Followed your instructions in this video with the file higherarchy, I can see the model and the only error I get now is: CAnimationSetEditor::CreateAnimationSetForModel: model has no facial animation model models/hots/heroes/arthas/arthas/arthas.mdl [HotS\Heroes\Arthas\Arthas\Arthas.mdl] (I assume I don't need that to get SMF to see the textures). However, the textures are STILL purple and black checkers. Any help is greatly appreciated.
My TFMovies Sniper model only his face and glasses along with his eyes have turned a transparent black and pink, I've put the textures back in there and it didn't work, if I reinstall SFM will they be fine again or...?
I added the CBS model to usermod per video instructions and assumed it wouldn't mess with the TF Files.. Somehow it did and only for Sniper, but I've tried backing up the files too and that didn't work, so I just did what everyone said and am re installing it hoping for the best.

This 'Characters\Geralt_of_Rivia.mdl' and associated vtx files are out of date'.... is a common error and can be ignored. What you want to look for is an error that says, Can't load {path\filename}.vmt or Can't find {path\filename}.vtf in the console. This is telling you exactly what isn't loading and where it needs to be in the file structure.
I'm having that problem with a model I'm working on the model's body is purple and black but the body.vmt is in the right folder but the black and purple checker thing is still there someone said that the file may have to be compressed to an DTX5? I don't know what that is but do I delete the body.vmt file and download it again?
I have to ask, and maybe you can help me, because no one seems to have the same problem (I googled it and couldn't find anything) but when I spawn a model in SFM, when I hit "crtl" to see the bones, I get this single dot around the pelvis that says the file name of the model and apparently it has no bones. I can't move it, I can't do anything to it. At first I thought the model I had gotten was bad, but then I looked at the models that everyone knows have bones (the TF2 models) and even THOSE have the same thing. Any ideas for a solution?
I'm not liking it either, and actually I did find out the problem. Turns out I was in "render mode", and that doesn't allow you to play with the bones.

Well that wasnt close to what I was looking for. I converted a model from xnalara and no matter what I tried the textures are STILL missing! It's been a fricking month! I am really starting to get pissed off.

You created a model in blender then unwrapped the mesh to a UV map and then painted the model in Blender? Or you Just added Blender materials to the model as you created objects without creating UV maps? The next question is, did you create the textures in Blender Render or Cycles Nodes?These question need to be answered before anyone can help you.
+Sir Cereal As far as I know, the Workshop doesn't download zip files. Look at the console as soon as you touch the model in the model browser, you should see some sort of error message. Can't load .vvd, can't find VMT or VTF. That kind of thing. You can then troubleshoot the model.
Ok I know this is a old video but i hope someone can still help me here. For some reason my missing textures are legit missing or more like when I type in $basetexture on a model I don't get the Checkerboard thing like everyone does, I get a black and blue lighting pictures or so. gd saturn when you import to sfm from the VPK files you have to import the vmt materials from the tf2_misc_dir vpk AND the VTF textures materials from the tf2_textures VPK. Valve separated them _

Can someone please help me, i have the fem scout model made by Plasmid and whenever i try to load it up in SFM the arm wraps are pink and black checkered squares and the eyes, though you can still see the pupil and iris and all that, have what looks like a purple and black checkered reflection. This video was done before the console method of determining what was wrong was either available or discovered. Now, what I mean by this is... Load SFM and make sure you have your console window open so you can see it somewhere in your work area, Load a map, Create an animation set for new model. When the Model browser pops up, search for your fem scout. Now before you spawn it into scene, select it and look immediately at the console window. There you should see material error information for that model, stuff like Can't load {path\filename}.vmt or Can't find {path\filename}.vtf. These errors are telling you what is wrong or what is missing and where they should be located in a known materials folder.Now, for pinkish or brownish checkerboards. What these mean are that textures like bumpmap or detail or environmental things can't be found and sometimes you actually have to look at the materials VMT to discover what is actually missing and where the material has to look to find it.
Mine is more different than yours because my problem is a fnaf model. All the white textures have turned into a checkerboard thing.. only whit checkerboard. Some are the pink and black checkerboard.. I REALLY NEED HELP!!
Danny and Tommy launch SFM, create a session, make sure you can see the console window, type clear in the console, right click the animation set window, create a new animation set for model, when the browser window opens search for your model, when it appears in the window select it but don’t Spawn it, Close the browser, look at the information in the consul window, there you will find an error stating “ can’t find or can’t load path backslashfile name

They could be extra models that were not actually added to the actual game play. One thing to do is, start SFM, Start a new session, DON'T load a map. Right click the animation set editor, and load a new model. When the model browser opens, search for one of the invisible models. When its name comes up in the browser, select it (don't spawn it) and look immediately at the console window. There you should see an error like "Can't Load or can't find {path\modelname}.vvd . This error is telling you that the model is in the wrong folder or is not named properly. Move the or rename the model files correctly and it should become visible.

The Amazing Gamer111 I have to redo this video. Back in 2013 this how we had to find out where missing textures and materials lived. If you go to my profile page on Steam and look at the missing texture guide I updated, you’ll find an easiest way of finding what is missing and where it belongs.
If you're downloading from the SFM workshop, then materials and textures should work unless they are using those from a game that you haven't got ported into SFM. If you're talking about downloading from a GMod Workshop, same thing or they are not located in the proper folders. I really have to get rid of this video, it was done before the console reported broken things... Go here and look at my guide. You have to read the error messages for the materials that are black and purple. The path information in the "Can't load {path}\filename.vtf" or "Can't find {path}\filename.vmt" is where the missing materials and textures need to be.
Only if you decompile, open the model in a 3D editor, change the material names there, export, change the texture path in the qc and recompile the model.

if you check on the DLC for Portal 2 in SFM it automatically installs to the proper folder in SFM. You have to activate it using the edit search pat option in the SFM SDK.

That has nothing to do with materials or textures being black and purple and can be ignored.
How do I fix if the console's MLDCache: Failed load of.VVD data for VPP/BB_AloeBlossom_VVP.mld
Place the .vvd, dx90.vtx and the .mdl for the model into the folder path {modfolder}\models\vpp

what can you do in workshop?
Most of BarnBlitz is in black/purple checkers
Then you haven't got the materials or the textures of BarnBiltz ported into SFM or they're not in the proper folder structure.

for me its the dlc of portal
if you check on the DLC for Portal 2 in SFM it automatically installs to the proper folder in SFM. You have to activate it using the edit search pat option in the SFM SDK.

Create a folder called portal in your SFM\game folder.Extract ONLY the Materials, Models, Particles and Sound folder using GCFScape or Crowbar into that Portal FolderNow launch SFM from the steam Client and select Launch SDK Select "Edit Search path for selected mod" from the SDK menu and turn on the portal folder.Now you can launch SFM and enjoy using the content.

Mine is more different than yours because my problem is a fnaf model. All the white textures have turned into a checkerboard thing.. only whit checkerboard. Some are the pink and black checkerboard.. I REALLY NEED HELP!!
