I've just come back from the Netherland's today to the UK. I certainly did not want to leave! I am so jealous of the amazing cycling infrastructure the Netherlands have there. Although I did'nt do any cycling as I was on a work trip but I did running during the evenings and saw it for myself. But no doubt I will return for a leisure activity such as this. Your videos provide brilliant ideas of how to lay out a cycling itinerary.

What a nice tour! You picked the best routes.
Just go north of Amsterdam, then east to Friesland and Groningen and you'll have a fantastic bike holiday, i think.

Hi guy, glad you came and experienced our country. Bit of a shame you only saw the flat parts as our country (believe it or not) does have hills to offer. You've now see pretty much most of the traditional fishing and old Dutch northern style of living.
Please next time around make sure to include provinces Gelderland and Limburg to your trip. Lots of history of WW2, forests , hills, and wonderful views. Flying to Eindhoven , do a nice trip and return from Maastricht should make things easier for you.
Really enjoyed the video. Hope your bum is okay from the saddle haha. Looked like a pretty firm ride they lend you.

I think the weather this year has been super wet so far and temperatures have been low. Not what we've been accustomed to in recent years.
A rooster is pronounced like roaster and is the same type of metal grill that you can find on the barbecue, but obviously not used for frying wildlife in this case. :) It's the Dutch word for grate/grid/grill, usually in the sense of exhaust/intake cover, but here it's a filter.

Dwingeloo, so beautifully. my mother is from there. She is called Lammy (Lammigje) which means little lamb. Very common name in Drenthe. When her parents moved to Arnhem (Gelderland, middle/eastern of the country) she was like 14 and the teacher introduced her as “Lammetje” in the class. Which is the litteral Dutch way to say small lamb. Everybody was crying off laughter and she was just embarrassed. It all came good for her, do not worry 😅

So many slugs is indeed bizar this year. This is mainly due to the very wet spring. It's a shame you have so much rain. A year ago things were completely different. Then we even had a heat wave. Unfortunately you were not lucky in terms of weather.

Hah.... joy... you pronounced Friesland correctly. My heads up last video was clearly not needed. There will always be a slight accent but I give you a 9.9/10 for that one.
There are a few RUclipsrs I know that are very interested in reacting to things in/about the Netherlands, would you mind if I suggest your biketour to them?
    2:32 acceptable mate, very acceptable.
8:36 Technically "Cattle grid" would be Vee Rooster. This would better be translated as "Game/wildlife grid".
As an avid cycler, I often bring something as lunch but I never thought about those energy thingies.. do they really work better than say my dextrose or grape sugar? (I am an old man, grape sugar was what we had when I started touring, there wasn't protein shakes or energy gels, you stick with what you know usually right?)
Language tip: If you see words ending on te (Like Drente) it usually is pronounced like "duh" but with a hard T instead of that d so basically Drentuh
12:46 wait... how the bleep are you already in Naarden. I went to school there for about 4 years. You are a fast cycler mate.
Great video, do come back. There is so much beautiful places. Thewoods and national parks in Utrecht, Brabant and Gelderland, the hills (and even a "mountain" in Limburg, The Delta works in Zeeland etc.

    • @guyconlon
      @guyconlon  5 месяцев назад

Absolutely - feel free to share the video with them.
Regarding snacks, to be honest anything with a high sugar content works just fine. Stick to what you know, it's personal preference :)
Useful language tips - thanks again!

      @@dimmerridder7377 Zeker weten....
"Dutchies" is an American derogative slur that somehow internet fools seem to accept as a compliment, apparently proud that they get a nickname of some sort to identify with on the web from such a prominent society that claims to lead the world. Very typical condescending behavior if you ask me of colonial supremacy of a time long gone. We are in all and every means superior, by far, not as a human (because all are equal) but as a nation, culture and society.
First, it is a word that does not exist in our own language and is basically a mistaken confusion of the word Deutsch. Why should we be called something that, by definition, we are not and cannot be by our own.
Secondly, look at all the one-liners and sayings in American English of anything Dutch. There are plenty and not 1 of them is positive. It is a belittling term, just like fatty, baldy or blacky. It is designed and used to appear sublime.

please, pleasy please, stop contrasting your video so much.
the unnatural colours make it so fakethat it hurts my eyes.
think of colours as a conversation.
softer colours are like people having a conversation
hard colours are like people screeming to each other
screeming draws a lot of atention but it gets irritating realy fast.
