- While Billy would sit in with Kingfish again in 1985, this appearance marks the only known time that Bob and Billy appeared in Kingfish together.
"The 1975 High Fidelity Music Festival slated for San Francisco will feature a host of performers in concert, with ticket prices the lowest anywhere. The Festival, hosted by the Institute of High Fidelity, runs April 3 through 5 at the Civic Center [sic] with its 7,000 - plus capacity auditorium located at 99 Grove Street. There will be four concerts, one each night and one on Saturday afternoon. On Thursday, April 3, Taj Mahal, noted Columbia recording artist, will kick off the Festival's entertainment with his self-styled blues music. He will be followed by Dizzy Gillespie, jazzman supreme, who will also receive the Artist of the Year Award that night. Concert begins at 9 p.m. On Friday, April 4, starting at 9 p.m., The Sensational Alex Harvey Band will bring its own unique brand of rock n' roll to the proceedings, to be followed by Styx, the hot Chicago based soul group with their hit single, "Lady." Aretha Franklin will be honored with the artist of the Year Award on Friday night. Saturday, afternoon, Kingfish provides the entertainment starting at 2 p.m. Kingfish, a new band, combines the talents of Bob Weir, rhythm, guitarist and vocalist of the Grateful Dead, and Dave Torbert, bass and vocalist of the New Riders of the Purple Sage, in new directions in progressive rock. Earl Scruggs will be honored as Artist of the Year Saturday afternoon."

I've been a huge fan since I first heard "livenkickin'" blasting out of an oceanfront cottage walking on my way to work one summer afternoon back in 1980. I HAD to know who it was- just walked right in to a house full of strangers and started freaking. they were stoked to see how stoked i was, about 2 months later found the livenkickin cassette in a bargain box and i have never stopped listening since. Robbie was a gifted player, he seemed to come out of the womb fully developed- the way he crafted his solo's, building his notes out of the muse with an end always in mind, never riffing, never showing off, just playing from the heart always. this music is one of a kind. the greatest R&Bsunshinerainbowcalisoaked juke music for all time. RIP dave and robbie
Terrific show, Robbie Hoddinott's playing is always a treat -- stellar slow blues slow on C.C. Rider. Shop Around is fun. Billy fills in capably, but it misses the snap of Chris Herold's experienced, crackling drumming.
Been looking for Kingfish/Shop Around for some while! Now looking or Mona. Saw them many times. Great fun.
Hat's off to Dave Torbert. One of the all-time greats
Kingfish …always tight and ready to rock the night!

KINGFISH!!! Groovy show, thank you!!!! Forever Grateful. I've always loved Dave Torbert - from the New Riders to Kingfish and everywhere in between. And Billy on drums!! Super cool :). NFA

GREAT DAY FOR THIS!👁✌
Thanks so much for this. Robbie Hoddinot was so great! Loved this band w/ him & Torbert....
I saw KF many times with and without Bobby. I ran into Robbie at an airport just after he quit the band. He just wanted to go fishing. I think the hard partying life had run its' course for him. I got to hang backstage once and i can confirm that it was crazy lit.
@@RockHoward what kinda fishing? Kingfish?
@@stevenwernli3933He mentioned a favorite lake but I don't know how serious he was about anything at that point. We didn't press him for details.
Thanks for posting this. Excellent audio. Brings back great memories. Saw Kingfish w Keith and Donna's band in Trenton and at the Tower that summer- and then just Kingfish at the nice little Roxy Theater in Northampton PA. Really good band and nice little venue. Those were the days. Found the stub while listening to this. The Trenton show was $5.50! Awesome! Thanks again for sharing.......
I was at both of those shows, too! Forgot all about them until I read your comment. Thanks!

Interplay on "Hypnotise" stunning.

Is this a Winterland show?
This band blows away the walking dead company on every level.
if you say so
@@seanhennessey9869 A solid Grateful Dead fan always graciously accepts any criticism without resorting to self degrading adolescent rancor or resentment, don't you agree?
@@namcat53 yeah, I agree....I don´t think I was rancorous, resentful or adolescent though, but yeah, fair enough...musically, Kingfish was more like a bar band than a Dead-like exploration vehicle and on this recording Kreutz was sitting in...I saw and enjoyed Kingfish several times back in the day and always thought they were a decent little band but not near the Dead..Dead and Co go a lot farther, I think, in spite of their sometimes maddeningly slow tempo and I see Dead and Co as more musically gifted...have a good one
@@seanhennessey9869 Remember, the Grateful Dead started out as a bar band. Kingfish could and did stretch out nicely on some tunes when I saw them. Cheers!
Fear The Walking Dead and Company!! 😁✌💨💨💨
