    Big improvement to the Blue.

So "glad" their putting money towards a football stadium instead of STEM faculty hires or research equipment purchases. This will really go a long way in attracting top research talent to the university. What a joke of a school

D1 Football programs draw in money to the school. Increasing revenue is good for the school in the long run. Boise State would be stupid to not capitalize on its football brand.

@@halfthe Draw in money to the athletic department or other departments in the school? After the Micron Center for Materials Research center was built, entire lab spaces sat completely devoid of any equipment that allow faculty to perform research. This is still the case for some spaces as of 1-2 years ago.
The increased spending in football comes at a time when a) certain STEM departments are in fact hemorrhaging faculty (Electrical Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, etc) b) basic infrastructure has yet to be provided by administration to avoid catastrophic lab equipment failure (and months to years of lost research time) and c) when this university STILL has yet to be classified as an R1 school.
In all my interactions with other researchers from other institutions, not one mentioned the formation of a collaboration with BSU due to football or any other tangentially related athletic program. In fact, it was the apparent 'football first' mentality that the school still maintains that caught the attention of these researchers over the actual research being done at the university. To be frank, it was embarrassing to see that BSU was and is more well known for plastic that's been painted blue over some cool work that is being done in STEM.
How does this school expect to one day compete with the likes of: UC Berkeley, Stanford, Northeastern, and MIT (to name a few) if more money and focus is spent on football (a mediocre one at that) over research facilities and faculty support?

Football pays for its own peojects; and Football keeps the entire Athletic Separtment afloat.
