    I have the utmost respect for Ben. A man who dug deep into his own pockets to keep the Union together. The Tory government fought him in the courts which just sums up this country. We need a new UK wide unionist party.

      @@gary637 100%, atm Reform is only party that fits the bill. The only thing thats really stopping it have any chance of achieving anything is people voting tory tribally or Reform just being too obscure for people who are largly outside of politics to know about.
      If it could nab some Tory MP's like UKIP did back in the day that would help but really it needs a few big names from the Tory right to defect which sadly probably wont happen.
      Its really the other smaller parties who are splitting the vote, not really sure at all why Reform and Reclaim for instance are still separate entities. I can understand why UKIP doesnt want to join in with the Party that killed it and smeared it a lot during the 2019 election, but really those two smaller parties will be splitting off at best 10s of thousands of votes across the whole country not really impactful ammounts.

    • @Candolad
      @Candolad Год назад

      @@drdeadred851There are many Tory MPs who want some kind of electoral reform, and they're the most likely to defect to the Reform Party. Ann Widdecombe is against Proportional Representation as are several others,however, they see the bigger picture of how First Past The Post has evolved into just two Centre ground parties which have both forgotten and ditched their core values.
      FPTP is not working and hasn't worked since 1997. Some element of proportionality is required to fix the system and the PR system most attractive to me is the Mixed Member Proportional system that was adopted by New Zealand in the mid-1990s.

      He’s on here talking about “sorting out Northern Ireland”, NI didn’t vote to leave the EU and it’s been dragged into this mess. You can’t just sort it out. It’s either a compromise from the UK and the EU (the framework), ROI joins the UK or it’s a United i Ireland. The Good Friday agreement doesn’t permit what he’s been proposing and that has been abundantly clear since before the vote…he and other ideologically minded brexiteers just didn’t want to accept that.

    Brexit has been demonstrated to be a significant drag on the economy. Frankly how could it not be? It has dramatically increased red tape for import/export situations. No one can doubt that as it is both evident and it is logical. The trade deals we have cannot replicate the size of deal we once had. There is no bonfire of regulations as it seems so many of them are essential. Since we have lost the access we had to the EU, the amount of foreign investment we had has slowed to a trickle.
    None of the above would be any different if Ben and Farage directly ran the nation.

We hear nothing about the unrest on media we hear nothing about “ populist “ parties making gains throughout the EU. The trouble is we've had two prime ministers (May and Sunak) that didnt want to leave the EU, one who wanted to leave (Truss) but only lasted 44 days for being incompetent and another who fought for brexit, but was clueless in implementing it (Boris). The Brexiteers blame everybody else, but their inability to do a deal that people were expecting.

    • @samhartford8677
      @samhartford8677 Год назад +1

      You are rewriting history. Sunak wrote essays about leaving the EU already at uni. He's one of the original Brexiteers and a true believer. Truss campaigned for Remain. Her Brexiteer credentials are the same as Boris': self-interest as in wanting to be the PM.
      The fundamental problem with Brexit is exactly what you said: Do a deal that people were expecting. It is quite infantile to be expecting others to give you what you want even if it would be against the others' interests. That is, it's not remainers or lack of true believers that has skippered Brexit. It's that the idea that negotiating as one against 27 meant holding all the cards. Brexit voters were the ones who gave all the UK's cards to the EU.
