If you notice the old man in the label and photo, his name is Kazuo Yamagishi. He is THE inventor of the dipping noodle and a very respectable person in Japan. Sad that he died in 2015.
Yamagishi san is a legend but didn’t invent tsukemen. They served at various Taishokens for years as a staff meal, he’s just the first to put it on the menu.

He and his staffs just use all the left over noodle and soup ( that was very concentrate since it was boil for a whole day) at the end of the day for supper. Eventually customer that come late at night saw that and ask that could they serve it to them. That's how Tsukemen start it journey on the Menus.

etatoby not true... buying tickets is just like buying any material possessions. TV are cheap around holiday season and superbowl. well there are cheap tickets to Tokyo during the right time. you can find tickets under $500.
Honestly Mike im a foodie myself and watch alot of others food channels etc.. but you make me hungry every time. I always order/cook the same food your eating and evaluating and play the video and watch makes it feel like your sitting across the table from me. All the best for the new year

I believe you, when I was in Chengdu China, I saw some of the skinniest, most anorexic looking young people ever and they routinely eat some of the oiliest cuisines that I have ever experienced. Yeah, a high metabolism has to be in there somewhere

I hate dipping noodles tbh, not because of the taste, it tastes good but having to dip my noodles in the soup is a pain, i want the noodles and ingrediants already in the broth when it gets to me
Yep, and for people who are not comfortable with chopstick like me, it's not a good experience, all the good taste was just shadowed but my clumsiness of using chopstick. And when I asked for a fork they look a bit offended. I mean, I cant help it.
Tet Noodles sitting in broth for too long can make both components taste strange. The firm noodle will turn itself into a soggy mess if you don’t eat it fast enough and the broth gets diluted. Dipping noodles solves both problem by making them separate/
@@ChauNyan Dipping noodles also tend to have a concentrated version of the broth that tends to bee a bit too salty to drink but makes the bite of noodles taste more flavorful than soup noodle.
My favorite is Tonkotsu ramen, also called Hakata ramen. It is made with pork bones that are cooked for many hours (sometimes 60 hours or more!) to create the broth. If you have never had the real thing before, you should definitely try it while you are in Japan!
If you like tonkotsu, you should go to the next level and try iekei style. Iekei is pretty much tonkotsu on steroid. Pork bones and bone marrows are cooked for hours, until it has a thick, almost gelatinous broth. The pork flavour is so intense, you can't really drink the soup. It's better if you order a side of rice and dunk it into the broth to finish the soup.
ziljin Oh geez, real ramen is packed with layers of flavor, is deep and rich, and most importantly, the noodles aren't mushy. If I eat instant ramen I doctor it up sooooo much it takes almost as long as if I just drove to a shop to order the real deal.

yea, NYC is just expensive naturally. Tokyo is not a expensive place to travel. katsudon, ramen, etc. you can find hearty, filling meals everywhere under $7...
professorM you can find good ramen cheaper in NYC, you have to find a small place. A lot of the bigger places you're paying for the "experience" of the glitz and glamor. Trust me, a small place is the way to go.
