This mall was the best as a kid in the 90's. You had a movie theater, right across from the movie theater was a big comic shop, right next to that was a giant arcade, right next to that was an EB games, and a few doors down was a music store. A little further down in the mall was a Discovery Zone.

I've had fun memories visiting Hudson Mall during field trips with my local YMCA to Discovery Zone in the early & mid 90s. Me & my brothers had a blast going to the movies & playing at the arcade. It was a smaller but fun alternative to Newport Mall located on the other side of Jersey City. Good Times.

I grew up going to that mall to hang out in the 80s and 90s. It used to have a movie theater, huge arcade, eb games, etc. That whole area was booming during Christmas in those days. There was also a Bradlees next to that mall and a Toys R US on the South end. Throughout the years, that mall was slowly dying. It only got worse when Newport Mall opened in downtown because the people on the Westside of JC could take a bus (now the light rail) to go there instead of Hudson. I'm surprised it took this long for that mall to be demolished.

    • @BrianH20

@@jrzygrl2012wow music was like the Revolver records of Jersey City. They would have official albums by the bands of the day and bootleg concert albums behind them. I used to get those black and white cotton rock shirts there and Grateful Dead patches for my jeans jacket. There was a Cole’s Books and that theater showed The Rocky Horror Picture Show every weekend. There was a tv and appliance store in one corner, and they sold a gigantic magnifying glass on a stand that you put in front of your tv to enlarge the picture.
We were there a lot in the 80s. Sad to see what it turned into.

i used to go to this mall a lot when i was younger. it used to be so full of life. i remember getting some adidas shoes at footaction and going to the movie theater (the place with the neon lights). the more i went the emptier it felt. the buffet was one of the reasons we kept going with my family. the last time i went there was last year with some friends. they went in the bath and body works and i remember standing outside just looking around and realizing we we’re basically the only ones at the mall. one of the reasons many people don’t go to that mall anymore is because of newport mall which is another mall in jersey city and it’s much bigger with more options. rip hudson mall.

This was my mall growing up. The only picture with Santa I ever got was here in 1975 ( I was 6) and I still have it. I also still have the stocking my parents had made for me here. Hung out here in high school all the time. This was the only mall that was open at the time in the 70s and 80s until 1986 when Newport Mall opened. First place I ever went shopping by myself. Theater had $2 movies and midnight Led Zeppelin Pink Floyd laser light shows. I think it played Rocky Horror too. Not sure as I was too young to go. The stores I remember from the 70s and 80s there: Hudson Mall Cinema, WOW records, the Gap with the original logo that sold t-shirts that you could pick an iron on and have them put it on ringer t shirts in front of you as you waited; Lerner; Chess King; Mandees; Casual Corner; a wallpaper store; a pizzeria where everyone used to hang out; A book store; Thom McCann; Kinney Shoes; Good Times Arcade; Pants Place Plus; Canadians; Singer sewing machine store; A store that made homemade chocolates where everything was amazing and they sold chocolate ice cubes at the register (if you don't know what those are google it); a bank; a store that sold gold jewelry; that religious store was always there and I can't believe it's still there; same with that Asian shop on the other end that sold a lot of interesting stuff. Also, a convenience store, Stuart's womens clothing; Petite Sophisticate; Ponderosa Steak House; Donut King. Going wayyyy back outside was a huge Two Guys that had absolutely everything. When they went out of buisness they broke it up into: Consumers, a dentist office, an eye doctor, Bradlees, a shop that sold discount items, La Pizza, and Shop Rite. Eventually they all went out of buisness too and they knocked everything down. On the other end of the parking lot was a free-standing Toys R Us. All the kids got their toys at either Two Guys or Toys R Us. And across the highway was Garfield Dinettes and Grandma's Pancake House.
So sad everything is gone now. As you walked down the mall I was seeing each store where they used to be.
Wow now I'm throughly depressed lol.

OMG! I was just there today and I literally broke down into tears! Hudson Mall was the got to place for many of us that lived around the area. It was where my dad had his first job in Jersey and my first job when I was in HS. I remember going to the Bank, Wok N' Roll for lunch, Foot Locker, the arcade, New York and Company, Payless, Jimmy Jazz, Rite Aid, Afterthoughts, Sam Goody, Radio Shack, Lerners, the Pizza Place, Jennifer Convertibles, the coffee cart, the nail spot, HR Block where I also worked for a brief time, the movie theater, some small boutiques and it was booming!
It was always packed on the weekends. And after a day of shopping and browsing, you'd hit up iHop! Memories! I'm 38 and it makes me so sad that there are so many things leaving. I guess all good things must come to an end. I was told that there will be a Target around that area soon. Hudson Mall would always have a special place in my childhood memory. Hopefully Newport Mall is doing what it can to stay in business too.

We used to have Arthur Treacher‘s fish and chips, the candy Emporium, Baskin Robbins, a record store, and before the movie theater there was this steak restaurant I believe it was called Bonanza. The best four dollar steak money could buy with a big potato and a big slab of Texas toast. not as good as Al Newman‘s down the road in the parking lot of Great Eastern, but was really good. and how many of you remember when they set up the pool in the middle of the mall filled it with trout and you could go fishing with those silly rubber worms?

It's simple. You want stores to move in! Lower the rent. I remember TWO GUYS. Why did they close down? Maybe Malls are a thing of the past.

I think I might have gone inside that place three times when I lived in Jersey City. The Taco Bell, an outparcel, was about the extent of my patronizing that property. It was SO ghetto and I didn't feel safe in there. Just not a good location for a mall anyway given several better malls not too far away, should have been a more mundane shopping center with more boring stores and no interior corridors. Figures it would have had a gnat infestation. Good riddance. Looks like even the most unsavory characters have abandoned that place.
