+1 for movement +1 for message +1 for location, and +1 for superb camerawork -1 for slightly stilted narration, but +1 for excellent writing +1 for le vrai esprit du parkour.
Love your flow! Living in a small remote town that lacks the usual urban structures of large cities, I can only practice parkour in nature, in a very dense nordic spruce forest. At 40 yo, I know my crazy stunts years are behind me, but the mindset you describe here is still very alive. Thanks for sharing this cool piece of movement philosophy!
Quite the coincidence that PKVisions posted this just now. I've recently been training in the woods a few times and it has been an awakening! Observations like the "90 degrees", how everything has simple geometric shapes in the city... Training in the woods you are forced to exercize caution or you might trip over a hidden root or stone - so you become more aware in general. But at the same time the actual surfaces are much softer than concrete. It's safer AND more effective training.
A friend of mine has Osgood Shlatter in both knee's, but he's still very active with training. he's actually the one with the most experience in my town, he has been practicing for over 10 years now. and he's a great teacher. I've learned a lot from him. so don't let Osgood Shlatter hold you back! just pay a little more time on upper body strenght and take it easy when it comes to drops, but there's nothing wrong with flow training :)
Wow! AMAZING Video! I really watch many parkour videos but this was clearly one of the best videos i´ve ever seen! Rafe.. You´re moving so clean!! Just amazing!
Yo since 2012 Parkour has been part of my life and going to Red rock Mtns out here in Las Vegas it was my favorite for parkour. Now i Understand ! Parkour is the Source
Visually yes I dislike shorts particularly for parkour videos, but the camera work, edition and the concept he talks about makes me ignore that and appreciate the stuff he talks about and the flow he does which looks good to me
Ok listen I've been climbing trees and running threw woods since I was 5 now I'm 12. Now I decided to start parkour about 4 weeks ago. I mixed my tree climbing skills with parkour skills and they go together great! Basically it is the same thing as parkour in nature!$$
Would love to see you post more natural parkour videos and training parkour in nature videos if possible . Since discovering your videos over a year ago I have become hooked on this type of exercise, find it very invigorating and primal to say the least! It seems to take you back to the early days of human evolution when you get going you truly get that feeling of being a wild human momentarily escaping the modern world. At 55 it is doing wonders for me, All I do Is just basic parkour without the fancy free running. Also loving climbing trees and rock formations and doing natural movement over rough terrain , rocks, logs fallen trees etc. thanks for sharing your inspiration and bringing this type of activity to my attention! Have mentioned this before but would love you to come and do one of your training workshops in Perth Western Australia one day. Eventually would love to get out into the Australian out back and do this. A lot of interesting places to explore here using this!
I just think it makes peoples legs look spindly. If you're going in the water, by all means, but that wasnt clear! I just think that the shapes cast are more beautiful when the figure is more visually balanced at top and bottom. I find the legs to look too light otherwise.
I wonder that too, if huge numbers flocked to my favorite spots to play this hard it would likely damage them. On the flip side how much more motivated to preserve natural spaces and expand them would a generation with this level of connection to them be. How can expect people to care about their environments if they never deeply connect with them? A balance has to be found, new parks may need to be developed if humans start moving like humans again.
Rafe Kelley you do some amazing stuff! really inspirational to one chained to desk! I'm hoping to go up to the Adirondacks this spring to do some similar type adventuring and was wondering what type of shoes/boots you wear for this. I have a pair of old military boots I've been using, but after watching your movements, I see that these boots are not going to cut the cheese. Thanks again!!
Sean Creamer I try to train barefoot as much as possible actually, you can see some of my barefoot stuff in my treerunner video over on my channel. I really don't like boots because the the elevated heal makes injuries more catastrophic and the ankle imobilization transfers stress up into the knee which has less inherent mobility and capacity to adapt. The shoes in the video are new balance minimus which are nice and flexibile fairly flat and have good wide toe base, and the Five Ten Daescents(the warhawk now) which have the best grip for natural environment training I have found, amazing on wet surfaces, but the toe box is too tight and to narrow for optimal mechanics. My favorite shoe for generla wear right now is the Lem Primals
Rafe Kelley thank you for the tip! I'll definitely be losing the boots this year and looking to spend more time on my bare feet. Dude, Treerunner was absolutely stunning, you really have a way with movement. I never really thought about the issues with the heel, ankle, and knee that you present here in relation to boots. I had figured that since the military used them, it must work (plus its snowy here in NY hah!). I'll have to research what the gains of an elevated heel are. Thanks for the data on shoes! I've only got these clunker bootsand a few pairs of skateboarding shoes. Strangely enough, I have an old pair of Tabi boots that someone had bought me when I practiced Kendo. Would those work as well? My worry is that separating the big toe could be damaging. not sure how though. Thanks again!!
Humans are not ment to live in citys. No metter if it is about doing parkour, raising a family, work or wathever. Humans belong to nature. Nice job. ...sorry for my bad english.
that wasn't parkour. parkour has no flips in it whatsoever because they aren't neccesary. the point of parkour is to get from one place to another in the fastest and most efficient way. flipping does not get you anywhere faster it's just a move to show off
Nature...No... Parkour has originated from urban environment .Moreover those flips found in freerun are more relating to the gym. You got skills but I think you have to stop and think a bit about the philosophy behind the moves. Check out David Belle and Sam Ultima for they're the past and the present of the movement.
If u check out david belle, u'll hear about georges hebert who wrote many books, including "the natural method", and who speak about native people being fit cause they still live and move in nature..... the word "parkour" itself is derived from "parcours hebert" which is a mix of different exercices (running, jumping, squatting,...) and which is used by armies around the world.
+1 for movement

This is probably the most beautiful thing I've seen on RUclips
That tree at the end is awesome!
The woods truly are the best, i recommend purposely going off trail at a hike just to parkour, one of the most epic and awesome experiences ive had
Music was perfect, and the parkour was astounding, you've got me motivated to run around in the bush.

-1 for shorts
+1 for beard
Very cool for sure, but I have to wonder what would happen to the environment if more and more people were to do this off trail in our natural places.
I wonder that too, if huge numbers flocked to my favorite spots to play this hard it would likely damage them. Good job! People, pls. stop destroying our nature/our 1 & only planet.
0_0 Teach me your ways.... *Kneels and bows head on floor*
cool
Nature is a source of parkour. Tarzan is a bred tracuer then...
Humans are not ment to live in citys. No metter if it is about doing parkour, raising a family, work or wathever. Humans belong to nature. Nice job. ...sorry for my bad english.
Apocalyptica - Fade to Black. 2:15''
and people say david belle invented parkour so very wrong
There were some jumps there my feet could not handle but my next video was an all barefoot video ruclips.net/video/Ni-shDOPQm0/видео.html
How are his ankles not broken?
Atleast someone can run away from bear

1:51 *___*
What does that mean? Are we talking safety or fashion bullshit?
This guy should really study up on Leave No Trace principles before getting too carried away.
Imagine chased by a pack of angry wolves? Yo...
-1 for shoes, why not barefoot?
Try to land a precisionjump barefoot on a sharp stone. ;) Heheh.
Training in nature v=KoBiYwwAub4
nitpicker
metallica fans nowhere? O.o....

What shoes is he wearing?
Looks like sandals but truly I don't think many realize that bare is best
