fashion designer here; what you described as "lace" is actually called jacquard (french decorative fair isle-esque fabric woven with a jacquard loom), what you described as "layers of velvet on lace" is likely patches of faux fur (polyester) [or real fur idk] that have been felted (created by stabbing one fabric into another until homogenous [hours of stabbing]) onto the jacquard, and what you described as "gauze" is lace (though gauze is a type of lace so you get a pass). not sure about the snakeskin print, my guess is it's silkscreened from either genuine snakeskin or lasercut snakeskin. despite my condescending comment im very happy to have learned about Shohei Takamiya, his design philosophy is inspiring and awesome, keep making good content! :)
No offense taken! I need comments like these, many times I've been grateful to have my vocabulary whipped into shape by viewers. I record these without a script and in the moment, so I often speak kind of colloquially and in some cases wrong, haha. I take it as a positive that you at least understood what I meant at every point. I do have a question, though - is the jacquard fabric ever referred to as lace due to its lace pattern? I feel like I see that pretty regularly. In Shohei's writings to me he called it lace, for instance, but that could have been translation-related.
i commend your grace! i would never consider jacquard to be a lace fabric so i believe it’s a translation thing. my understanding of lace’s properties is its a semi-transparent knit made either by hand or by machine (leavers loom, lace machine, barmen, raschel warp, or straight stitch). it’s hard to make out in the video, but i think the jacquard pattern is woven in a brocade pattern, which is used to make qipaos and have two distinct patterns on each side so there’s no definite back or front of the fabric

Great video! I agree with you about personal safety concerns, especially when traveling, getting robbed on vacation is painful enough, but getting robbed with an authentic bag is even worse. To me, it makes sense to travel with a fake kislux bag and not carry any valuables that you would miss. Also, if your bag gets damaged by dust, stains, accidents, whatever it is, it doesn't matter even if it's fake.
