Government ‘getting the balance wrong’ with misinformation bill

Shadow Treasurer Angus Taylor says the Albanese government is “getting the balance wrong” in its fight against harmful online content.
Public submissions for the Albanese government’s misinformation bill will end on Monday.
The laws include a number of measures, including targeting false and misleading online content, as well as allowing the media watchdog to penalise social media.
“We believe in free speech,” Mr Taylor told Sky News Australia.
“This is getting the balance wrong.
“It’s giving enormous power to the minister; it’s giving enormous powers to ACMA.”
