DA Noelle is in the game because Melty blood is advertisment for the Tsukihime Remake. She looks like that because when Noelle became a vampire she reverted to a physical age when she was last truly happy which if you know Noelle's back story she hasn't been happy in a long time. Note apparently her design was instructed to look like she is in the wrong place at the wrong time which is why her design stands out (for better or for worse) among the rest of the characters. So yeah if her design feels weird or cringe, mission accomplished.
Also. Trap setting is fun, her combos have fun tempo shifts, and I very rarely have to worry about my magic gaudge because most of the time the optimal use is ending a combo with 214C and committing Okizeme war crimes.
I still have hope that the remake will get that english translation and release here in the west. Otherwise the original with the english fan translation is really damn good. Honestly all of Tsukihime is just really damn good. Visual Novels don't really get me but I could spend days purely reading this though.
The thing is, this is probably the better long-term business move, too. Fighting games have a lot of room grow, and even if there's a limit on how much they reasonably could, lowering the barrier to entry and the roadblocks to sticking with it can help maintain an active community which drives more sales, and fosters customer loyalty in the long run. And like, not even by using the really scummy tactics corporations love to use nowadays; just by being like... genuinely cool. Like, I have plenty of criticisms of how money-hungry corporations are, but the thing that kills me is, there *are* ways to be just as, if not *more* profitable long-term that involve like... doing right by your customers... and they almost *never, fucking, do it.* Opting instead to throw consumers into the woodchipper for fast cash. And then wonder gormlessly why anyone would think they should all be fucking hanged.
It probably is, but unfortunately with the bigger companies a lot of the incentive is to keep stock valuations high, and apparently the pattern is (or at least was, finance seems to move real fast) to drop a company's stock as soon as its rise stops accelerating. That is, not when it starts to go down, but when it stops going up as quickly as it had been, which means every publicly traded company is very incentivized to think short term because otherwise their investors will sell, removing the company's ability to raise funds through stock sales (due to the lower price for it, on account of the selling) and making it vulnerable to another company buying it outright because its stock is now pennies on the dollar, meaning they have much less of a long term to even consider.
0:11 for those questioning this, click the read more button but I will say TRIGGER WARNING FOR RAPE AND CHILD ABUSE. So Kohaku and Hisui initially had each others personalities with Kohaku being the silent one and Hisui being the energetic one. This is because their family had this ability to give each other energy and Makihasa Tohno (Shiki and Akiha’s dad) needed to keep control of his body because reasons I won’t go into and abused this by raping Kohaku as a child since apparently sex was the strongest method of energy transfer. Eventually, she got more freedom and stopped getting raped, but had to take care of SHIKI (spelled with Kanji in JP, spelled with all caps in English, different from the Shiki we normally know) who was imprisoned for reasons I won’t get into. However SHIKI needed to keep his body under composure for the same reasons as his dad, so he also ended up raping Kohaku. Kohaku after having enough ended up drugging and brainwashing SHIKI so she wouldn’t get raped anymore. Akiha and Hisui later learn of what happened to Kohaku and she gets turned into a regular maid instead of basically a sex slave by Akiha and Hisui says that she will “take on her role” of being the silent one so Kohaku can at least try to be happy So TL:DR, Kohaku got raped by 2 different people as a child and Hisui said “hey I’ll be the sad one so you can try to be happy for once”
Skullgirls actually had a similar "dlc" cycle back in the day where the new character would be free for a month, and then you'd have to pay for them after that initial month
there is some misinfo here. They never said they were limited time. It was misinterpretation from "Free dlc decision" that was just bad translaation of "We decided to make the characters free".
"Free DLC? How are they making a profit?" FGO (The most successful and profitable gacha game ever to be made literally twice because of NA/JP releases being separate): Greetings mortal
wake up babe Gekko dropped a Melty video ah don't you just love seeing someone react to Nasuverse lore? It's truly beautiful without how much this drives someone insane. Gotta also remember besides the F/GO money, the game sold a lot more than expected at launch, and French Bread has like, 20 employees so they don't really have that many people to give salaries to.
I really love the way they gave back to the fans. Like free dlc is really crazy for this day and age. The only thing that I can think of that comes close is sf5 which gives you fight money you can use to get some of your favorite characters by just grinding in game stuff.
"The season pass is what fighting games at large have decided on" Uh, excuse you, Multiversus is actually using a free-to-play battle pass system where each individual character *at launch* is like $5, where you have to grind for not only FOMO skins, but voice packs, profile icons, taunts, and a bunch of other shit that no one cares about in the first place, let alone things that should cost money, all so you can brag about spending more time and money on the game where Garnet is white and the Iron Giant is punching a Rickenmorty in the face! ...oh you said "fighting game," not "ugly piece of shit gambling game" my bad
@@gregvs.theworld451 this is the least reported on issue with the game. Garnet on the red team or whatever, the default costume when assigned red colors by the game, is whitewashed. Video Games Chronicle showed it once, but ive seen virtually no buzz about this trash heap making one of the most well known black cartoon characters ever white for no reason legit think VGC is the only website that shows this, cannot find a single other image of it outside of live footage. maybe they patched it out but i doubt it lmao, ive seen virtually no one even notice. Cannot stress enough for those who havent seen tho, they make her Caucasian. This is not a slightly paler palette, they color picked an egg for this poor girl
Free characters post-release is certainly rare. I think I can only come up with two other examples when it comes to big series, with KoF XV adding Rugal (and soon Gönitz), then there was SSBU that put Piranha Plant in there. But yeah, pretty rare. Maybe Multiversus sort of counts, but that game is F2P to begin with. I don't remember what the new characters cost in that recent Nickelodeon platform fighter, possibly nothing as well.
I think the idea that a money grabber being used to fund another game was the entire reason gacha was even defended in the first place. Its become sadly common for games(or any media for that matter) to be vehicles to fund themselves and grow the company alone rather than diverse experiences able to support each other and still make a profit. Seeing melty blood as an actual example of this gives me hope that Project Moon does the same thing and doesn't get swallowed into the abyss after experiencing the temptation.
The dlc being free saved my wallet since i tripled dipped in steam, swtched, and ps4. I also struggle to find character to played. The one I wanted to main where PCiel, Ushi, Mash, and i some how landed on mario. how aggravating would it had been for me to purchase each one seperatly only to find their not my cup of tea?
I might be misremembering but I kinda remember Kamone just saying that the game blew past all expectations so far that they could finance the DLC and give it for free. It was on the Steam front page when it came out.
Technically SFV let you unlock characters using in game currency. At first getting the currency was so easy and fast the first 6 characters might as well have bean free. Or if you actually bought the first character pass the second one would be free. (I managed to get the first 2 character passes for free and latter also unlocked Kage and Seth for free). Eventually capcom nerfed how much in game currency you could get but at the same time made the game quite cheap to get over time.
ARMS is another game that added five characters and stages completely for free. Apparently the game had a patch as recently as November of 2022, which seemed to be only fixing stability issues and had no balance changes or content added, but it proves that someone at Nintendo is still paying attention to the game. As a reminder, this game was released three months after the Switch came out. More on-topic, I've actually seen many negative comments in light of the recent two characters being Fate ones rather than being from Tsukihime. I bought the game because Mash was added, so you can probably guess where I fall on that divide.
After finally reading the fan translation patch to Tsukihime, I now now why DA (Dead Apostle) Noel is a child. She was changed into a vampire and chose the form when she was last happy, as a child before her entire town was fed upon.
The thing is that this should be a standard thing with all full priced games, its quite sad that we have all grown normalized to full priced games charging us more money to buy a character.
@@SaltySynapse so you're saying is you don't want fighting games to come up with additional characters and you also think that updates take additional development time
So basically when the maid were children a wealthy man known as makihisa tohno adopted them because the tohnos are actually demons that invert and go crazy and the maid have this ability where when they have sex with someone they heal them so one of the maids was force to use this power when she was five which cause her to become sad but her sister never had to use her power and swapped personalities because the protagonist left because he got killed by his brother
0:10 Idk about the remake, but from what I know, Tuskihimie wasn't all that big in Japan back in the day. If anything, Melty Blood was the more popular game back in the early 00's.
I know that Skullgirls has done the limited time free charatcers thing in the past. But they've also allowed players to test charatcers while still in development! As in, some of the charatcer's animations were still just sketches kind of unfinished. But it's super cool to see how these charatcers develop over time and take player feedback as well!
it's very appreciated, but personally I especially appreciate it when I play the game on my switch and all the characters are there without me paying twice. edit - oh wow apparently there are new levels I hadn't noticed yet!
In addition, I think they went on record to say the game performed well beyond expectations sales-wise and the free content is sort of a "thank you" to the community
The only other game I have seen do this is UNIST when it upgraded to UNICLR. Free moves and a balance update, the new character did cost money tho. FrenchBread also made that game too haha.
I LOVE this game, though the recent dlc update has done something to make loadtimes before matches 100x longer, and I just went back to mbaacc. I hope that this problem is fixed soon.
i see that the game is on 50% sale rn and im interested to buy it but im afraid as a steam EU player i won't be able to really find matches outside of discord. are there any non-god rank players left? game looks super cool tho especially the dracula guy
Dota 2 releases new characters for free. Overwatch did it... until Overwatch 2... kinda not sure how that one works. Apex Legends kinda does but it depends on if you count "around 40h worth of in game currency (or use money)" as free or not. Warframe it's similar where it's usually behind "farm the new content that we also just added (or pay to skip)". Bloons Tower Defense 6 lets you get new (and old) heroes with in game currency that's very easy to get. I could also technically count Genshin Impact cause you can get enough f2p premium currency to get new characters, but unlike those other f2p title where it's "money or grind" the characters release much faster than you can f2p grind them for. Ok I don't have a point I just wanted to see how many "games that give new characters for free" I could find. But even then, if you don't count "requires grinding some currency" as "free" (since that's a time cost), then I just have Dota 2. Those are 100% free, and similarly Valve is surfing on big Steam money (and all the cosmetic lootboxes they sell).
ive read somewhere on twitter that the reason why Type Lumina gives out free DLC characters is because, they want to(?) iirc, the developer was really overwhelmed by how the game got positive impressions by everyone and that the game's sale exceeded their expectation. since they dont really need the extra cash by doing paid DLC, they made them free (also as a way of them saying thank you)

nah they are just doing their own stuff. they dont worry about trying to influence the industry they just do stuff and do it on their own biased ways(like how they refuse to put their visual novels on PC because they want "a couch experience in front of the TV and not just reading it on a monitor")
I think this video is a bit misleading as it isn't French Bread who made the DLC free, but Type Moon. If you look at the info that comes from the devs, the roster, and the story, it becomes very clear that the DLC decisions are up to Type Moon but the game play aspects of said characters are French Bread's work.

Tsukihime RULES and having a dope fighter attached is even better, Im a huge fan of both
I still have hope that the remake will get that english translation and release here in the west. Otherwise the original with the english fan translation is really damn good. Honestly all of Tsukihime is just really damn good. Visual Novels don't really get me but I could spend days purely reading this though.
I love these devs. Also the single player content in this game keeps getting expanded for free which is insane.
Akiha and Hisui later learn of what happened to Kohaku and she gets turned into a regular maid instead of basically a sex slave by Akiha and Hisui says that she will “take on her role” of being the silent one so Kohaku can at least try to be happy
So TL:DR, Kohaku got raped by 2 different people as a child and Hisui said “hey I’ll be the sad one so you can try to be happy for once”
I will never look at the Akiha Vs Kohaku/Hisui match up the same way ever again- holy fuck
@@Wolfedge75 gonna be honest I haven’t even read Tsukihime, I just paraphrased the Wiki lol
@@reilly5005 Give the manga a shot. It's damn good (though the maids lore aren't even touched upon there)
Skullgirls actually had a similar "dlc" cycle back in the day where the new character would be free for a month, and then you'd have to pay for them after that initial month
I mean, FUCKING RUGAL (that's his full name) was free dlc in kof 15 and he looks like fun
there is some misinfo here. They never said they were limited time. It was misinterpretation from "Free dlc decision" that was just bad translaation of "We decided to make the characters free".
Man I love melty blood and it's so nice that they give us more characters
7:00 Because: read the visual novel!
What did I pay 70 dollars for? Was it just the art book? WAS IT JUST THR ART BOOK!? PLEASE TELL ME IT WASN'T JUST THE ART BOOK
and the soundtrack of the game(including the menu and story music) with some of the remasters of old melty from the preference of raito
i wish the art book would have been unlockable content in the game because i have so many points and nothing to spend them on :(
"Free DLC? How are they making a profit?"

ah don't you just love seeing someone react to Nasuverse lore? It's truly beautiful without how much this drives someone insane.
Gotta also remember besides the F/GO money, the game sold a lot more than expected at launch, and French Bread has like, 20 employees so they don't really have that many people to give salaries to.
No, no, no, the weirdest thing about MBTL is how they buffed Vlov with every single update. Like why? I HATE IT
I really love the way they gave back to the fans. Like free dlc is really crazy for this day and age. The only thing that I can think of that comes close is sf5 which gives you fight money you can use to get some of your favorite characters by just grinding in game stuff.
"The season pass is what fighting games at large have decided on"
Uh, excuse you, Multiversus is actually using a free-to-play battle pass system where each individual character *at launch* is like $5, where you have to grind for not only FOMO skins, but voice packs, profile icons, taunts, and a bunch of other shit that no one cares about in the first place, let alone things that should cost money, all so you can brag about spending more time and money on the game where Garnet is white and the Iron Giant is punching a Rickenmorty in the face!
...oh you said "fighting game," not "ugly piece of shit gambling game" my bad
I agree with 99.99 percent of your criticism here but Garnet is white? Bruh what?
@@gregvs.theworld451 this is the least reported on issue with the game. Garnet on the red team or whatever, the default costume when assigned red colors by the game, is whitewashed. Video Games Chronicle showed it once, but ive seen virtually no buzz about this trash heap making one of the most well known black cartoon characters ever white for no reason
legit think VGC is the only website that shows this, cannot find a single other image of it outside of live footage. maybe they patched it out but i doubt it lmao, ive seen virtually no one even notice.
Cannot stress enough for those who havent seen tho, they make her Caucasian. This is not a slightly paler palette, they color picked an egg for this poor girl
always remember! Play Melty Blood! with the power of Friendship and Poverty!
0:11 Maid lore... :Despair:
I’m excited about project L but I’m worried what it will do to this genre.
Jesus Neco-arc basically just revied a genre
we are all at its mercy
I think the idea that a money grabber being used to fund another game was the entire reason gacha was even defended in the first place. Its become sadly common for games(or any media for that matter) to be vehicles to fund themselves and grow the company alone rather than diverse experiences able to support each other and still make a profit. Seeing melty blood as an actual example of this gives me hope that Project Moon does the same thing and doesn't get swallowed into the abyss after experiencing the temptation.
Was that "faaavourite finger" joke a reference to Battleblock Theatre? Lol

0:18 It also has a Special Segment in the Mugen Community
I thought that V1.07 was packaged with a special edition of Carnival Phantasm
The thing is that this should be a standard thing with all full priced games, its quite sad that we have all grown normalized to full priced games charging us more money to buy a character.
You're right because development time is free
@@markjack9772 or maybe just release the game all at once, we are paying full price you know
@@SaltySynapse they do we're talking about additional content
And currently if fighting games don't get updates regularly people will not play them
@@markjack9772 ok free updates then, a full priced game has no monetary necessity to make dlc, they have more than enough money.
@@SaltySynapse so you're saying is you don't want fighting games to come up with additional characters and you also think that updates take additional development time
0:11 I feel like I do but also don’t want to know.
tsukihime is a good read
Worse than you think... probably
Type lumina is a tsukihime remake spin off everything new here like noel and da noel its from it's remake
I wonder if they would sell fully fleshed out game modes like a survival mode that like a rogue like.
Holy shit our boy got a sponsor
UNICLR was actually a free update if you already own the previous game.
I'd pop my shit if Order-Sol was a free bonus character in Strive
i see that the game is on 50% sale rn and im interested to buy it
but im afraid as a steam EU player i won't be able to really find matches outside of discord.
are there any non-god rank players left?

Fun fact they changed her character design drastically
Oh wow!! I had no idea about this, I might pick the game up if I don't need any dlc or anything :))
Free DLC in a world where larger companies charge you for even the in-game frame data...
French Based
If you hate d.a. noel GO play and read tsukihime remake
You're missing a great fucked up character and lore lmao
Tekken Tag 2 has entered the chat..
But melty blood, play melty blood, enjoy melty blood.
im planning on making a fighting game, and honestly thought that free updates where the norm like they are in any other genre. Apparently they arent.
These 8 characters aren't even technically dlc since you don't have to D-own L-oad the C-ontent ,it's part of the game
Maybe make DLC characters free in the training mode and monetized to used them anywhere else.
ive read somewhere on twitter that the reason why Type Lumina gives out free DLC characters is because, they want to(?) iirc, the developer was really overwhelmed by how the game got positive impressions by everyone and that the game's sale exceeded their expectation. since they dont really need the extra cash by doing paid DLC, they made them free (also as a way of them saying thank you)
Wait they sold over their expectations?
yeah tsukihime's lore is certainly... a thing. Good? Eh. Bad? Probably. Fucked up? Abso fucking lutely.
Kohaku's backstory alone is enough to make me concerned for the creator's mental well being
Have y'all seriously never consumed a single piece of media with dark elements in it? Why are you all so fixated on that lmfao
@@nouvelle147 Man there's a difference between 'media with dark elements' and the level that Tsukihime goes to. Dark elements is like Tanya and Re:Zero, this is a bit beyond that.
@@emeraldmann1329 Geniunely not. There are TONS of media that explore even darker themes, Tsukihime is pretty optimistic when it comes to it's darker elements, always having that hopeful "Light at the end of the tunnel" feel. Just hearing about the backstory might be shocking for people, but I wouldn't say it's over the top or anything
just remember that fgo prints so much money they (while not as much as genshin) they can just make anime just for the hell of it. the whales are gods and i kiss their asses with my peasant lips cause holy shit i love dantes. though type moon, where is the tsuki-hime anime that covers all ending and a movie and another kara no kyokai movie?
Project L will be following in the same footsteps with the addition of the game being F2P from the get go. Just like French Bread Riot will have League skins money to mess with so they don't need to worry about making sure their fighting game is financially successful (though it probably will have skins)
Number 10: Neko Arc
...just please...UNI2, as well French bread.
btw type lumina is part of the tsukihime remake series which is far better and less sus than the OG (still kinda sus tho)
The GOAT 🐐 of Monte Cristo
Hmmm... it's almost like someone at the publisher has something to prove to other fighting game publishers or something...
nah they are just doing their own stuff. they dont worry about trying to influence the industry they just do stuff and do it on their own biased ways(like how they refuse to put their visual novels on PC because they want "a couch experience in front of the TV and not just reading it on a monitor")
I think this video is a bit misleading as it isn't French Bread who made the DLC free, but Type Moon. If you look at the info that comes from the devs, the roster, and the story, it becomes very clear that the DLC decisions are up to Type Moon but the game play aspects of said characters are French Bread's work.
Lumina rules, my favorite fighting game. BUY ITTTTTTTTTTT

I'm super interested in this game. Is it still a discord fighter or is matchmaking pretty good right now?
I can get ranked matches faster in type lumina than I can in strive, usually less than a minute. The casual lobbies kind of suck though
It was never a discord fighter really, the ranked only gets hiccups during new patches but they get fixed quickly and the rollback keeps improving
If you play rank you will get matches pretty fast
yeah characters shouldnt be a paywall it makes competitive play better , its like soulcalbur banned characters that were only playable by certain machines, it feels the same with dlc characters and just unfair.

Why do the maids act like that...
The cheerful one, Kohaku, was subject to the r word repeatedly by the former head of the Tohno family when she was really young. When Hisui found out they essentially switched swapped personalities out of depression.
Wait why does the maid act like that?
Drugs, rape, and (kinda) survivors guilt.
