In 2005 my home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, as were the homes of my friends and family. It’s obviously a very difficult thing to experience, and recovery is neither quick nor easy. However the supplies, manpower, and support coming to KY from all over the country are blessings that provide much-needed help and encouragement. I will never forget the many volunteers from throughout the USA who unselfishly gave their time and resources to my community when we were so broken.
Earlier today on my way to Cincinnati, I found my way winding through the mountains of Kentucky. Unbenounced to me I found myself right in the middle of all the flood devastation. I was aware of the flooding but not the specific area. Having just driven through the area in June on a move to western Virginia, it was vivid in my memory the beauty of the area. I remember seeing the narrow canyons with homes and wider areas with ranches full of goats and sheep. Most of it was gone. I was listening to the radio where their normal programming was not happening but rather announcing relief/water/clothing and food for the people hit by flood. As I continued my journey I come to areas where people were congregating. It seemed there was nowhere else to go. A church offering laundry services. Search and rescue camps. Billy Graham's relief busses parked with people gathered. What was so profound was seeing where the water had ripped through these areas sometimes 30' above the riverbed and not even the leaves were on the trees. Intertwined in the branches were pieces of houses, boats, cars...you name it was was there. It was just overwhelming.😭
Australia has also had 100 year floods this year. Unfortunately global warming will make these events worse and worse. I hope people help those affected out!
One witness said that there was a foot of water filling the house every 5 minutes! 26 reported dead so far… A family of 6 was on the roof when their entire house was swept away! They said on the news that they held onto the children and a tree for as long as they could but the fast moving water ended up ripping their 4 children from their arms! The news reports are catastrophic! Water pouring into apartments through the kitchen tiles, even backing up tubs and toilets, flooding homes until furniture ends up floating! Some houses have drained out leaving multiple feet of mud and debris, if the house is left at all!!!
Only thing I remember that City Hazard Kentucky. There is a Chevrolet dealership called Cardinal that burned down. That was right next to a river I never like Kentucky. It's unfortunate about the flooding but it's a place I would never want to live.
@@joeadler5379 Try Northern Ky just outside of Cincinnati Oh. It's part of the tri city connecting Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky. Alot of sites and fun things to do in the 3 states. Most people like it! Spent alot of time in Southern Ky . Small town outside of Barbourville and Corbin Ky where my family roots were. No places to work except Maxies Dress shop, school teaching , coal miners and a corset factory. Oh yeah my cousin had a Bed and Breakfast in (Barville) as we called it.
Good luck getting anything from FEMA. My hometown got flooded and its been over a year. People are still fighting to get money. What little money raised was either distributed to too many families to make an impact or was saved to rebuild roads. Supposedly theres still money set aside but nobody can get access to it.
Go where? With what? THESE people didn't steal the land. MAYBE they have ancestors that did. However, many in these parts are part native & know it. Did you?
& that's not to say I don't acknowledge the land was stolen. However, people cannot control where they're born & raised. Maybe don't put another sins on the backs of those that didn't commit them. Especially, when so many there are already destitute. You don't know these people. Most fled with the natives as they weren't welcome on the east coast, anyway. Why tf else would they move to Appalachia!?
You know nothing of this part of the nation do you? Doesn't sound like you've ever been there. At least they respect the natives. So many have great grandparents that were Native Americans. Learn more about these parts & American history before you make ignorant ass comments... convicting innocents.
I wonder if my ancestors felt that very same way when their and their children were separated from them and they being taken away from Africa their home to be made to work for free for Europeans for of 400 years looks like the Bible was right after all but I’m still praying for you all because that’s what the Lord asked me to do
That has nothing to do with these people. They're dirt poor & ALWAYS have been. A handful got lucky & could retain mineral rights to their land. Maybe 1 in a million? Slave owners wouldn't live here. Plain ass geography would tell ya that. I ain't saying what happened to your ancestors was right. It was & continues to be a horrific human rights/indignity tragedy. A nasty stain on our nation. We'll never live it down as a nation. How can we? But, to put this on them or imply it's justice or karma isn't just incorrect, it's hurtful. I understand your own history is hurtful. I'll never understand what it feels like, but I can try to sympathize. You should try, too. Not just bcuz God told ya to, neither. Edit: incomplete sentence. Otherwise, meant every word. Sorry you feel the need to compare the two hardships & tragedies. Your pain does NOT erase theirs & their babies. The ones that lived, anyway.
& do you blame all Europeans? You say you're a believer... surely you know we ain't all the same. (Couldn't be if we tried. Many did try.) & better never hear anyone call me an Anglo-Saxon. I happen to be "white." But I'm what you'd consider an "islander" & it sure as shit AIN'T BRITISH. People need to learn more about history & not just their own.

We can't say that can't happen here. Yes this can happen anywhere. We need to be prepared for anything. We just don't know. Stay safe everyone.
Thankful for all the help! 🙏
I pray my friends in KY are safe and far from this disaster and not loosing family and friends.
We are in dangerous times with the weather. It will just keep happening until no moisture can be held in a cloud. I feel so sorry for these people.
Bible prophecy?
I looked up the number of people that have flood insurance in that area. OMG. That made me sad. God bless you all. Find a safe place to be.
@@erasernose7 then I have no problem with our tax dollars going to help OUR people, who are in need!

Why did this happen
🤔 hummmm. I wonder if Senator Rand Paul will block FEMA Aid for these people?
This is a disaster. Hope they get the help they desperately need. Like, share 🙏
Sad
