I saw EDGES when I was 19 or 20. This song stuck with me. It's still in my head. It was in my head when my mom's health slowly and then less slowly deteriorated. She is gone from the earth now and I miss her. I wish she would have held on.
I onnce knew a woman who tried to keep going Who made more of life than what she had been dealt A woman who raised a city of children Who never got back or got asked how she felt I once knew a woman who had a laugh just like thunder And hands that can wipe away anyone’s tears A women’s whose life wasn’t measured by time Who stayed the same age despite passing years So look bright, so look strong Act the unbeatable part you once played So hold tight, so hold on Hold fast to the delicate future you made Cause as I’m getting older I’m finding the holes I never wanted to see So hold on, hold fast, hold tighter for me I once knew a woman who would take me to breakfast Who taught me that I could mix ketchup with eggs I once knew a woman who saw all my moments Who taught me to sing and to stand on both legs I once knew a woman not scared to be challenged Embracing all chances although she could fail And when she fell down she would always get up I wasn’t afraid, I knew she’d prevail So look bright, so look strong Act the unbeatable part you once played So hold tight, so hold on Hold fast to the delicate future you made Cause as I’m getting older I’m finding the holes I never wanted to see So hold on, hold fast, hold tighter for me I don’t have to leave I can stay by your side What can I do so you’re able to see That I won’t ever try without you there to catch me So please be the woman I need you to be. Don’t cry, and act strong Be the unbeatable part you once played So just try and hold on Everything’s fine mom, you cant be afraid So hold on, hold fast, hold tighter for me
I think he did a wonderful job, he is just changing tactics. It is fine to have mixed emotions, especially in this song listen to the lyrics not just the music. I worked on this song with Benj and Justin, and Steven is doing exactly what they wanted of this song.
I think it's always hard to hear an original version and then the new version. one always likes the first version better, but for me (I've only heard the new version), I think the lyrics are genius. I'm sure they are both great, and whichever one you hear first sticks with you.
i wonder why these lyrics are different than the ones that the guy sings on the album... I like these lyrics better though, also these are the ones in sheet music i have.
+Cody Ward Pasek and Paul did a huge revision of the show it's possible this was one of those changes. Also, if I'm not mistaken some of the songs in Edges can have altered lyrics to suite the actors/directors.

I onnce knew a woman who tried to keep going
Who made more of life than what she had been dealt
A woman who raised a city of children
Who never got back or got asked how she felt
I once knew a woman who had a laugh just like thunder
And hands that can wipe away anyone’s tears
A women’s whose life wasn’t measured by time
Who stayed the same age despite passing years
So look bright, so look strong
Act the unbeatable part you once played
So hold tight, so hold on
Hold fast to the delicate future you made
Cause as I’m getting older
I’m finding the holes
I never wanted to see
So hold on, hold fast, hold tighter for me
I once knew a woman who would take me to breakfast
Who taught me that I could mix ketchup with eggs
I once knew a woman who saw all my moments
Who taught me to sing and to stand on both legs
I once knew a woman not scared to be challenged
Embracing all chances although she could fail
And when she fell down she would always get up
I wasn’t afraid, I knew she’d prevail
So look bright, so look strong
Act the unbeatable part you once played
So hold tight, so hold on
Hold fast to the delicate future you made
Cause as I’m getting older
I’m finding the holes
I never wanted to see
So hold on, hold fast, hold tighter for me
I don’t have to leave I can stay by your side
What can I do so you’re able to see
That I won’t ever try without you there to catch me
So please be the woman I need you to be.
Don’t cry, and act strong
Be the unbeatable part you once played
So just try and hold on
Everything’s fine mom, you cant be afraid
So hold on, hold fast, hold tighter for me
