This is the most honest and straight forward C300 Mk3 review I have seen. Thank you. I will say, I think I slightly prefer the C200 images to the C300 Mk3. The skin tones pop. I would love to see a direct side by side. Those shots Atlas Anamorphic lenses look amazing.
thanks. in terms on colors i think c200 and c300 mk3 are pretty close. It's just a different color grade I did on c200 shots in the video. you can get great images from both. and Yes, the atlas orion lenses look great. I love them a lot
Your cinematography looks amazing! What lenses are you using for those fashion/athletic shots early in the video? (0:30-0:45) The best way I can describe those shots is “clean”. Very nice. Also we’re you using autofocus for those shots? Thanks for making great content!
Great video Hugo! Are you considering doing some image comparisons with the Alexa? I’m sure this would be a popular video, I haven’t seen any others yet and given they both share the dgo sensor technology it would be interesting to see!
Hi Hugo, a great review and the first time I’ve sat up and listened to the pros of the C300 3. I’m still set on upgrading from my C200 to a used Amira though.
Good work, I’m also an owner of both C300iii and C200 and the C300iii really does it for me in 2 places vs C200 4k120 an DG0. One annoying difference that was fixed on the C300iii u may have added is the media switch.
Hello! Amazing review and footage! I´ve a doubt about the anamorphic mode. In which resolution do you end after the desqueeze in 4k? Can you end in 4k without losing quality? Or after the crop the resolution is way lower than 4k? To finish, do you need and external monitor with desqueeze in order to use 50 fps anamorphic? Thanks!
it's gonna be about 2.8k. but Arri for instance does the same and no one complains about 4k delivery. you just upscale it and that is it. the only way to get a true 4k is by shooting on a 8k sensor like red. this way you'll get 5k even in anamorphic mode
Thanks,Hugo. And the other shot in the video ("3:25~4:11") choose ISO below 800? And another hand ,this whole video look so beautiful, like in the outdoor and at the beach..., which ISO did you use? still in Canon Log2?
What lut do you use or how do you grade? The standard Canon luts looks rerrible on my side, nothing like the internal 709 preview. I cant get satisfying results by hand grading the footage either.
Thank you for a great review - the atlas lenses renrered fantastic images, but what about of their sharpness? The image from orions looks much softer than from another ones. Some focusing mistakes or they are really soft?
they have two personalities: if you want a messy look then you open them up to T2 and you get it. and if you want a clean and nice look, you just keep them at T4. pretty much all anamorphics are gonna be softer and have more imperfections than spherical lenses. But imperfections of anamorphics is what usually attracts cinematographers
Thank you so much for this review and the useful information! I'm considering upgrading from a C300ii to C300iii but a few people I shoot with still have C300ii's - how close are the colors between the two cameras without having to color in post?
shouldn't be a problem a think. I didn't check it. But that's the beauty of canon, that their color science is so good, that they don't change much, and it's easy for us to color match cameras across the brand. but i'd rent it first, to check how does it work for you
Hugo Question if I don’t want to use the original monitor can I still connected to a small HD monitor and what cable what I need to still access the menu of the Canon C 300 ? Thanks
easy, I use 3rd party monitors all the time. thanks to navi buttons on the body you won't need to worry about navigating all menus without the original screen
I currently shoot on the R5 and have two RF lenses. I want my next investment to be a cinema camera. Do you think I should wait for the RF cinema camera or pick up a C200?
if RF lenses are only lenses you have, you won't be able to use C200.. and if you plan on investing in more RF glass then maybe yes, wait for a new cinema camera with RF mount
Great review, the C70 is looking better and better. Canon will likely to offer an RF-mount conversion for this camera as well, accepting the 0.71x focal reducer adapter, so the option will be there to bring it back up to a FF-like look.
I have a C500 MKII, it may be time for me to ditch adobe and move completely over to Final Cut.. premiere struggles horribly w/ RAW footage.. and transcoding and doing the extra work is not worth in my IMO.. slows down workflow..
I've had this camera for 2 years now and it hasn't skipped a bean, its a workhorse :) great video dude
Cool, thanks!

Recently bought c300 mk iii. Couldn’t find many videos about it. Thanks for this!
Glad I could help!
all your footage looks so good man! would love to see you do a video on your favorite lenses
Thanks! Will do!
Hey. Great video... what camera was used to record u on minute 6. and so on when u have the camera on ur hand. And what lenses. It looks amazing
Gerardo Gherman thanks. As it’s signed it was shot on c300 mark iii. For those shots of myself with camera was used sigma art 18-35
@@HugoWill amazing. Would u say c70 will get that same depth of colors? Evennit doesnt shoot raw but uses dgo?
I love the look of your footage - just beautiful! what a camera
Let's go!!! haha been waiting for this, wooh!!! thanks Hugo!
My pleasure!!
Amazing cinematography work man!
Thanks a ton!
This was bloody beautiful. Thanks for the video!
Brilliant review. Thank you!
Your footage is amazing too, great to see someone pushing the C300 MK iii in the real world. I think my mind is made up.
Thank you

Grading looks really nice especially in the woods, so details and colourful. Was process did you use? The canon lut?
thanks. I used rec709 lut as base and applied film emulation of stock 5219 with some tweaks
Hi,Hugo, nice shot. In the video(‘3:25~4:11’),did you shoot with Canon Log2 or Log3? And choose ISO800?
Only c-log2 since it’s has the most of DR. And iso is usually 800
Thanks,Hugo. And the other shot in the video ("3:25~4:11") choose ISO below 800?
And another hand ,this whole video look so beautiful, like in the outdoor and at the beach..., which ISO did you use? still in Canon Log2?
Thank you so much for doing this!! It was incredibly enlightening!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hugo! I love your videos. Can you please tell what lens, SS, aperture, FPS, did you use to get tha shot at 0:32 seconds? I love it so much
Thanks. C200 with sigma 18-35f1.8 in raw 60 FPS

Would love to hear your thoughts on the new canon c70 compared to the red komodo and c300mkiii!
C70 is a very exciting camera and delivers a lot for price. I'll definitely make a review about it if I get a chance to use it.
cant wait for the C70
Beautiful shots!
Thanks a lot!

I think it was crane 3s
Dgo is upto 60fps on c300 mark III
, not 30.
agree, my bad. Thanks. it just only works in normal mode and it doesn't in slow-motion mode
How's the rolling shutter tho? wish they had a faster readout.
Didn’t notice any problem with that. I think it’s pretty much like on red and Arri

Hello Hugo , are you by any chance from NY ?
sorry. no, I'm LA based
hey, wait, U said, that the image stabilisation dont work in RAW ?that makes the camera suddenly something else :)
yes, Image Stabilization won’t work in RAW.
What lenses you used
always different, depending on project
I have a C500 MKII, it may be time for me to ditch adobe and move completely over to Final Cut.. premiere struggles horribly w/ RAW footage.. and transcoding and doing the extra work is not worth in my IMO.. slows down workflow..
Honestly, I'd go straight away to Davinci resolve. I switched entirely and very happy. Highly recommended
I second that. If your problem with Adobe is the way it handles raw, then DaVinci is a no-Brainer.
Thought dgo works at 50/60p
yes it does only if you shoot it in normal mode. Once you switch to slow-motion mode it doesn't work
