Because we are supposed to figure out the world along with Klara, I think this kind of review would be something you want to watch AFTER reading the book. It's best to go into this book blind with no expectations at all.

I think you might try an early one, The Remains of the Day, and then a later one, The Buried Giant. Then read Klara and the Sun again. If that doesn't do it, Never Let Me Go. The gaps are not in the minor characters, but in the mysteries of Klara's growth to a soul, and the perfection from which she begins. It is heart-breaking.

I feel bad for anyone who didnt enjoy this book because they must have missed the beauty of it. Spoiler: Who thinks that the sun is god and that Klara's time in the barn was her praying? Do you think her prayers were answered? If so, is it because klara had that thing that is described as the human heart (not in the literal sense) that supposedly a machine could never have? Also, I saw that sacrificing the fluid to destroy the cootings machine was like a blood sacrifice. (serious spoiler about the ending) After all of this, I found the ending so unsettling, but almost like taking an older relative to an old folks home to die, or go through their "slow fade". I just finished this book half an hour ago and i have a lump in my throat.

A great review. I love this author and his are among my all time favourites. Klara and the Sun, in my view is a masterpiece, and i continue to think about the issues Kazuo develops long after the book has finished. (Like all those i have read by him)

Thank you for your comment. This is my first book by this author, but I'll certainly be checking out more of his work in the future. I was impressed by this work
