  • This video shows my October 8th, 2017 bike ride of the Waterfront trail in Scarborough (Toronto). The video begins at the Highland Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant and ends at the mouth of the Rouge River.
In this video I am riding my Iowa Linear Recumbent Bike. I filmed this using a Contour Roam 2 camera mounted to the main frame tube of my bike at the front. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone. My speed and heart rate were tracked using a Garmin handheld GPS, and I used VIRB edit to overlay the gauges.
Please leave a comment and let me know what you thought of this video.
    Thanks for watching!

Thanks for another awesome video CJ. Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for running such a wonderful channel. I live in Toronto as well in the North York area and have wanted to get into regular biking and bike commuting to work for a long time now. Your videos have really inspired, educated, and instilled confidence in me to be able to bike all over the city. I'm happy to say that I've been biking to work and recreational biking on the weekends consistently for over a month now! On the weekends I've been trying the different bike routes and lanes that you feature in your videos. I tried your commute to work route this last thanksgiving and the Hogs hallow portion is really scenic but that hill was killer! I've been watching your videos every morning for breakfast and before I go to bed. I've been watching carefully how you handle traveling from different locations and learning that you don't need to ride on the super busy roads to get to your destination in an efficient time. On top of the great routes and scenery you show off, one of the great things about your videos is the fact that you really do a great job of being a "tour guide" and talking about not only the landmarks but also some brief history. After watching a video of you doing a route when I try it myself I get a little excited. Passing by the sugar factory got me a little giddy haha. Sorry for rambling but I really am grateful to you and can't express enough about how much I love your channel!

I truly appreciate all of your kind words. I'm really glad you're enjoying riding the streets and trails of Toronto including some of my favourite routes. If you ever see me out and about in the city, don't be stranger and come and say hello. I love chatting with other cyclists. Thanks for watching!

cjhoyle Yes for sure. It should be fairly easier to spot you with your recumbent!

Good Video. I usually go through Lt. Danforth Park, then I turn left onto that bridge you drove by. Anyway thanks for posting the video!

Great video, didn't know there was nuclear power plant on lake Ontario so close to city of Toronto. I hope that it is safe and not polluting the lake.
Thanks for the video, and continue to make simular videos, they are very interesting for me.
    Best regards from Serbia.

There is actually another plant further east (called Darlington) which is also on Lake Ontario. They tell us the plants are safe and clean, so of course we hope they are. Thanks for watching.

It might be interesting to note that the water that the CANDU nuclear plants output is far cleaner than the water that they pull in from the lake. This is because once they pull in the water, they clean it really well to be used to make steam to turn the turbines etc. The water going out of the plant not only has on radioactivity, but is actually cleaner! Just it is around 2-3C warmer than the lake water.
There are three CANDU nuclear plants in Ontario, Pickering, and further east is Darlington, both of which are on Lake Ontario. The other plant is on Lake Huron and the lake in the area close to the plant actually has fish year around due to the warmer water.

Hey Chris another cool video. Quick question how do you get your mms, and bpms. To show up on your video? Is it something you edit into to it or does the camera have inputs for that thanks

I use a Garmin GPS device to track my speed and heart rate, and then use a free program called 'Garmin VIRB edit' to overlay the gauges. More details are in the video description.
