1969 a 12 year old kid looking for a "rock" concert naively scored tickets for a show of "nobody he had heard of" artists Bo Diddly, John Lee Hooker and Charlie Musselwhite. On that night Elmo Watt was born when Charlie stepped on stage and ignited a flame in my soul.
Yu guys, Charlie Musselwhite is a national treasure, a worldwide gem. He's been called our Elder Statesman of the Blues. I always think back to a show in Portland at a place called Springer's in 1969, Tim Kaihatsu on guitar. Tim was warming up his scales and Charlie walked out and lifted his dark glasses and smiled. I knew right then we were in for a treat. Thank you Charlie for all these many years of great music. You're the real thing, and not all of 'em are. I mean by that he stands shoulder to shoulder with Muddy, Wolf, Little Walter, Otis Rush and Otis Spann. I didn't even need to say that. You guys already knew it. And for standing next to this great blues man, Thank you Henrietta!
used to catch him in Sebastopol and around the so co area for many years..when i lived there...nor cal was always packed full of the great bluesmen at the local spots! ahh the good times ..let em roll*
@@johnfreitas3019 nice! So many good musicians came through cotati ..one night Michael Bloomfield walked into a small bar I was at..sat down at the piano and proceeded to entertain us..what a thrill! 😎🎶🎹
I forget which of his albums I bought first; but it changed me. Now LOTS of albums and about $1000 worth of Lee Oskar's later I still can't play well--But I had fun tryin. He didn't just give me harmonica he gave me the Blues, what a gift to a 70's rocker. I enjoy the other great harp players too -but Charlie? I love Charlie
Sometimes I hear him using an A harp-3rd position. But I still feel stymied! Charley is better every year on his vocals. Think I got it-3rd position-he really has mastered the scale at the bottom end. Lovely!

Musselwhite's version of L.Walter's "Just a Feelin" sounds more like "just an estimation" to me. I'm a harp player going back many decades when harp players were trying to sound like Paul Butterfield. Musselwhite's 'processed' amplification destroys the upper register and jacks up the bass response, delivering a 'beefy' and full tone. BUT, it ain't Little Walter's by a mile. Charlie has his own sound, which is curiously strange by comparison to many modern players. Kim Wilson has TWICE the power and three times the variety for my money. Rod Piazza has been playing as many years as Charlie. This ain't "Blues with a Feeling" or "Just a Feelin" by any stretch of the imagination. Turn off the mic signal processing Charlie. Listen to Kim Wilson, Jason Ritchie, Mark Ford and many others as their delivery is clean NOT BASS WRAPPED!
Gurian boy apparently you haven’t heard to many harp players, & stand shoulder to shoulder with muddy, little Walter would have shot you for saying that , I got to see little Walter twice & talk to him 😎
Awsome blues Charley your solid Gold 😅😅😅
May be the best harp player all over the world. Simply the king. Blues feeling.
I got to play with Charlie in 1970 what memories 😎

Charlie you are my hero
Brilliant tasteful harp playing. Very cool how he plays the higher register notes with ease. Very difficult...
Spitzen klasse !!
I gotta be honest not a big fan of his voice but my god, I could listen to him play all day
Cripes!... Charlie, what you doin' pullin' extra notes out from under your wig-hat?
Amazing
There is no better Little Walter interpreter on this earth,,,,,,play Charlie play,,,,,

ThanQ.
Oright very nice welcome kindly
this guy is blessed with a black man's voice
Osama Bayyoumi Thats as dumb as saying Hendrix guitar playing was blessed as a white mans.
Can't agree his vocals are pure Chicago white boy
That's like saying Butterfield sounds black
@@lorengates6413 He come up outa Tennessee. Poor white boy same as black dude if his head is wrapped around the blues.
Charlie at his best...
Just a feeling
Great, as usual, one of my harmonica heroes. anyone know what kinda mic he uses?
A shure bullet I think.
He uses custom Blowsmeaway productions wood microphones. He has two of them. That one seems to be the second one he have.
cleanheadcole Yep, that's the one. I have one as well.
mark dirigible Give him enough money and he'll use yours!
@@Serkoharp 100% correct Greg Hueman @ Blowsmeaway productions builds Charlies mikes.
Tell it!
Just the BLUES
Open blues trio
I reckon Charlie could rest a harp up against the side of his head, pop his ears and still produce phenomenal tone!!
John Carroll I have been playing the harp for over 35yrs and get my head cut when ever i hear this man play, simply awesome & amazing!
💙💙🎶🎶🎶
GREAT WHİTE BLUESMAN!
Szuper !A legnagyobb !!!
Was that Little Charlie Baty on guitar?
The dude is okay...
His a Cool Cat...
is he strictly a lee oskar man or what? ive never paid attn.
Is that a low e harp-played in key of B?
Wow! J'ai accompagné ça avec grand plaisir. Pas souvent l'occasion de jouer avec l'harmo en Mi.
Thanks Jay
@ please english?
He starts with a low E harp and then switches to an A harp in 3rd position
For you harp nuts out these, Musslewhite is playing in 3rd position on an A harp.
That works, also, I got it with a Will Wilde special tuned Low E harp in Second position . Get some great high bends
See ?
