Melike Kara | SCHIRN INTERVIEW

Die Künstlerin Melike Kara schafft Erinnerungsräume. Ausgehend von der Beschäftigung mit ihren familiären Wurzeln werfen ihre Installationen Fragen von Identität, Migration und Sichtbarkeit auf. Im SCHIRN INTERVIEW spricht sie über ihre Installation „shallow lakes“, ihr seit 2014 stetig wachsendes Archiv von Fotografien aus verschiedenen privaten Quellen und darüber, wie ihre Kunst den Wandel und Leerstellen in der spezifischen kulturellen Geschichte der kurdischen Diaspora abbilden kann.
The artist Melike Kara creates spaces of memory. Based on her preoccupation with her family roots, her installations raise questions of identity, migration and visibility. In the SCHIRN INTERVIEW, she talks about her installation "shallow lakes", her archive of photographs from various private sources, which has been growing steadily since 2014, and how her art can depict change and gaps in the specific cultural history of the Kurdish diaspora.
