    Great video, lovely to see you both highlight the positives (previously unreleased concept art and facts), and the negatives (misquotes, inconsistencies, and falsehoods).
    For a games as complex as RuneScape, and with such a long and complex history, mistakes are to be expected, especially when the author is biased in favor of Jagex, and seemingly not an RS player themselves. But it is great that you point these out, and make it clear that the book is not objective or infallible. :)

That’s what attracts me to the game and rswillmissit. But outside of all the game history and facts if you enjoy the game lore from quest point of view I’d highly recommend skilling to the higher lvls and getting that combat lvl up since the main end game quest lines are amazing. • @rswillmissit
      @rswillmissit  3 года назад +2

      In terms of content that's already there, I wouldn't change too much. It's very different to a timeline video considering it's made for people who don't play the game, too, so player achievements like first 99 etc wouldn't be worth bringing up.
      I would however definitely bring up the player perspective a lot more, which is the largest compliment the game has. Talk to famous players like Zezima, Rab and le me about what made the game so magical and their take on some of the large changes. But also how important the top ranking players were for others motivation and desire to play.
      I'd also include the updates I mentioned that I think were important to the game.
      And of course some of its darker history, because no games are perfect. Players tendency to riot in w66 is one, because of its player culture importance, how bugs shape a lot of the history of the game...
      Yeah, so mostly player related things :P

    That sounds like a really generous review. To me it sounds a little like jagex actively despise the playerbase, and the book is struggling to mask that whilst being unable to admit the positive things the playerbase has had on the game and everything around that. Sometimes by openly stealing all credit, sometimes by simply burying very important episodes and players. If the book reflects Jagex' views on the playerbase I don't think many will want to support the company by buying it. If it doesn't I don't think many even should be buying a "history" book reflecting that lazily on the subject matter.
    Of course that's ignoring the intentional propaganda and other significant problems. That alone ultimately turns an amazing idea into an incredibly mediocre one, even ignoring Jagex' view on players.

    To me the in-game riots and struggles Jagex has had with communication, is absolutely core to the history of Jagex and Runescape. Runescape is massively influenced by community interaction, more than most other mmo's. The riots are some of the most defining aspects of Runescape, even if they perhaps look bad to outsiders. (especially the gay pride riot... wtf)
    Not to mention, stories like the Rock Climbing boots fiasco or the drop potential glitch are in my opinion far more interesting and impactful to the history, than going over yet another quest.

    There should have been an article devoted to the top players.After all without the players there is no Runescape.How many players remember when the skill capes came out,players following those who had all capes,asking for the emote. Every player to reach top level in every skill should have been mentioned.Its a very good book but its let down by this issue.

    What, a writer for the guardian putting out propaganda? No, never... 😂😂😂

  • @ghostek7792
    @ghostek7792 2 года назад

    the thing is, the writer had fun learning about the game for the first time, but with that being said it's also going to be told as if the basic experience is the focus. alot of players i imagine would love more in depth content, because anyone buying this book most likely played this game for THOUSANDS of hours and already know everything like the back of their hand. also wtf where is the zezima chapter

    • @rswillmissit
      @rswillmissit  2 года назад +1

      Yeah, it's definitely a bit biased of me to review it after my experience with the game :P Just a shame tve way Alex portrays it is a bit... uneven to the truth

    If it was history book then it wouldnt be that one sided. This is 20 years of Runescape told (and heavily redacted) by Jagex. As others said better version would be the good and bad accurate book where you could read it again after 5-10 years and remember the times.

    • @A_Black_Sheep94
      @A_Black_Sheep94 2 года назад

      No one is going to publish something about their mistakes. History books don't do it, film books don't do it, business books don't do it. You're expecting something unfeasible. The book is exactly what it claims to be a yearbook of Runescape.

    For me It wasn't the price of the book because price becomes Irrelevant when what you're getting In return Is worth the Investment rather Irl or In-game but what threw me off Is the fact that It's written by someone who has never spent a single minute playing the game and trying to write about It. I do feel like If the book would've been wrote by let's say the Gower Brothers or anyone at all that's spent nearly their entire lives playing this game like many of us has It would've been a much, much better read. You can't write passionately about something you've never experienced yourself. It's a dead read for me.

    in 60.30 you say that it says against it self, it dosent, it says getting to 99 will take a long time, something they thougt player woud never do. lets say it takes 2000/h to get a 99 they dident think someone woud skill a skill for 2000/h.
