Nice piece of German history. Extremely rare outside Hungary, Poland and Croatia. East German people did not really want it as the wind of change blew their way in 1990.
What's interesting about the Wartburg 1.3 is that it actually had an EA111 engine by VW that the engineers somehow had to fit in in this car body which is almost the same like in the 60's. Very rare car nowadays, especially the station wagon (Tourist). My father still owns one. Good video, Joe!
My late grandfather had one exactly like this many years ago (except that it had the gear shift lever on the steering column and a fluffy, orange upholstery 😊) and he used to drove my grandmother and I to the village grandmother's kin! Such lovely memories from when I was only a small child! Greatings from Romania!
Absolutely love that metallic clonk of the door. Such a satisfying sound. It would be interesting if you drove that John Deere though. 😂😂. Greetings from Brighton in the uk.
My father used to have a 1.3 in "every metal door in industrial areas is painted this color" blue, before that he had a 353 that he used to race Ladas with and often ended up winning, because the 353 accelerated better than the Ladas, if the distance was longer the Ladas overtook him. He modified the 1.3 to have a push ignition.. because the cylinder broke and turning it to the starting position did nothing, so he wired up a button that worked as a replacement, put the cylinder into the second position and then the button worked. He bought a Suzuki Ignis sometime after 2010 and the used car dealership accepted the Wartburg for trade in and sold the Wartburg not even a month after that.
A ISTINA ŽIVA ja dovezao.
Fuel gauge - uses a series of LEDs rather than a needle. Similar design to the "econometer" used in some Trabants, where the coloured LEDs would light according to how heavy you are on the throttle.
@@kidjay2679 They completely stopped production in 1991 as both the overall concept of the car and the manufacturing facilities were very outdated and no one in Germany really wanted this car by then (introduction of the West German Mark in the former GDR meant prices for these things went up quite badly and people there were rather keen on used Western cars). I think the plant was sold to GM and Opel vehicles are produced there.

Ea111? Or ea827?
It has a different frame that's made for the transverse engine, also 100mm more track width
My father have Tourist)

Must have been the 2 stroke one !
Love this car. In hungary this was THE car with the trabant. Nostalgic. They are cheap as well, 100% good for a project car
What a classic! Thank you for making this video, Joe.
No i choinka wunderbaum , wszystko się zgadza. 😎
I could really see myself with a Wartburg 1.3 - it is still a very usable car, and has enough character to keep me happy!

Great car
Przyśpieszenie do 100 mierzone kalendarzem 😄
Wish they still made cars like this ❤
Great! Videos like this of the Wartburg 1.3 are rare. I own one myself.
Rozrząd napięty jak struna gwiżdże przepięknie.
A no i zmieniasz biegi o wiele za wcześnie, 2 od 60km/h, 3 od 90km/h i 4 przy 130km/h.
I like it when you start a video in this parking, back in it is a JohnDeere that clean the snow :))
Yo! A John Deere 6430! I saw that too! Absolutely love those tractors! We have a New Holland on our farm. Greetings from Brighton in the uk.
@willharris7614 eyooo...hope your New Holland is workin' great! I saw that JD cuz i use to repair them sometimes. Hugs from Romania!
Pamiętam poprzednia wersję no i ten zapach z rury wydechowej spalonego oleju z paliwem

Love these test. Can you drive the same car but with two stroke engine? Would be great!!. Good video Joe! 😉👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
In this model, there was only the four stroke engine with 58HP. But the predecessors all had two stroke engines.
@@j.m.w. thanks! i thought this model could have the two stroke engine
new Opel Astra from front reminds a bit on wartburg and even inside with that straight lines of interior&cockpit
👍🏻
Niebieska choinka, najlepsza 👍
Niebieska choinka jest naprawdę wyjątkowa! 😂😀 Trzymajmy się tego i jedźmy dalej! 🚗👍😂

Does the gearbox mumble "umf" after each shift?
❤️
Nice Car ^^ :)
Legal 👍🇧🇷👏👏👏
"0-100?" -"Yes!"
I LOVE the sound that the release bearing of your clutch provides ❤You´re driving somewhere around Katowice, right?

To lepsze niż Audi i VW
Ezek gyorsabb autók voltak, kb 18mp alatt futotta a 0-100 at.Magyarországon nagyok sok volt belőlük..🤭
paździoch byłby dumny
KATO!! 😁

What is that green thing in the 2nd gauge?

0-100? Tak.
Wartburg, the car that makes fart sounds when you shift.
Nice Wunder Baum
Ignition key on the left, like in a Porsche 911 🤔
German car too like Porsche

What watch are you wearing? 🤔
Swatch
this car with a diesel engine, would have been nice
Everything on that highway is faster than the Wartburg 😂
Skoda??
No, Wartburg.

Weight: 1410 Kg 🤔
Weight: 950 Kg corrected thanks 😎👍
szkoda że nie dwusuw
Mendowóz. 😁
Not a real Wartburg since the engine is 4 cylinder 4-stroke by VW and not the 3-cylinder 2-stroke with a steering column mounted shifter
It’s is get it. Right
