For design students: If you follow the ideas of Mr. Bass, you should also research Bucky Fuller and Mr. John Belt of SUNY Oswego. Great minds for designers to pick
This is exactly what I desire in my heart's deepest to do: Create, create things that are BEAUTIFUL and USEFUL to humanity. As a matter of fact, I'm a minimalist and in my life I've incorporated only things that are essential, beautiful and give me joy. I've adorned my walls with my own works of art. Since we are on the subject about making money, I share this quote with you: "A fortune awaits men, women and children who invent even the simplest thing that serves humanity well." May your days on earth be positive, productive and rewarding.
it's basically animation, but many the title sequences Bass created did use computers to some extent. That was a new field at the time, with guys like John Whitney and William Fetter coming up with some cool new gizmos to make it happen. Along with the famous title sequences, Bass also designed quite a few iconic company logos. Good stuff.
This is the true art passionate answer to the question of money versus quality . İ learned something here that changed me afterwards . Thanks for the upload ..
They did. But he's saying it doesn't matter whether they came to him for beautiful work or passable work or mediocre work. He's going to do everything he can to create beautiful work regardless, because it's important to him personally.
He said: "I want to make beautiful things, as against ugly things, even if nobody cares [...] but I think it is important for us not to be under the illusion that anybody else cares." It is the obligation of the designer to fulfill what the client asks for. If he is unwilling or unable to do so, then he does not get paid, and the client doesn't get the design.
He said the phrase that is GONE in today’s working perspective - ‘ & I’m willing to pay for that’ - he says. NO ONE has that kind of courage & commitment today in their art or craft. They’re all cowards who focus on their 401 K & health benefits with a view to Sat & Sunday in front of a Netflix show &. Beer. BORING!!!
Hi! Have you thought about the Intellitus Cash System (do a google search)? Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my work buddy made a ton of money.
Couldn't agree more, Quality should always be valued more than quantity.
Thank God! In the instantaneous world, I want to work for a boss like this.

I feel sorry for the 3 project managers that stumbled on this video and gave it a thumb down.
They were actually some millenial Google or Microsoft UX/UI/Graphic Designers

😂 Thanks for your comments. I am minimalist too. Design has changed but you don't have to. Be happy and be you.
This is the essence of integrity

Yo, have you heard of this plan called the Intellitus Cash System? (look for it on google). My sister says it makes people plenty of cold hard cash.
How did he make his movie intros without computers?
paper.
Paper dummy
But didn't clients come to Saul Bass for his beautiful work?
They did. But he's saying it doesn't matter whether they came to him for beautiful work or passable work or mediocre work. He's going to do everything he can to create beautiful work regardless, because it's important to him personally.
He says BEAUTY, not quality
This was Steve Jobs' philosophy.
if you don't care what the client thinks, then you are doing art, not design.
True. Design is an Art. Aesthetics is the common denominator.
what if clients do not want the beautiful thing you have made?
He said: "I want to make beautiful things, as against ugly things, even if nobody cares [...] but I think it is important for us not to be under the illusion that anybody else cares."

:)
One client didn't liked this.

No one? I do! Quality is number ONE, always.
I can hardly hear what he says over how he looks.
