I've been listening to BTBAM for a year now and listened to every album from start to finish and I realized I was never bored and I never said "This song sucks." to any of their songs. I think it's awesome that BTBAM puts out such amazing material. Anyone else thinks so?
I'm curious to know if this sentiment still holds true. BTBAM is still one of my favorite bands, but I haven't been able to get in to this new stuff after Coma Ecliptic. None of it hits like Colors, TGMD, or Parallax.
@@Crain1990 I got into them around parallax 2 era, right before coma ecliptic came out, I was a freshman in high school. I wasn’t able to get into the older stuff I thought it was too chaotic and thought the vocals were too harsh. I loved everything P2 and upwards even when automata came out I listened to that a ton and really loved it, still do. Now it’s been like 4-5 years and over the past year and a half my buddy told me to give colors another try and i fell in love with it. I’ve just been spamming their whole discog now for like a year straight because I feel like such a fool for sleeping on the older records so long. Not a bad release imo, everything they’ve put out is so fun and exciting to me. Also just caught em live back to back at Worcester and Hartford, some of the best shows I’ve ever been to. Long Live BTBAM! Colors II is phenomenal!
I've heard this song about a thousand times now, but it still brings a little tear to my eye right at the slide guitar section at the end of the song before the reprise. Amazing band.
@@TheDrewmainia my hope is that they do GMd live on their evening with tours, make it a double album, first record the 20 years set, second record great misdirect live, then maybe a B side with some of the qna questions from the evening with tours
The meter changes 132 times by my count. I've been learning this one on drums and have it all transcribed. That being said, the drums are almost note for note from the studio version. Pretty impressive.
@@apeman939 I'm in Brazil :[[[[[ Gladly they are coming here in March to play a double set. I hope they choose this song cuz it's my favorite from them.
I'm sorry but Blake and Dustie were members of Glass Casket, Paul was not :) And about the second singer... did you mean the guy that sang the first vocals? It's by Chuck Johnson
@jamma246 Ah, alright. Thanks for sharing all of that man, gonna save that and try to work from there to figure out time signatures. =D Greatly appreciated mate!
I know this song is long, bloated, drags a bit before the midway point, and has like 403 different sections.... but mother of god, this song is incredible. a true feast for the ears
@EMER1CA350 The jig is up. I like winding people up on You Tube when I'm bored. I love how needlessly passionate people are when it comes to a blue tag name giving an outlandish opinion. Well done for not being a crazy person. Oh and for the record they're my favorite band. Dusty and Paul are insanely good!!
Not any one, it is just too heavy. Tommy, when asked why he chooses to scream in BTBAM replied "Screaming is brootal, metal is brootal, BTBAM is a metal band." That being said, BTBAM defiantly put out my favorite Album this year and is in my top 5 bands right along with Cynic and Protest the Hero.
@RikkudoSennin Do you mean the very beginning- with the xylophone? That's just 4/4, just tap along. There's then a mishmash of time signatures, settles in at 12/8 at 0:49 and then you've got 7/4 at 1:27. I can't go through the whole thing, there are lots of time-signatures here and sometimes it may be open to interpretation where you start counting the bars etc. but there aren't any polyrhythms in here that I've noticed anyway.
@jamma246 Ah, alright. That's really interesting, I kinda am trying to learn to hear and pick up on all of this stuff. So it's really cool you shared that. And can you answer if the beginning is a polyrhythm? ;O
@RikkudoSennin Nah, they are just different time signatures. Polyrhythms are where you overlap two different time-signatures. They are quite odd sounding, and you don't really get them very often. I don't think I hear any in this song, but BTBAM are certainly one of the sort of bands that would use polyrhythms. I don't know many examples- I think there is a bit in 2+2=5 by radiohead which is a polyrythm, although it's difficult to tell.
Tommy Rogers. Also has a side project called Giles. Their bassist, Dan Briggs, has a couple side projects: Trioscapes and Orbs Blake and Dustie...maybe the other guitarist uh...Paul...we're in a band called Glass Casket a while back.
@dbergollo lol, just noticed that when you said it. obfuscation's racked up 4. but yes, it's very possible to not like it. i'd show you but it doesn't let me like/dislike my own videos.
Stage presence is an important part of the live show though. There's a difference between having a good stage presence and "flailing around" though. Luckily Tommy picks up the slack though, because (as has been said) it is pretty hard to play all that crazy stuff and also move around.
POVYRYVMS EVERYWHERE! lol jk. There's no polyrhythms just a lot of time changes. If you want polyrhythms, check out Meshuggah, Periphery or some After The Burial
clapping along to btbam never ends well
i was thinking the exact same thing
I tried it. I bled
I tried, one of my bones broke

it blows my mind that a band can play and remember an 18 minute song especially one like this
6:35 Gotta love that quick little drum solo :D
My favourite drummer of all time!
I've heard this song about a thousand times now, but it still brings a little tear to my eye right at the slide guitar section at the end of the song before the reprise. Amazing band.
9:54 Holy shit, I just totally lost it there. Best band ever.
I just came here to watch tommy attempt to do the keyboard solo. And for the Amazing music being played.
Look at Dan. He's all over the fucking place.
you know dan is a god if shrek comments about him
Him and Tommy are the only ones who can afford to have any stage presence lol
One of the best songs ever recorded by one of the best bands in the history of recorded music.
14:30 One of the best moments in their whole discography... chills!
BIG CHILLS!
Look into the picture!!!! Every time Thomas screams that line the world has the potential to explode.
This is the greatest and best song in the world...
...Tribute
Dude, one of the best bands I've ever known. I can die happen having heard this band. Thank you.
Man, I hope they release another really high quality DVD like they did with Colours. I loved that dvd, but TGM was by far my favourite album.
ONE OF THE BEST BANDS TO COME OUT OF NORTH CAROLINA!!!
One of the greatest bands of all time!
I know the music is hard to play I just wish they moved more live.
The* best band to come out of NC (opinion)
Tommy is flawless live. So ridiculously good.
What's wrong with them
How are they even able to do that
Musicality
Never understood why they didn't made a live album for The Great Misdirect...
Hopefully they’ll do something for its ten year anniversary

Still BTBAM's best song, it tells a story of human resolve turned to self destruction, gotta love it.
I never knew we could Swim to The Moon Live!!
*Silence*
"I love you Paul!!"
Blake is too good. I dream of being as good as him.
i remember i pick up silent circus and made my brother listen to it, needless to say he is still crying.
Dustie with that Mastodon shirt.
is extremely disgusting.
they're not dumb, they're just enjoying the epicness of BTBAM :)
18 mins of eargasm! What a great song!

Number 1 by btbam (in my opinion)
Unreal musicianship.

going to see them do 2 sets in 1 night soon where they will be doing music from all eras of the band, i need them to play this song holy hell.

You don't headband to BTBAM. You just appreciate.
Im happy im going to see them in October with Periphery and The Safety Fire! :)
i would KILL to see them play this song live
Chills.
Actually, he's the bassist in a band called Orbs with Dan Briggs... he was also BTBAM's merch guy on this tour.
Holy shit 11:50 tommy solo and 9:54 paul solo. That's musicality.
Great footage, dude.
Hahahahah! someone says, "so many people are stepping on my shoelaces" a little after the 00:34 mark.

Disappointed with the clean vocals on the first chorus :( But keyboards around 6:20 make up for it :)
This song should have replaced white walls as their must play years ago. It's a great outro song

Chuck Johnson, former merch guy. He sings the beginning part on the album, as well.
