Buddhist do not pray to ancestors. Ancestors is sentient beings. Buddhist is Buddhist, Taoist is Taoist. Apples and Oranges. Buddhist is a foreign religion and alot is lost, Buddhism was destroyed in China four times. Many scriptures were destroyed. Many teachings were lost. People are attracted to Lamas, because they are a mix of Indian, Buddhist, and Taoist. Indian religion is different from Buddhist.

In Chinese Buddhist worship of ancestors, Buddhist recites the Buddhist scriptures on their behave so that the departed souls will be free from the endless cycles of reincarnations and gain Nirvana.

I think don't ask a buddhist monk for advise on taoist or chinese lifestyle practices. If you have the time, explore this buddhist monk's website, Buddhatuhk, he has given talks on the history. There is no ghost in buddhism. To them people do not become ghost when they expire.
not buddhist then how? I know buddhism, it is one of the choices. Do not obliterate people's choice. Taoism is being destroyed by buddhism because it is creeps up on chinese people's unawares that it first adopt your practice and changes it.
