  • Hello All,
This video goes over my personal financial goals and reveals my current net worth as of December 2023. The purpose is to show that it is possible to save enough money to "retire" (more like work/do what you want when you want) early and provide insights into how much the average engineer makes with less than 5 years experience in the work place. Hopefully this helps those who want to retire early but don't know how or are looking into engineering but don't know if it's worth it.
Please keep in mind that this savings rate is EXTREME and NOT THE AVERAGE LIFESTYLE of an American. Also, everyone's expenses are different so please do not compare my savings with yours or think that you need $1M to retire early. This amount is what I calculated to be "enough" for me to live, in my opinion, a sustainable lifestyle.

The Trinity study concluded that a 4% withdrawal rate on 50/50 stock/bond mix was good for a period of 30 years, NOT in perpetuity. For periods over 30 years, the success rate drops quite a bit. In addition, your specific retirement date will dictate your SORR and hence the likelihood of success. You're better off shooting for a lower withdrawal rate (3-3.5%) if you intend for this money to last forever.

So, when you finally accumlate the 1M, how would you withdraw/distribute/liquidate your assets? I'm assuming the 401k wouldn't be touched until its penalty free. There is also the captial gains taxes on your brokerage investments. Does the 1M goal already account for this?

Almost forgot you existed. Did you get married, do you have a family now?
