Excellent Lesson! You have an elegant presentation of content. And such a clear explanation. I was thinking about this and am very grateful that I can use this video to reinforce my studies.
Don’t know if this is on topic, but I recently realized that 4 of the most melodic notes of any chord are always in a diatonic line: the 7th, root, 9th, and 3rd are all diatonically adjacent or “chronological” maybe? What I’m saying is I feel as if I can land in an AREA rather than one note specifically, and once I’m in the melodic territory THEN I articulate the SPECIFIC sound I want like a 9th etc
Somebody beat me to it, but yes even though they're marked as 8th notes when you play with a swing feel they end up sounding a little "lopsided" which is deliberate.
I was wanting to watch this lesson, but I can't get over how your written music is not what you are actually playing. It is so misleading for people that want to learn. Have you considered the damage you are doing to musicians as students with you as a teacher? Seems irresponsible to me that if you can't keep a simple line that you play to match what your have on the staff. This will cause much confusion. Like why put a rest where there is no rest? At 2:30 I already decided that you are not a good teacher for me. Good luck, please don't lead people on the wrong path. Learned mistakes are the hardest to overcome.
@@dsg_studio please don't take count on this idiot... Frustrated people that doesn't have any minimal idea. EVERY jazz music book has the even 8th notation, assuming that you are not idiot.
@@AndoniDiazPuerta I appreciate that! Don't worry, I don't. This guy just has a stick up his butt for some reason. I think it's funny when guys like him get in my comments because despite all their anger, they're helping my engagement hahaha!
Great lesson! Thanks David.

Great application! I've been holding on this for long, wondering how to iterate from the basic concept. Thank you!

Exactly!

This is not a swing feel.
It is just bad notation.
@Scratch1980 lol ok buddy. I'll tell every professional arranger and composer I've ever worked with that they don't know what they're doing 👍
