentz Gaye (April 2, 1939 - April 1, 1984)… 🌹
My brain cells are happy❤️🕺
This is still a hit. May the 4th be with you 2024. Who’s still here?
Yes it is 🙂
😂😂 yes sir...deep song.
Marvin was so ahead of his time who was thinking about climate change back in the 70s like that!
Thank you Marvin for this song. It is so relevant today.

I ❤ this song. About every night, I dreamed that the guy in this video really was Me 100%.
I would nominate this song to be performed by "Playing for Change"
You need to know that I suffer and go through daily afflictions that you are not aware, I am right there with you in your suffering. Stay encouraged.
Beautiful song that is loaded with things the world needs to adhere too.

The best and deepest way ever put. Thank you for sharing this insight.
Amazingly insightful.
this song is so good it makes me cry
this song takes me back to when I was like 4 for some reason
It's the most incredible album I ever heard, starting with, " hey, hey, what's happening brother"
AcaDec really put me on the good stuff this year. Love this song so much
I still feel the same deep empty ache in my chest as I ever have when listening to this song. Marvin was a truth teller...
Another one gone too soon ❤
Facts 😓
One of the greatest to ever do it.
Classic Period, and makes me think of the way the world is now and how horrible and wicked the world is, seems like this song was made more so for now, that's just how I feel though, I'm 44 and I was listed to him in my 20's
This guys were on another level
Marvin helped me realize ,black people we have to work .....in order to make ends meets no if or buts about it 💯
Yep, and we have to work twice as hard to get half of what they have.
we need reparations! that's what we need. we need a political class dedicated to making that occur. No tangibles, no vote!
@@ElysianFeilds93 a good family unit is important. Good culture.
@@dlegend8667 That is wrong and I'd like to live long enough to see it change. 😔
same here and I’m 1% North African so 👀
Now 2023 , miss you Marvin Gaye 💕💕💕💕
Truly makes me wanna holler .....
Holler away sir, I’ll join in
I usually cry when I hear this song - and did this time.... ❤️
Lyrics are so true and the evidence of our polluted planet shows it very clearly. Best of Marvin in my view. TIMELESS 😊
❤Marvin Gaye rip we all love you 🙏
Never ever gets old. To me he is relevant every time I listen to him
The best album ever made. The best album that ever will be made.
Legendary shit 👑
HEAVENLY SONG!
The parallels between this and step in the name of love are numerous and I love that
I love Marvin Gaye's music 🎶 🎶🎶❤
When I was a kid, I used to be a little frightened whenever this song came on. I got it into my head that the ending vocals were sung by ghosts! 👻 Now I know it was probably a melotron set to the vocal setting. And I really dig Jamerson’s lines on this!
Same...I interpreted it as the Earth crying out as a kid and it used to really frighten me. As a man, it still has a haunting refrain to it
It's not Jamerson on Mercy Mercy Me, it's actually Babbitt doing a hell of a job emulating Jamersons Style
Funny I had that with "don't worry if there is hell below we are all gonna go" that scream at the end of the intro really got to me. I was four or five when I last heard it before I dared playing it myself when I was around 16 or so.
In 2023 and we've not heeded this warning. Marvin was sent to us for a short time. Through gis music he delivered a message to us. Sadly, the people in charge would rsther have HATE, GREED and INDIVISUALISM over PEACE.
Individualism has infected this country like a cancer. Well stated.
Just another one of hes many great songs i love all of them ❤❤❤❤
Listen to the words and then look around .
