We can assume Infinity went off grid due to the damage. We can also get crazier with theories and say that she could have jumped to the Ark out of pure coincidence; that could be a way to bring in the characters from HW to the FPS games. A thing to remember is the Infinity has been on the run for some time now and probably hasn't had a proper refit and repair, rearm during that and the crew could be fatigued from working constantly to keep her moving and potentially demoralized with Earth attacked again and the loss of UNSC HIGHCOM. And if the Infinity had no AI to help with the ships complex systems I would think the bridge crew would be especially overworked. these factors combined could explain how 4 Banished ships managed to sneak up on the Infinity.

They wipe out Infinity in a single cut-scene which is wierd considering how much time they spent building it up and show fuck all in the character department for pretty much everyone outside of Chief, Weapon, Echo 216 and Escharum (who btw was barely a side character in the books) this game has very shallow writing for the story and I wouldn't be surprised to see that they cut out large sections of the story to sell back to us later. :/ 343 has massively dropped the ball this time, and that's off the back of 5 too :( Don't even get me started on the Endless, 343's answer to the Flood when all we wanted was the parasite to make a comeback.

If you look at the Banished Dreadnaught (BD), you'll notice something on the front... Just like the Brute Chopper, it has a jagged, but bladed, bow. It's also clear that it's heavily reinforced, and seemingly made specifically for ramming other massive ships. Perhaps, even, made specifically for the UNSC Infinity. The rear thrusters on the BD are at full blast, while the Infinity's mostly stationary, meaning that every last bit of force was focused on that single section of hull, rather than being dispersed along the flank. If you've ever used the Brute Chopper in multiplayer... doing the exact same thing to a Warthog will immediately destroy it. Taking the extra armor into account, the BD likely weighed MORE than the Infinity, and the bladed front gave it more cutting power.
Next, the UNSC ships **to the best of my knowledge** don't keep their shields up 100% of the time. AFAIK, they only raise them at the start of combat. So, if the Infinity wasn't immediately in a battle, the shields wouldn't be up. The helm is facing forward, with limited visibility. If Atriox used the covenant's slip space tech, he could hide in slip space before surprise-attacking at full speed, close-ranged, at an odd angle. By the time even Roland would notice and begin raising the shields, it'd be too late.

Roland lost systemwide communications from banished ramming. He had let the dumb ai be in control of command. The abandon ship must of stranded him, leaving him with limited options. Isabel was the only other ai not compromised or not included to the roster of Cortana ai network. He could of sent the engine with its functions still operating directly to her after the chaos. It takes 8 months to get there and back. But it could of been 2 months away when chief woke up. Roland could of known that something could of happen there since 4 months before the battle at installation 7, the covenant tried activating the halo rings again but failed. The signal must of alerted him to head there directly if infinity was uninhabitable to function properly due to severe hulll loss and nowhere to go for emergency repairs for the forerunner engines. His arrival and seeing from some intact systems restored during the trip there would of alerted him to the battle and surviving forces still alive after all this time. He would of been forced to hail the support ship informing them of the severe problem of infinity issue’s being critically low integrity. Isabel would of been shocked to have someone arrive in battered condition.

I like this theory alot, but it seems everyone everytime i watch a halo theory on the cutscene battle they completely forget the banished dreadnoughts have stasis beams. A stasis cannon was a covenant weapon mounted on vehicles, quoted from Halo Alpha Fandom
"When fired, it disables the targeted enemy aircraft, rendering it unable to move or fire. Once the Vampire is upgraded with Stasis Drain, the weapon not only stops its target, but also drains its energy regenerating the Vampire itself and making the hostile crash onto the ground. Its second upgrade, Stasis Bomb, causes drained aircraft to explode, inflicting Area-of-Effect damage"
This description fits PERFECTLY with infinites opening scene, even though the stasis cannon first appeared in halo wars 1. The stasis beam that the dreadnoughts have now, locked the infinity down unable to move or fire, and perhaps it was upgraded to drain infinity's shields.
I think yeah, the infinity arrived at zeta halo and fought a guardian. But the Infinity reacted faster than the guardian could and took it down before it could fire back. Then, the banished fire their stasis beams, disabling engines and weapons, and draining energy giving the dreadnoughts more energy perhaps in the engines which is why the first one was able to do so much damage with its ram.

While the Guardians might have dropped the Infinity’s shields, I feel like that’s unlikely, as the Banished wouldn’t have been able to attack so precisely in that case, and they aren’t so blunt as to attack without a plan.
Since there’s already enemies onboard, I think Atriox and an advanced force penetrated the ship quietly and disabled the shields, fighting off the major threats while the dreadnoughts decided to eliminate the ship.
However, I don’t think they *didn’t* kill the guardian. We know Chief was able to make landfall earlier, since the weapon was down there. So I think he was recalled when they found whatever Atriox was hiding in, and *then* the Banished struck from within and then from without.

I’m fairly certain that the Infinity’s wreckage is on Zeta Halo as I’ve seen a picture online showing a very large and very long rectangular shape off in the distance. It even has a hole in the same spot that the banished dreadnought rammed the Infinity. Unfortunately I don’t know exactly where it can be seen from.
Edit: I was able to find where it’s visible from. If you climb to the top of the area around foxhound squad, find the guardian corpse and then look to the right, you’ll see it but now that I’m able to get a better look at it, it’s possible that’s it’s actually a part of the rings edge.

I really like this theory. I believe there’s 2 options for the infinity at the moment. Either it’s crashed on Zeta Halo and the Banished occupy it at the moment trying to repair it to operating status. Similar how Halo 4 the infinity crash landed on Requiem. Or 2: if jumped into slipspace after being rammed.
However, I do think this is a good opportunity to introduce the sister ship (Eternity) in future story expansions.
    Good video as always!

I think the best way to think about the campaign's unanswered questions is from the perspective of it having a ten-year plan. It's obviously leaving things ambiguous left and right so they can be expanded on in future DLCs. The fact that we never see the _Infinity_ actually blow up tells me the ship is at least partially intact. She will be the subject of a future DLC. Unless she was captured and repurposed by the Banished as some are suggesting, I think the idea that she can be repaired and flown off of the ring is a little optimistic, and this would likely happen fairly late into that ten-year plan if that _is_ the case, since the game seems to be treating Zeta Halo itself as, well, the main setting for everything to come. Given how much damage was being done, I'd say the ship is probably just being stripped down for parts and technology, but if she was intact enough, then yeah, I could see the Banished using her.

    Two ideas:
    1. Infinity was completely crippled in the attack, and like the Pillar of Autumn, crash landed on the ring under mostly autonomous control after the human crew abandoned ship. If so, the ship probably can be repaired, given the capabilities of Forerunner construction assets available on the ring. That is, assuming they can take control of the ring and the crash site from the Banished.
    2. If Roland was still on board, he could have initiated a slipspace jump that ended up being a one way trip due to the damage sustained. Where the Infinity would have gone is unknown, but we know that there were few if any human crew aboard after the battle. Asking the Arbiter for assistance would probably be a safe bet, since Infinity repeatedly helped him and the Swords at Sangehelios. With 117 and a Halo ring involved, Thel would send some ships to help.

This theory has a lot of glaring flaws:
    1) From the UNSC audio logs, we can hear Captain Laskey taking a stroll with Chief before the big mission. If the Infinity were being assaulted by a Guardian I’d imagine Laskey and Chief would be at battle stations like the rest of its crew and not taking a leisurely stroll.
    2) If the Banished were there to attack Cortana on the ring, then why didn’t the Infinity detect them as well as the Guardian? As soon as they realized that they would have to fight a Guardian AND a slew of Banished ships, they should made a momentary retreat, because they probably were not aware of The Banished’s relationship with Cortana. For all they knew, The Banished could have momentarily submitted to Cortana and agreed to do her bidding for the moment. Making the threat much worse.
    3) Why wouldn’t the Guardian just fire its Attenuation Pulse? It would have disabled The Infinity and most of the tech on there including the drop ships, like the Pelicans and such, removing their ability to fight AND run. Not to mention the Guardian should’ve detected The Banished ships nearby as well since they would’ve been close enough to ambush the Infinity in this hypothetical scenario, making it even more sensible to activate its Attenuation Pulse which would’ve disabled the Infinity AND all of the nearby Banished ships as well.

Been playing through Halo Infinite and it's a great game (though sad Coop can't out) and loving the story. But to be honest I simply can't make the leap of logic or how the infinity and her escort fleet got annihilated. As I have several problems
    1) UNSC Escorts that we're in her vanguard scouting ahead have a sensor range of 10 light minutes. Given that Infinity was made with the very best and experimental tech id assume it would be even better than her scores by a slight degree. So how did these 4 ships sneak up on her? As they arnt small as we have seen. So maybe they did 4 decently precise jumps and rammed the ship or cloaked? I don't think it was a jump as from an audio log we hear the infinity got boarded not even 15 seconds after the first ram with a significant amount of banished troops. An I doubt a stealth ship could sneak up on the Infinity.
    2) How does 1 ship potentially have enough firepower to drop the infinite shields in less than 10 seconds?
    3) Why does the Infinity keep easily getting overrun by borders?

Frankly I was just looking for a vid or something to discuss this. Not only sensor range but you figure the Infinity has a recon picket of not only fighters but also frigates and corvettes. In fact in the audio files found we hear that there are. FFG-525 for one. This is A.
B, the Infinity herself carries something like 5000 marines, 800 Army soldiers, 800 ODST, and who knows how many S-IV teams. That’s not even including S-II teams, ONI SF, Air Force, or Swords of Sanghelios personnel. My point being, even if the banished managed to board the Infinity there is just no plausible way they would be able to flood the ship with enough troops to overwhelm a force like that. We should keep in mind there is also at minimum one smart AI who would be tracking threats, directing fireteams, and utilizing shipboard defenses and bulkheads to defend and obstruct the boarders.
I mean one of the missions of the IBG is force projection, hence why it alone carries such a huge combined force. This not even taking into account the support ships and escorts with the Infinity. Not including the 10 Stalwart frigates it carries internally.
Meanwhile the Banished are nowhere as big as or well equipped as the Covenant were. Yet they can bypass the Infinity’s advanced shields like they’re nothing? Did 343 forget the Infinity also carries 10 Strident Class heavy frigates? Hundreds of Broadsword and Longsword fighters and bombers which surely would have been on patrol. This on top of her escort of other frigates? I list this again because god damn. Unless you have an overwhelming force, new technology and a prayer then it’s just absurd.
This isn’t the UNSCs first time out either. They knew about the Banished. They’re dealing with Cortana who had been on a rampage. This battle group would have been on high alert and running operations as such. Again, it’s just so ridiculous to me that the Banished can just waltz right in and take over as if the only people guarding the ship are a pair of cardboard cutouts of Marines.
We’re led to believe this was a small and precise attack on the Infinity Battle Group, no? So even more so that there is just no plausible way they could have the force to complete that objective. Yeah Atriox is tough but he’s not invincible and he’s also not a warship. Even boarding the Infinity with a group of his best men it’s just lunacy to believe he’d be able to overcome a force of the ship’s regular forces. Not to mention special forces, S-IVs, S-IIs, and Elites. If you don’t believe that’s lunacy then why is the UNSC frightened and going after Cortana? If Atriox can do all that then he’s a far bigger threat and they should be having capital ships vs Atriox floating in space. Him just fist fighting these giant warships and winning.
It’s just too unbelievable a scenario and personally I think 343 really dropped the ball on this part of the writing.
I will say I haven’t completed the main campaign yet. Close to it I think, I’ve been collecting all the audio files and such. So maybe I’m missing a large part but so far this is what I’ve seen and heard and frankly I hope I’m wrong and that this will make a lot more sense in the end.

Completely agree, and it seems daft how in the video he talks about infinity fighting the guardian being the reason the shields are down but if the shields were downed would they not have already launched the fleet and still had a perimeter around the infinity? Which like you say would be actively scanning?
Even if they successfully downed the guardian, that's not to say there wouldn't be other forerunner forces nearby or even potentially another guardian ready to drop in so it makes no sense for them to drop their guard at all until bases are established
If the infinity detected those banished ships on scanners, it could have sniped them with its Mac's before they could get close
And as for being boarded, infinity had a crew of over 17,000
Over 7100 being troops and an unknown amount of Spartans but I imagine there would have been several Spartan company on board, wether the rest of blue team or Osiris was there I don't know but the banished don't know the layout inside so for them to so quickly over run the infinity with a full compliment of marines, odsts, unsc marines, Spartan companies and other specials with home field advantage seems like bs to me
Idk if there would be any automated defence inside either, but one of the greatest advantages I could see the personnel having, is they all have a HUD that receives data from the ship, as well as it's sensors and cameras etc, so could they literally not be able to see using their HUD what is about to come around a corner in advance?

Another idea that i personally had is, that Lasky said in the Audiologs that he didnt like it that they were like sitting ducks. So maybe they had their shields down and waited for Cortana to be baited in with their mere presence, so the Chief could plant the Weapon like a bomb with a good distraction. So in that way to defeat one enemy, they let themselves open to another enemy, which they had no idea who was coming, which would be even more irony.

  • @hydro9028
    @hydro9028 2 года назад +16

So what i think happened. The infinity went to the ring expecting no banished (as the audio logs suggest), so their shields were not up as the mission was to plant the weapon, lure the cortana and bring her back for deletion. So when they got surprised attack, from the start cutscene ànd audio logs say, the banish smash 6 ships into the infinity. This would do a lot of damage on their own. But then they sent attriox on who was looking for something (hinted towards throughout the game) so he killed everyone, or everyone who couldn't escape. So this is what put the infinity down.
Also cortana didn't activate the ring, she controlled it, but when atriox came and cortana supposedly killing herself and atriox would have put down the gaurdian as they would have no controller. Or cortana put them down when she was realizing what she did.
Ps: if this vid was made before the game was out, then cool good theory, but with the new information then this theory does not hold up
Ps 2: Because of constant slip space jumps and less crew (having to get unqualified civilians as seen from the pilot) some systems such as shields would be down. Also they would have just been at reach getting Halsey cloned brains to make the weapon and may have had conflict there which would put down the shields. So when they get to the ring, not knowing the banished is there, they would have shields down and reasources repairing the ship. The escort fleet may have been left behind to handle the fight on reach or already got destroyed by the banished before the infinity got there and couldn't send a message

It's possible Infinity has a reinforced prow for ramming maneuvers and increased shield strength to the fore, owing to Captain Keyes' 'Loop'. However, the Brutes turned the tactic on them and dropped the shields, then rammed the side of the ship with the new entrants to the Naval battle. Keeping a reserve force even in Naval battles makes great sense, and with the Covenant's capability of mid-system jumps, it wouldn't be unheard of for them to rapidly deploy new vessels with a mid-system jump just to catch the Infinity off-guard.
This also implies that the Brutes somehow became navally skilled, though, and I don't know if even Atriox is *that* smart.

The simple explanation is that 343 wanted to abandon the Created story line as quickly as possible, after that disaster of a story of HALO 5. So they invented the Banished and to make them seem like a credible threat, had them wipe out the Infinity.

A Guardian softening them up makes sense actually. Also with that fight, Chief was distracted bad in the fight, he was so focused to find Cortana again. You could see how he prioritized getting to her chip over focusing on Atriox. He had never faced someone like that before, judging him at first like a regular Brute albeit with power armor. Atriox let Chief use none of his usual strategies and gain distance, likely waiting until he had run out of ammo or had a smaller gun to approach. It was the equivalent of a Grunt with a plasma pistol fighting a human and not realizing they were a Spartan, all while distracted by the desire to see someone they cared about very much. I'd love the chance to talk more about this lore point too honestly.

There are still to many missing variables for an accurate recreation of events. And a couple plot holes to speak of already is all this new technology from the UNSC. Technologically the UNSC should not have had the means to create new warships (the new frigates we see) nor should the Banished have had the means to create warships. The Banished were entirely reliant upon Covenant ships and to suddenly have ships to rival the Infinity doesn't fit. The Guardians entirely neutralized Earth and likely any shipyards for the UNSC, and it is safe to assume the same happened to the Covenant remnants and Banished. I can see smaller ground tech being created on board the Infinity like the Gen3 armor for Spartans, but not new warships... All this was a tangent leading into the fight analysis.
The Infinity appeared dead in the water during that fight and it was quite disappointing for me for them to hype up the ship so much only to off it in the opening scene of Infinite. Its like killing a main character just for shock value even if it has no place.

Banished then arrived (using Forerunner Slipspace crystal) and messed up UNSC plans. Banished most likely jumped on top of Infinity location and rammed it after just exiting from Slipspace.

My guess is that while the banished most assuredly destroyed the Infinity, they didn’t shatter it into a zillion pieces and the main shell of the ship’s carcass crashed onto the ring in the location we see it in the backdrop. It's basically the same with the fight Sequence of Chief and Atriox, Chief is still basically a 1000lb Iron Man, with unbelievably amped strength and a mjolnir armor that powers him even more and yeah... appearently he can land a clean chin hook on Atriox' bare skin, not even armor and he just shrugs it off... MC is easily twice as strong as a human, mjolnir like quadruples that as far as I know and he is 5-6x as massive as a human, that includes his fist, we're talking about a punch that is like 8x as powerful as a human's punch and it's a more or less direct metal to bone collision, that's an incredibly dense area of applied force, even denser than a normal punch + The metal of MC's armour doesn't deform that easily, that means even more if the force is applied directly into the target. @@odinulveson9101 I have to disagree with the Arbiter, he got some great lines and scenes in H3, he's a chad character.
what realy pissed me off is how little he was in H5 and that they never bothered to show his and cheifs reunion.
A lot of the problems are with the storytelling itself, the contrast in the writing of the H3 elite vs brute fleet battle and of the Infinity vs bannished is astounding.
H3 shows the forces arrive, clearly shows and states the disposition and arrangement of the forces, and that one significantly outnumbers the other.
It makes it clear that this a tough but winnable battle by the elites confidence, and ends after an extended period of time.
We know that truth's ship fled and didnt take part in the battle, the brute fleet is ruined, the dawn lands on the arc, and most of the elite force is still intact.
Infinite however throws us right into the middle of the battle, it is not explained how the forces met, the number or arrangement of the ships, or the length of the battle, but shows the infinity being pummled and boarded.
After cheif is thrown overboard, no clear information is given other than that the ship is "lost" with all hands, we dont know if was destroyed, crashed or captured, how many crew survived, or how many losses the bannished took in the engagement.

A fight with a guardian wouldn't affect just a few systems and it is naive to believe that the designers had all the power systems connected on the same rails. Her weapons system would be segmented as well. Her 10 Onager dorsal Macs and 85 dorsal anti air/space heavies should've been firing all out. 350 archer missile pods, 250 rapier missile pods. 500 howler missile pods, 190 guided missile pods should've been launching all that they had left. These systems don't need human attendance. Her 830 point defense 72 mm guns should've been hammering everything. To state that sensors, shields and weapons were taken out but nothing else? Is really really bad writing.

The banish we're able to get a ship online and seeing that the infinity was weaken, attacked causing the crew to scramble to see what is attacking them and best strategy but by the time they engage the ship the other ships came back and strike them bringing it down.
A personal reason the ship and ring disappear is the infinity drive was hit causing a black hole like slip space dragging everything near it to a new location which is why (I got this vibe not sure) the banish were in fighting some what with the leader at the time wanting to have "fun" with master chief instead of figuring out where they were

I prefer my theory that cortana was already theee with the guardian, as soon as infinity warped in, thr guardian fired an EMP pulse, shutting down the infinity
Lasky says "i dont care what it takes, engines, lights, even shields! Just get them MAC guns operational!" In ehich the officer intentionally prioritised turning the guns back online opposed to the shields
As soon as the guns were back up, they shot and destroyed the guardian, immedietly following lasky saying "get everything back online ASAP!" In which, naturally, shields would have been prioritised
But before they could re-engage the shields the banished showed up and started to shred the infinity
Lasky, knowing this is a defeat, bellowed out "ROLAND! i dont care what it takes, the MILISECOND we get the shields back up, get us out of here!"

its a very solid theory. and it would make sense in an overall tactical setting

  • @nihren2406
    @nihren2406 Год назад

While the theory does make some sense, a bit of the context surrounding the events preceding Infinite is missing. It's stated in the game that Cortana wasn't on that ring, in fact the ring we saw previously in Halo 5 was Installation 09/04C from Halo Wars 2. Installation 07/Zeta Halo wasn't touched by Cortana. Or at the very least, she wasn't there for some time. She might've been there previously, as hinted at during some of the games story beats where she talks with the installations monitor. But what really led to Infinite's events was the Infinity delivering The Weapon to Zeta Halo, planting her there as a lure. She possessed a copy of the activation index, or fragments of it, as well as having a similar signal to Cortana due to their shared origins. This caught Cortana and the Created's attention and Cortana personally went to Zeta Halo to confront Weapon. It was here that Weapon's trap closed shut on Cortana. The Guardian was likely Cortana's personal one, and without Cortana to control it, it either moved on its own or crashed down onto Zeta Halo. Or perhaps a third possibility, there was more than one AI aboard, so when Cortana was locked down the other took control. This scenario or the first one with it moving autonomously would work with this theory. The Infinity would need to leave Zeta Halo's area before Cortana arrived, otherwise her attention would be focused on it instead. When they received the signal from Weapon that Cortana had been captured, Infinity jumped into Slipspace.
Something to keep in mind is that in the book Shadows of Reach, the Infinity was extremely careful not to draw the Created's attention. Not only because they needed time, but because, and this is a big point, the Infinity CAN'T fight the Guardians. Even its four Super MAC's wouldn't take out a Guardian. It only poked a hole in the Mantle's Approach, barely an inconvenience. Granted, it was probably the EMP they feared most, but it's a reason they would never engage a Guardian head on. It's actually implied in the game that the Banished ambushed the Infinity IMMEDIATELY after it exited Slipspace. There would likely be signs of a Slipspace rupture, especially one that big, and the Banished knew it would be coming. So they wanted around the area it was likely to exit at. It's also possible that shields were down while in transit, either because they needed to be(Not likely) or simply because they expected zero resistance so why have them up? The most likely answer of course is just that, for plot reasons, they were down. No real explanation. They needed to be down so that the Banished could ambush the ship and take it out fast. When you really think about it, it wasn't a very good plan. If it's shields had been up, as you would expect them to be, the ships probably would've bounced off of each other at worst given the Dreadnoughts size. The Covenant Remnant vessel was tiny with far weaker shields, so no wonder the shields flickered, broke, and the ship was obliterated. But the Dreadnoughts are large enough that that wouldn't happen, especially with them doing the ramming. But the Infinity's shields are Forerunner strength, so they wouldn't break under the pressure from the Dreadnoughts. So if the Infinity's shields had been up, Escharum's plan would've been a wash. He basically got lucky, but then bragged about it.

  • @FrozenPhoenix15
    @FrozenPhoenix15 2 года назад +3

There’s a simpler answer that doesn’t involve the Guardian: the Banished _did_ actually have the firepower to drop the Infinity’s shields, just not in the way you think.
Infinite introduces us to Jiralhanae Shock weaponry, technology that is designed to *disable shields and vehicles.* Also, in Halo: Envoy, it’s mentioned that Brutes enjoy overloading their ships with armor plating and simply charging at enemy vessels.
So, the Banished likely fitted their vessels with ship-sized Shock Rifles, began the battle by disabling the Infinity’s shields at range, then slammed straight into it as a final insult.
As for the Infinity’s fate? Well, the last person we actually see aboard the Infinity is Atriox, and the last person we see in the game 6 months later is a not-dead Atriox. I assume that the two events are related.

Lets be honest, UNSC Infinity fell because fans didnt like the Infinity in general, and although quite a few people like the ship now, their opinions didnt matter. 343 listens to the loudest voices, so they curbstomped the Infinity (and possibly the entire Created) in the most quickest, and anticlimactic way possible.
There is still possibly a way to salvage this, though. What if in a future Halo Infinite Campaign, we find the crash-site of the Infiity, and instead of blowing it up for the sake of nostalgically-mimicking Halo CE (which is a game I like) we use a Forerunner Upgrade-Seed to repair the Infinity?
