I have a feeling an animated Doctor Who series will happen some day, it has a lot of creative potential that someone will take advantage of

I can imagine the intro song to this cartoon would have been "Doctorin The Tardis" 😁

The British animation studio the BBC were talking to was almost certainly Cosgrove Hall Films - they did Scream of the Shalka, The Infinite Quest and produced the animated reconstruction of The Invasion. Granted they didn't have the international clout of Nelvana or the success of those shows, but they had produced some of the most successful British animated shows of the Eighties. Plus working with a British company would have made things a lot easier for the BBC.

If anything they can still bring back the idea of a Doctor Who cartoon, just have to get the art style right. But imagine a Doctor Who movie with the art style of the Spiderverse movies.
Heck, you could turn some audio dramas into animated adventures and perhaps... dare I say it, crossovers with other series. Nothing big, but I know people online would pay have over fist for the Doctor meeting and help to facilitate meetings with series like Supernatural, Sherlock, etc.

If they did a cartoon series of Doctor Who I would have be interested on buying the toys they made. Also being a RUclipsr making my own Doctor Who series during the time when I made that big event where I round up all the RUclipsrs who played their own Doctors. I would have probably animated version of The Doctor and do my impression of Peter O'Toole for that Doctor.

Wish we got this, would have been a solid way to introduce newcomers to the franchise

Nelvana was behind some of my favourite cartoon shows growing up! From The Neverending Story, to Babar, to Rupert to The Adventures of Tintin, which I still watch on RUclips every now and than. The idea of them doing a Doctor Who animated show is certainly interesting to me. Fun to think about :)
Thanks for the great video! Keep up the great work :)

8:04 As bad as the rest of that version is, a Chameleon circuit that works would be cool for a Dr Who cartoon

I honestly feel that an animated series would have pulled in more numbers. But we got what we got. Maybe one day we might get one...but then again, in another universe it may have already happened.

I know that a lot of the gloss has come off of the live-action series due to its degeneration under Chibnall, but the fact of the matter is that the Doctor Who revival beginning with Christopher Eccleston and lasting through David Tenant and Matt Smith up to Peter Capaldi has given us some of the greatest British television of the past quarter century. I am so glad that was not ruined by the rights issues this series might have created.

I have seen killer trash-cans, instant death imbuing angel gargoyles, time-traveling phone booths and constantly flatulent alien skin-walkers… But this is easily some of the most ridiculous nonsense I have ever heard in the Whoiverse.

I think an animated series would be great but have it be focused on the Eight Doctor (also bringing back Paul McGann). Maybe have him cross pathes with other Doctors (the deceased actors getting played by soundalikes).

This sounds very similar to that Dr Who cartoon they tried to do in the late 70s early 80 with Hanna Barbera that flopped and got turned into the Happy Days Time Travel Cartoon. Bullet Dodged There!

I've been lucky to work with some of the crew from the last run of McCoy's time in the TARDIS (pre movie). They all had the same thing to say "The BBC were hell bent on sabotaging the series". The BBC cut the budgets, dictated story lines and would demean directors, writers, cast and crew on a regular basis.
In all honesty the animated series was doomed from day one as the BBC would have had NO intention of spending a penny on the show, expecting other companies to front the bill all the while the BBC would demand full control. The toy deal would, in effect, put two companies that wanted full control of the product against each other and this would work to the advantage of the BBC, giving them the opportunity to say to the fans (after pulling out of the project) "we really tried to get the series made but these over controlling Americans demanded full control and would have ruined the character".

I was not aware of this. I'm glad they didn't go this route, as it had alot of issues. I like the stories, specifically the first two, but I'm happy we still have Doctor WHO in live action. I can't believe it's turning 60, still looks good. This was cool to learn about

Nelvana Animation although started of with the animated segment of the Star Wars Holiday Special has managed to make amazing shows in general. Even though Nelvana Animation didn’t end up making the Doctor Who animated series, they went on to make a show that had another British pop culture icon & that was the poorly received Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go!

I would have loved to seen a Dr. Who animated series, eventually the BBC might have revived Dr. Who before 2005 if and only if the animated series was a huge success.
I wonder how Tyco would have designed a toy Tardis, would it have electronics for the iconic sound of it dematerializing and would it open up to show the console room as well as act as a storage case for your figures, but that is only speculation on my part.

It's probably for the best that this project never came to fruition. Honestly, with all the hands against it, I doubt it would've been very good and likely wouldn't have lasted very long. It's an interesting curiosity for sure, but I can't say that the franchise is worse off without it.
That said, I do hope that we'll actually get an animated Doctor Who series one day. Maybe now that they got that Disney money, the BBC will decide to take another stab at it (and it'll hopefully turn out better than their episode recreations and those two Tenth Doctor animated miniseries).

Animated cartoons don't go on forever. This series would have ended after a few seasons, and stunted the franchise even further by breaking the expectation of "the adventure continues". If the seris had happened, I don't think the 2005 revival would have happened.

Do a video on the cancelled James Bond vs Spectre TV shoe that was cancelled due to Kevin Mclory owning the rights to spectre and Blofield as he owned the rights to make thunderball into a film. It eventually became james bond jr.

Unfortunately Doctor Who is dead. Whoievians are sick of “The Message” being preached by their favorite Time Lord. Even the return of David Tennant didn’t save the show.
