Man, I simply love how modest and genuine you are. No bragging, even admitting the things you feel like you need to approve on, it adorns you. And the calm and understandable way of explaining things makes it all even more pleasant to watch. So, by all means, keep the videos coming and I'll make sure that I keep sharing them with friends and colleagues!
Thanks so much. It really means alot. Late response here haha sorry!
Not a problem! I keep coming back to this video every now and then so I still stand by what I said earlier :)
The gradient map technique was amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Glad you liked it! Thanks :)
Man, your art is amazing. And letting people in to look at your process is a great help for aspiring artists. Thank you very much for sharing your work.
You also have some fine taste in music. An absolute artist 👍
Thank you so much 😀 I'm really glad to hear this, I want to encourage as many people as I can to keep pushing forward with art despite any scary "ai" talk and negativity surrounding the industry at the moment.
When someone shows the whole prosses of his great work, not just showing off, I never skip the commercial. Thats i pay a great work like this one. And a liked also.
This is, as always, absolutely gold. I've watched your previous tutorials several times and I always learn something new. The whole process, your tips and tricks and your comments are just too valuable. Thanks for sharing.
I agree - golden nuggets here!
Yeeh another video ! Thank's a lot Grady for the process ! It's really great to see realtime illustration
Thanks! It has been a while for sure, but I'll definitely try to do some realtime stuff on a more regular basis :)
Love it! I just hope you keep doing videos like that, with tips and technics. You just save my life with every single one. Love the way you explained it too!
I will, thanks for the kind words :D
This is awesome!! please do more real-time
Thanks! I certainly will :)
@@gradyfrederickart How much real time?
I watched every single videos of yours in just a couple of days. Just wanna say a huge thanks for all the great tips and tricks that you're sharing. That's sincerely extremely helpful to watch. I can finally say that I understand some concepts that I struggled with for years. Thank you so much, you are a really good teacher (and artist in general) !
Definitely a fan of real-time, especially during the initial crucial phase. also as an artist I’m always interested in hearing the thought process and workflow. I learned a lot of useful technical tips for photoshop software too. Thank you.
This video format was great! Chill, but also full of information.
Yes please do more of these! It's amazing to see the internal process and ways of working/thinking. It's far more insightful this way. I look forward to more (no pressure)
One piece of advice. I think it'd great if you showed the final piece at the very end (fade out or wateva) - I was really looking forward to seeing it across my screen to enjoy the details and the effort you put in. Just an idea
this video couldn't have came at a better time. I'm working on a Zelda fan project on my channel and I've been trying to get into environmental art because I want to try and show off locations to the best of my ability plus I just really love landscapes so I've definitely learned alot just from watching this video. Even applying these techniques to the other things that I draw. You made me realize that value's are insanely important and something I should constantly keep in check!
Finally more videos!
Your style is beautiful.
Awesome process and tutorial, I love hearing passionate people learning through teaching and just doing some art shenanigans. Keep up the great work gamer :3
thank you so much for this, your videos are really helpful and wonderfully transparent, plus your painting is beautiful and it's really nice to hear the thought process behind the decisions. please make more like this!!
Thank you so much for your videos! It's very interesting to listen about your thought process live
Amazing Grady ! Thanks for doing those :D !
Thank you so much, Grady! Your videos are always a masterclass in composition, photoshop trickery, and (maybe most importantly) the power of restraint. I’d watch these every morning if I could. Subscribed and looking forward to more!
Thankyou Ross! This means alot. I'm glad you enjoy my videos :D
Love your art Sir. I recently had some motivation to draw again so your video supports me in a big way. =)
Thankyou! I'm glad to here you're back to drawing :D
Excellent! So,happy to see your process I really hope you do way more of these in real time. Thanks!
I've been through several of your videos and loved them all! I had been looking for more real-time painting videos. Timelapse is great but sometimes I want to be able to see the deliberations and experimentation as they happen. I'd say even if you don't feel up to commentary, if you recorded your work and just selected certain phases to keep in realtime, timelapsing the rest, and upload it with music it would be great IMO. The commentary is good but I know it takes a certain energy and thoughtfulness you might not always have while deep in work.
The brush mentioned at 41:20 is from Greg Rutkowski's brush set, it's called "Sampled Brush 2 21". If not exact it's a 99% match.
Such a beautiful, wonderful, informative lecturing. Thank you for your step by step painting process. It super helps and I learned a lot.
The insight into your workflow and the tips you share are amazing. After watching this i feel like i learned a lot. thank you so much!!
missed a lot your content! please keep it up!
Thank you very much for the full video and tutorial, very helpful and incredible!

Thank you very much! Loved it, I hope you'll keep doing them, it's soothing and instructive at the same time, and your art is incredible.
Thanks so much Nicolas!
thanks for sharing, very educational. You motivate me to start my own channel because like you, I have self conscious about my accent and tone, but seeing you own it and making it work great is perhaps the kick I need to start
real time videos are very helpful, thank you so much for posting these and walking us through your thought process
This is awesome. Please, keep doing videos. Thanks a lot!
Thank you so much for showing this technique. I don’t get comfortable with other blending mode techniques as well and it always made me confused, but I believe I can get more comfortable with this way because I keep building up part by part. You are a great inspiration to me now so thank you very much for sharing :)
I didn't know gradiant maps were a thing, i new there were gradiant layers, but dam :O thank you so much
Thank you so much for this video! I've been havng stress and anxiety doing a painting, cuz I just can't figure out how to express the painting neatly that I wnted to be. I've learn so much from you and love your videos! Keep it up!

I simply love it.
Oooooooooooooh!!! I've been looking for this!
Yaaaaayy finally! Thank you so much - I passed your lesson on Artstation some time ago -- and it was so fucking amazing.
Oh wow! I've been waiting so long for another video. Your art inspired me to pick up art again when intense dissatisfaction with my job plunged me into depression two years ago. Today I work parttime and paint the rest of the time. I even sold my first painting a couple of days ago! Thank you, Grady. You had an incredibly important impact on my life and I will be forever grateful. Can't wait to see more of your art
Oh! One more thing - could you maybe explain the process you go through to find good references? Often I just can't find any suitable refrence for the life of me. For example most recently: a painting of theview through the mouth from inside a gemstone lined jungle cave
This comment really moved me, thank you for sharing this! I am so glad to hear you feel attachment to painting again. Congrats on selling a piece! As far as the references go; I would recommend finding one solid reference with the overall feeling that you would like to express. In your case it wouldn't even need to be a cave necessarily, it could be a dark abandoned building that merely has the lighting/mood/atmosphere that speaks to you. Then find a handful of reliable refs for jungle vegetation, gemstones, caverns etc. and bonus points if you can find these things in a similar lighting scenario to your initial ref! The final simple fact is that strong fundamentals and understanding of light, color, and value will be the last piece of the puzzle to observe your refs and translate them into your scene with good composition and lighting.
I hope this helps!
P.S. I love to grab frames from my favorite movies/cinematographers for references. These are great because they are color graded and composed in a way to be visually beautiful already! They may also include interesting camera effects you can consider like depth of field and specific focal lengths. I find it much easier to be inspired this way rather than just google images.
im big fan of urs , and im so happy u make long video .... Really , im so exicted when i see this ... Please make more video please

52:39 "Oo I know ColOr TheORY"
HE'S JUST LIKE ME FRRR. You just described me way too well lmao. Is this particular object in the shade? Time to only have that som'bitch be BLUE
thanks for pointing this out to me this was unironically super helpful advice!
Thanks for sharing
Nice one bro 🤌 keep at it. Liked and subbed
❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
I would like you to create a tutorial from start to finish, and it's fine if you fast forward the video in the final parts because it's important to see how you apply details and other adjustments. The videos can be long, and you could make them into Chapter 1 and Chapter 2." other wise your art work is INCREIBLEMENTE BUENO I LOVE IT
Cool video and very informative 👍💯
Just wow , very cool tutorial + timelapse. +1 follow
i will support you sir
great
Lets gooo
Great work bro! What are your settings for the size of the art?
Nice, hope can watch content about portfolio for apply jobs
Do you have a video on detailing? I always feel I struggle with that cause i over do it.
Can you do real time where you make the concept sketch?
Hi Grady… you don’t really need to have a camera to record yourself talking. It takes a chunk out of the painting workspace, it puts more stress on you, and it can be distracting when we should be watching the workspace. We need to hear your voice clearly, and you need to convey useful information. You need to give us the best possible view of your workspace so we can actually see the process. So, having yourself in the corner of the screen adds nothing useful, but does have drawbacks. In many of the painting tutorial channels I watch I’ve never seen what the narrator looks like… the whole screen is dedicated to the painting app and supporting material, which is perfect. Thanks for taking the time to instruct all of us!
Hey man, thanks for the kind words and the feedback. Honestly I have been wondering about this as well and trying to find the right balance. I was thinking maybe for the art portions I will remove the face cam, but still have an intro and outro like in my more recent videos (this one is quite old and I didn't really do any editing/proper camera setup). The reason for the video in the first place is that I personally like to see the faces of creators as it makes me feel more connected with their perspective and them as a person. I really appreciate your feedback, and I will certain think more on this. I think you make some really good points. Thanks for watching :D
excuse me sir!!. could you tell me how do you tie that half bun around your hair!! im growing my hair myself.
Thanks for this bro. Just quick question to everyone, i just realized that when i hit CTRL + Y to set the canvas in DOT GAIN 10/15/20/25/30 (any of those) for greyscale, the image does not look the same as when i create new hue saturation adjustment layer and i put all the saturation to cero. When i add a new hue saturation adjustment many things look much more darker than in DOT GAIN greyscale. Why is that?, i just realized about this after using DOT GAIN for 2 years already....
So... who is going to tell what is the name of that cinematic music please?
