For what it is worth, I did enjoy this episode. Indian MCU fans like me, seem to enjoy the show, the cultural references etc. But you were right, the politics are a bit annoying.
I think the rescue did not work because Kamala started fantasizing about the fame she will get.
Also the Kingo stuff is a reference to families containing generations of actors. So that did get a good chuckle outta me.

I don’t. It’s an amazing show and EVERYONE gave their all. The scene in the pilot where Bruce Wayne described what happened to him as a child which led him to become Batman (the only time that’s ever mentioned in the entire run of the show) was done with such gravitas and irony free. Adam West sold the internal pain Bruce feels when he dons the cape and cowl.

@@alarin612 Calling her Ms Marvel never made sense anyway. She doesnt have ANY powers similar to Ms. Marvel (Carol Danvers).
The only reason Monica Rambeau took the name of Captain Marvel in the comics in 1982 was because she was a literal Captain in her police force and the public started calling her that after she accidentally acquired super powers from running into a secret container at a shipyard chasing criminals that enabl;ed her with said powers because her powers reminded them of Captain Marvel (Ma'Vell) who had just died from Cancer. And Monica then tried to reject the name but the Thing said nah keep it "I'm sure Mar'Vell wouldnt have mind".
Then Monica gave up the title to Mar'Vell's son when he arrived later on Earth. Then the name got passed down a few more times until Ms Marvel in 2012 (after Disney bought Marvel go figure) decided to take the title and stop using the name Ms Marvel.
Then a year later Marvel comics hired Sana Amanat, a Pakistani woman from Jersey from an affluent family, who had just come off a job at a comic book company that went bankrupt (talk about failing upwards) and was given a high position at Marvel with little experience and then decided to co-create a self-insert character (Kamala Khan) and they had no name for her so they decided on Ms. Marvel because what better idea for diversity identity to have than a minority girl looking up to a superior white woman?
And then of course the Captain Marvel comics did so well (er no they didnt they were doing terribly and had to be rebooted like 6 or 7 times), Ms Marvel initially got praised but then eventually her comics too started failing, and then someone at Marvel saw a 2008 Japanese porn parody of Iron Man called Ironheart and decided to steal the name and suit design and repurpose it to their own character some time around 2016 and all were set up to eventually be shoehorned into the MCU along with Kate Bishop, Echo, America Chavez, and 2014's reintroduction of Jane Foster Mighty Thor from the Thor comics/
Not to mention using the 2016 reboot version of Shang Chi who now has a sister who is the bestest at everythign self taiught martial arts master but in the MCU, they depowered Shang Chi since he no longer has mastery of Chi where he can literally dodge bullets like in the comics no he's just really good at martial arts thats it and he acquires the ten rings which are also nerfed from the comics oh and his sister beats him in a fight and takes over the 10 Rings society goddamn it Marvel

Thiis is the same guy (bearded DODC interrogator) that interrogatted Peter Parker rudely in No Way Home. Problem is they cant have him say "Spider-Man" because of Sony legalities. Notice how Spider-Man was completely missing from the intro recap of Infinity War/Endgame stuff Kamala was narrating as well as not being shown in any capacity at Avengers-Con?
lmao you'd think a superhero from Queens NY which is literally just a hop and a skip over from Jersey City would be a local town idol hero but no he is not mentioned at all.
Anyways, he was acting oddly rude to Peter in No Way Home and remember how Peter got tricked in Far From Home by Mysterio and also Skrulls were impersonatiing Shield agents because they had to fill the roles of Nick Fury who was busy up in Space building some base or whatever?
So I think theyre either Skrulls or Kree or they work for Mysterio and he didnt actualy die
(or maybe he did die but is still alive variant wise)
.Notice the green tint droids they used? Mysterio used drones too..and the Kree had green tint technology.
If its Mysterio, maybe that might explain how he 'died' and there still is a Mysterio; because maybe there is a second Mysterio who is a Time Variant and the two worked together to create better illusions.
This would also explain why Mysterio used the idea of a Multiverse to trick Peter. Because Far From Home took place 9 months after Endgame and Loki took place right after AND before Endgame (because time moves weirdly in the TVA) so Sylvie killing He Who Remains at the end of Loki show unlocked the Multiverse.
This is why Wanda started getting those dreams/nightmares of having two sons which prompted her to create the Hex in Wandavision and later go full psycho in Dr. Strange 2 because Wandavisision took place 3 weeks after Endgame so it took place after the Multiverse was unlocked; which then unlocked people's abilitiy to dream of their variants in other worlds.
Also remember how the Skrulls were kinda clueless about human sociology and phrases in Captain Marvel as well as FFH? So the DODC woman saying "Latinx" could be a hint to that; trying to blend in forefully with current sociological wordage and norms but not fully knowing how to. So could be either a Skrull or a Kree trying to fit in.
The Kree would make sense since they want to tie Ms Marvel eventually to Captain Marvel 2 movie ("The Marvels") and the last time we saw Monica Rambeau (who will also be in "the Marvels) was at the end of Wandavision where her 'friend' ended up being a Skrull who mentioned to her that Nick Fury from Shield up in Space wants to work with her and we stil dont know what the upcoming Secret Invasion show is all about yet.

    • @TheRealNormanBates
      @TheRealNormanBates 2 года назад

@@budgiecat9039 hmm, that’s a very good explanation, as Dr. Strange using the Time Stone to see which future allows them to defeat Thanos in *Infinity War* would be after Loki broke the singularity. I’m assuming that the TVA is destroyed some (heh heh) “time” after the first *Avengers* movie.
PS: I don’t think Mysterio is dead, as that last shot focuses pretty close on Jake Ghyllenhall’s face/eyes pretty closely, and how much CGI money would it take to show his pupils dilate?

    • @budgiecat9039
      @budgiecat9039 2 года назад +1

@@TheRealNormanBates One obvious thing I forgot to mention: why DID they bring in the same DODC actor from Spider-Man No Way Home into this show? Isnt that odd? Like I said, he is from the DODC which is not even FBI related, and in this episode, he acted kinda nervous about the FBI when he was speaking to his partenr.
So why did the DODC even interrogate Peter Parker? And like I said, so rudely; like they had a vested interest in Mysterio's death.
I dont think they just hired that character/actor to reprise his weird role from NWH in this show just because "he's an Iranian actor so we wanted to hire all Muslim related actors for this show to push the inclusivity and diversisty angle'" - because if thats the only reason, then thats stupid.
There has to be more to it than that.
That dude was acting strange in NWH and he's acting strange here again in Ms Marvel..
And like I said, Skrulls and Kree act weird but then again so do Mysterio's agents
Something isnt right about him but we'll see I guess

My biggest gripe is the production. All MCU films and shows are filmed in Atlanta but they usually do a pretty good job hiding that fact by making the sets look like NYC or California or even other countries. But Ms. Marvel barely hides it. In episode 2 there is a clear shot of one of the most famous hospitals in Atlanta right behind what is supposed to be the parking lot for her school. Which for some reason they don't use the exterior of the actual school they film the exterior in. Hell, most of the time they don't even bother to change the names of the street signs. Be on the lookout for Peachtree.

My biggest problem with Miss Marvel was never her powers, Race, gender or religion. It's that she has no main villain or rouges gallery. Usually she just fights random thugs or giant monsters the only time she seems to fight Marvel villains is when she's teamed up with the Avengers or Champions. If you want to make a great hero you need to give them great compelling or threating villains to show off what a great hero they can be. That's why I've been hesitant to watch this show, cause it never advertised a main antagonist and it looks like its just going to be some rando one dimensional government agents which is just lame

Disney: "With this show we can 'fix' Muslim gender inequality and outdated cultural norms!'
Also Disney: "Lets totally film Mulan next to Chinese Muslim slave camps"
Also Ramadan is during the lunar cycle so it varies when it wil be year to year so I looked up when Ramadan will be in the year 2025 (which this story takes place after the end events of Avengers Endgame which took place in October of 2023, 5 years after the Snap in Infinity war of 2018 and after the events of Hawkeye which was Christmas of 2024), and Ramadan, (where you fast for a month) in 2025 will start from Friday February 28th to Sunday March 30th.
We know that Muslims celebrate two Eid's ("feasts" or "festivals") during the year.
So the first one, Eid Al-Fitr (aka :Festival of Breaking the Fast of Ramadan"), which is celebrated after Ramadan, would be in after the end of March 30th (2025) which would explain why Kamran can go divebombing into that girls swimming pool without freezing to death but at the same time we've seen Kamala, Bruno, and everyone else kinda walking around with semi Winter clothes still on in Jersey City upper east coast of America. Also when Kamala is working out with Bruno at the park, there are no spring leaves on the trees yet.
My only problem with this is that right in the beginning of episode 2 we see Kamala and her Muslim friend both eating lunch at their high school.
Muslims taking part in Ramadan do not eat or drink anything during daylight hours, eating one meal (the '' or 'sehri') just before dawn and another (the 'iftar') after sunset.
We know it should not the second Eid, aka
We also know its early 2025 because they stop at a food truck with a “March 14th, 2025” date on one of the documents the owner has on display. That’s the last time the food truck received a mobile sanitation grade. Next to it, there’s also a food vendor permit for 2024 and 2025.
The sanitation grade date is the more important one. It tells us that the events in this episode of occur after mid-March 2025.
But then also in episode 2, Kamala asks Bruno if he'd like to come to Eid with her and her family since her mom asked, and he said "Eid again?" and Kamala answers with "Yeah the lesser one" which would then indicate that "the lesser one" that Bruno says "Eid again?" would be Eid Al Adha, which as I said is in June and is only a day (aka 'the lesser one'since Eid Al Fitr last 3 days) but then that would mean this is in June and going by the wardrobe and the weather that makes no sense.
This is really odd the writers and director messed this up considering the producer (Sana Amanat, co-creator of Ms Marvcel in the comicsc) is Pakistani and the directors are Adil El Arbi, Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Meera Menon.
So Marvel went out of their way to hire people of similar cultural and ethnic background as the main character but they couldnt even get the dates of events of the religion and their cusytoms right lol

It has a really bad reputation, partly I think because it was such a massive shift from Avatar. Had it been independent of Avatar it probably still would have had critics, but not been quite as badly received. Well, the rather sudden shift to Korra being romantically involved with Asami... That was just odd. (I went into it knowing there was controversy about a lesbian relationship, but not knowing who other than Korra, and up until the very end I expected her to get together with Kuvira as they had more chemistry even when enemies than she did with anyone else. I keep seeing on line claims that there were earlier hints at the Asami thing, but I didn't see it.) So... I don't think it is as bad as the reputation, but I also saw it LONG after watching Avatar so it may have made for less of a shocking transition between the two. I saw it as relatively harmless.

I didn’t watch the episode (haven’t had Disney+ for over a year now), yet if what you’re relaying about the political stuff is true … this is pretty sickening.
Marketing a show in the basis of Representation and then turning around to bash the demographic you claim to care about is exploitative and malicious. I had this same gut reaction when I watched the Prey trailer. For all the talk about honoring and respecting the indigenous peoples of the Americas in recent years, the creators of that film put attacking their gender norms front and center. Now these creators are doing the same thing with Islam.
I’m not saying that a work can’t analyze or make commentary (including criticism) upon culture. Storytelling, if done well, is a great way to do this. I also think that it’s not unreasonable for diverse groups of people to agree on some issues and then criticize one another once the unifying factor is removed. We all have different values and want to stand up for those values.
What bothers me is just how blatant the hypocrisy is here. If Representation extends beyond genetic and psychological factors to culture, then differences of perspective should be included. Culture shouldn’t be treated as just another IP to be exploited to give a story value and then subverted in that same story. This show is already a repeat of Disney Star Wars, Bad Robot Star Trek, Amazon’s Rings of Power, Netflix’s Masters of the Universe … only now, rather than simply spitting on devoted customers who can start spending money on other IPs, they are exploiting and then lashing out at the culture and identity that fundamentally defines the lives of countless millions of people. It is a fundamentally twisted (one might even say “intolerant”) act.
If they wanted to tell a story about a modern Muslim girl whose values clashed with tradition, then they should have marketed it as such and dropped any pretense of this being about Representation. If they wanted to do Representation and fighting against anti-Islam prejudice, then I think they could have acknowledged the separation issue in passing, but it shouldn’t have gotten this type of focus. Doing both just makes the show pass judgment upon itself.
Also, nitpick: I have no idea how such councils work in Americans mosques, but if they are anything like a parish council in a Catholic Church, I’m doubting that the friend would achieve anything even if she did somehow win the election. Parish councils do things like manage the budget, organize community outreach programs, and generally smooth out the little details so the clergy can focus on religious duties; they don’t have any say over theology, doctrine, tradition, or rites. I suppose that maybe the friend could then allocate budget to remodel the women’s side of the mosque, but I’m doubting she’d be able to wrestle even that budget for that away from more veteran council members. The money would need to be pulled from some other program, after all.

@@nutbunny10 In nearly two-thirds of American mosques, women pray behind partitions or in separate areas, not in the main prayer hall; some mosques do not admit women at all due to the "lack of space" and the fact that some prayers, such as the Friday Jumuʻah, are mandatory for men but optional for women.
The first comprehensive Mosque university in history, for example, was Al Azher in Cairo, Egypt. Since its founding more than 1,000 years ago, students have learned about the physical sciences, social sciences, mathematics and medicine, alongside their core religious subjects.
Unfortunately, with the passage of centuries and other historical disruptions, many Muslim congregations became disconnected from their mosques as focal points of community life. Gradually, some mosques lost their holistic function and became places reserved only for worship; and wherever this was allowed to happen, Muslims inevitably suffered.
At the time of the Prophet, and during the period of the first four Khalifs, women were full participants in the life of their local Mosques. Many women at that time routinely performed their five daily prayers, the Friday Juma prayer, Ramadan Taraweeh prayers and Eid prayers, as part of their mosque congregation. They also took on full roles in educating and defending their communities. Many were teachers, nurses, business professionals, community leaders and political activists.
But today in North America, the physical space available to women in our mosques is all too often symbolic of the ground they have lost through the neglect of history. This physical space can be one of five types:
      1. No space is allocated for women at all.
      2. The women's space is made completely separate from that allocated for men, either in a separate room, on a second-level mezzanine, or in the basement.
3.The women's space is partially enclosed through the use of a movable partition.
4.Women share a space equal in area and parallel to that allocated for the men, but without any physical barriers between them.
      5. Women occupy space at the rear which is equal to that of the men, also without any physical separation between their areas.
Advocates of the "no-women" mosque argue that females are better off worshipping at home. They base this argument on a single Hadith, narrated by Ibn Khazema, that the Prophet said the prayer a woman makes at home is better than one she makes at the Mosque. But that Hadith was rejected as Gha'reeb (invalid), because it contradicts actual practice during the time of the Prophet and the first four Khalifs when, in fact, women attended Mosque services without restriction or opposition.
The other four types of Mosques do try to offer women a specific place, keeping in mind a recorded practice during the time of the Prophet, when a cluster of men, followed by clusters of children and women, would come to worship as a congregation with him.
It should be noted that at the time of the Prophet, there were no physical barriers at all between men and women within the mosques. Even today, at Mecca's most sacred Mosque, groups of women and men can join together in congregational prayers, just as they have since the time of the Prophet.
When I had to take a class in college of Religions of the World, the term paper had to have us do research at a local religious place, Church, Synogogue Mosque etc.
I had a vacation planned with my mom to go to Dubai so I told the teacher I was going there for a week and asked if I could do my paper based on going one of the mosques there and he said sure and I went to one of the biggest ones there and women were permitted in there though in the prayer sections they have partitions.
      Why a Partition?
Among the objectives of the Sunnah are upholding modesty, discouraging unnecessary gender mixing, and creating an environment conducive to engaging with one’s Lord. A proper partition is conducive to fulfilling these objectives and brings other benefits as well:
1.Women do not have to mind their gazes or avoid the gazes of men.
2.Anyone who works or studies in a mixed environment is aware that segregation of genders allows greater focus.
3.Breast-feeding, changing clothing, and other preparations for prayer are easier.
4.Women may focus on their worship without diverting their attention towards maintaining proper hijab.
5.Women can remain in the masjid engaged in dhikr, recitation of Qur’an and learning.
      fyi I am not Muslim
I was trying to figure out what building they used for the Mosque but I couldnt com up with any in Jersey City that resembled it. What I did find that the indoor scenes were filmed at the Islamic Institute of Atlanta, in Atlanta Georgia, and unlike the scene in episode 2, there are no partitions inside that mosque.

That is what it is and what it's mean for. Just like you can't really show Deadpool to parents of 8 year olds and expect them to react positively if you tell them it's for their child.

To anybody that cares, the festival of Eid is a month-long fasting ritual where the people try to go from Sun up until sundown without food and water, only breaking the rules if it's detrimental to their health. It's a way of showing respect and understanding to the less fortunate who have no food. Or at least this is how it was explained to me by my Muslim co-worker.

so why in this episode, Kamala' tells Bruno its the "lesser one" when Bruno said "Eid again?".
There's two Eid's during the year for Muslims. First one is the festival of the break of the fast, which lasts 3 days and the second one comes later in the year as the festival of sacrifice which last only a day. The first one is usually in late Winter /early Spring and the second one is usually early Summer.
Not to mention if its the first Eid, in this episode alone, before the Eid, Kamala is eating during the day with Nakia at school lunch and with Kamran at a diner after her driving lesson with him.

@@wonanzal4030 You didnt read what I said though I said Kamala's mom invited Bruno to Eid and Bruno said to Kamala "Eid..again?" and she said "yeah its the lesser one".
Why would Bruno say "Eid again?" and why would Kamala answer him with "yeah, the lesser one"?
Because there are two Eid's celebrated during the year.
The first one is the 3 day feast that celebrates the end of the month long ritual (Ramadhan), Eid Al-Fitr.
The 2nd one, Eid al-Adha is the latter of the two official holidays which are celebrated within Islam. It honors the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail as an act of obedience to Allah's command. It lasts 1 day. (hence the "lesser one")
They usually differ by three months apart from one another,, the first one taking place usually between Feb and March or March to April depending on the Lunar cycle, and the other usually around June, hence him saying "Eid again?"
It wouldnt make sense for Bruno to say "Eid again? if he was talking about Eid al-Adha of 2024 (June) and then 9 months later Eid Al Fitr (festival of breaking fast) happens at end of March 2025. Thats a too long a gap for him to say that.
It would make more sense for him to say that when theres a lesser month gap.
Plus like I said, Kamala said "the lesser one".
Only my gripe with it is if it indeed is supposed to be Eid Al-Adha ("festival of sacrifice") the scene of the show is shot to look like end of Winter early Spring, as everyone is still wearig Winter clothes, which if it is end of Winter/early Spring, would not be the 2nd Eid then (which is during Summer) and thus would indicate the first Eid aka Eid Al Fitr; but the first one contradicts what Bruno and Kamala said,
AND Kamala and Nakia are shown eating after dawn at school, as well as Kamala and Kamran ordering food at a diner during the mid day, all before Eid, al Fitr which means they are breaking Ramadan rules by not fasting since you are only allowed to eat at early dawn and at sunset for that month until the three day festival of Eid Al-Fitr.
But the Halal food truck guy's truck had a document on it that says March 2025
So its not done right in either Eid. Sloppy work by Marvel.

Then again, considering the politics and behavior of the writers, I wouldn't be surprised if their local mosque was utterly squalid because of narcissistic "muslim in name only" trend-chasers who leave the place in filth and every last one of them expects someone else to clean it up.

@@Vherstinae The show filmed the inside Mosque scenes at the Islam mosque of Atlanta Georgia; I looked up the mosque to see the comparisons and it tracks; the inside of the praying room is just like the show.
I noticed in the mosque's website shots there's no partitions though. They are either movable or they dont exist. So the show could have created partitions for the scene. There are mosques in the U.S. and Canada that do not have partitions at all.
The bathroom though? That was a different area they filmed altogether.
I'm curious why they chose to go all the way down to Atlanta Georgia to film a mosque scene thats supposed to take place in Jersey City right next to NY. Maybe its cheaper to film in Atlanta than NY? Or I also noticed when I googled up the Mosque, it said "permantently closed" on the Google info page. but on the website they're still advertising upcoming Mosque events so clearly something is off.
Perhaps they were closed for some time and that was the right available time for Marvel to film on location in 2020 during the pandemic with the lockdowns in addition to maybe being cheaper to film there.
And the outside shot of the mosque I have no idea what that was I looked up all 10 or 11 Mosques in Jersey City none of them look like that so either it was a combination of several buildings put together by SFX, or some other building thats not actually a mosque.

Remember the good old days, when the only real allusions to a character's religious beliefs where wearing a Crucifix, or a Star of David, or maybe walking out of a church at the beginning of a scene?
Now look at this. The show runners feel the need to highlight aspects of the Muslim religion, as if showing how in-depth their knowledge is... But then they feel the need to give it a hesitant slap over the nose by pointing out a "backwards" aspect of it.
It's like saying, "Look, this religion is cool. It's just like any other religion. Sure it's got some dippy fundamentals, but if we apply a little shame, we can change it. It's totally not going to backfire on us. Surely."
