Kara didn't give up on Lena. She just realized that her approach (can't we go back?) wasn't working. She realized that the way out was THRU . . . and she was right. She and Lena went thru it, and came out (so to speak---patience, my lovelies!) the other side.
She never gave up on her but c'mon, Lena choose to work with lex over her knowing what lex is capable of... Lena turn her back way before Kara told her that, it was time for Kara to stop blaming herself for Lena's actions
No, like the others comments said, Kara didn't give up with Lena, she just realized that doesn't matter how many times she apologized, she tried to speak with Lena, she chose work with Lex, so Kara had to think Lena like other villain. Then, Lena realized that she did the things bad and apologies to Kara for that and Kara forgive her in the same episode.
I took a poll on Reddit, 400 people voted. 8 out of 400 people wanted William and Kara to be in a relationship while 193 out of 400 (the number with the highest votes)wanted to put Kara and Lena in a relationship. That should say something

There is 1 conversation during 5x13 that never happened but should have and i think the show really missed an opportunity by not having it. In 5x13 Kara needed another perspective so she chose a time frame where Mon El existed and her talking to him about what was going on to get his opinion. They should have had Kara choose a time frame where Lena would have listened and Kara could have told her weekday was happening. Who better to give advice about how to handle Lena than Lena. Imagine that convo, Kara tells Lena what's happening in real life, how they hurt each other. Lena tears in her eyes listens to all the ways she hurt Kara and vice versa looks deep into Kara's eyes and tells her "as long as you keep trying, I'll keep pushing you away" Kara blinks, confused, says "I'll never give up on you Lena, i promised to always be they're and i will". A soft smile comes over Lena as she grasps Kara’s hand, "i could never handle you thinking I'm a lost cause, I'll always try and prove you wrong. I'm not asking you to give up on me, I'm asking you to have faith that I'll always choose your side in the end". Kara looks at her, swallows slowly "so what, in supposed to tell you the truth, that i can't trust you anymore because you are so lost you see Lex as an ally? " Lena gets a smirk "Kara, if i chose Lex, it's because i know beyond any doubt that what I'm doing is wrong and o don't care what he thinks. I'll always care about what you think, It's why i most likely am keeping you away, shame makes me isolate ". Imagine if that conversation took place. It would still fit the show, keep it platonic, but add so many layers to what is happening.
