I thought I would share with you some info on the Eisenhower coin you were using over on Courtney’s channel on Sunday:
The Eisenhower dollar was minted only for a few years, from 1971 to 1978. The coin you have, with the dual dates “1776-1976,” is the Bicentennial commemorative edition. Three U.S. coins - 25¢, 50¢, and one dollar - were issued with the dual dates and were minted in either 1975 or 1976. Interestingly, none of these denominations were ever produced with a 1975 date.
On the front of the coin, in case you’re not familiar, is Dwight D. Eisenhower (1890-1969), affectionately known as “Ike,” who was the 34th U.S. president serving from 1953 to 1961. On the reverse is the Liberty Bell (a symbol of American independence) superimposed over the moon (a tribute to the Apollo missions and the men who walked on the moon a few years before).
The year 1976 was the “Bicentennial,” the 200th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Ask any American old enough to remember 1976 and they will tell you it was a HUGE deal here. Products, anything you can imagine, were sold with bicentennial or “Spirit of ‘76” labeling; and celebration events were held from coast to coast for well over a year, with the biggest of those celebrations on our nation’s birthday, July 4, 1976.
You asked if the coin contains silver. Likely not. Fifteen million sets of the three “1776-1976” coins (so, 45 million coins total) were struck in 40% silver clad and a few of those have made their way into circulation, but the coins minted for circulation are comprised of 91.67% copper and 8.33% nickel.
There you have it - WAY more than you ever wanted to know about your Ike dollar!

His outlook on life and his optimism has helped me get through a very rough time separating from an abusive relationship.
