    I'm a Samoan Kiwi, born and bred in NZ but now living in Australia. The Haka is a Maori tradition, but we in Samoa have our own and it's not called a Haka. Just like all other Polynesians, they all have a similar war cry. The Haka in sports is an All Black thing. So there is no disrespect for the Haka because the New Zealand All Blacks were the first to ever have such a war cry before every game. But it's not a Maori thing only. The Hawaii Warriors are not exploiting or stealing the Haka, they are expressing themselves in a war cry like my Manu Samoa Rugby team do when they perform the Manu (our own traditional war cry) If it hadn't have been for the all conquering All Blacks rugby team, there would never have been a haka in the sporting arena. The All Blacks now have their own personal Haka, the Kapa O Pango. Leave these poly boys to do what is tradition in all Pacifica. Thanks to the All Blacks, they have made the Haka acceptable in the sporting world and admired globally and allowed us as Polynesians know that we too an express ourselves through our own War Cry.

      100% uso!! But i think this is makaga (embarrassing ) tbh. And this is why . Maori , Samoan , Islanders all relate to their own traditions, rituals , war crys etc... They identify with their traditions through 100s -1000s years of ancestry , its embedded in each cultures dna . Heres the difference , im willing to bet not many of these kids actually know what it means , probably don't have the depth of knowledge or teachings to comprehend what a haka is , and what it means to its people. But it aint their fault also , because its not culturally in their blood . How many do you think do kapahaka , how many do you think speak maori when they get home , it aint their traditions so its nothing more to them than a fancy, threatining Braveheart speech before battle. THATS WHY THIS IS SAD .Probably dont even know that the simplest of actions (the tounge poke ) was a threat to enemy reenacting how they would look when they were dead... I think its wrong uso . Identify and perform your own history. If i saw tomorrow for an example , an asian footy team performing Samoas siva tau then id be 100% in disagreement.

It does sumthin for me as if I WERE Polynesian. I've learned about the history of Polynesian people and their struggle and I relate to it. It was THEM who took me under their arms and showed me the Local way. They taught me a lot about what it was to be a local. They taught how to respect the Ina and it's people. Til this day HI is my home. DC is HOME, home, cuz that's where I'm from. But HI is home as well. I'm HOME when I'm on the islands. 💯

    But Hawaii has there own traditional war dance. when we perform the haka in NZ its because we wear our pride on our shoulders and represent our maori heritage.
    Hawaiians also have an awesome traditional haka or Ha'a Koa.
    A big part of the haka is that we get to Represent our Maori heritage.
    I think it would be awesome if you guys did a traditional Hawaiian Ha'a Koa.

Eitherway its a strong indication that their own culture must be getting weaker and weaker. They are all too stupid to realise that hawaii and new zealand, though both polynesian are thousands and thousands of kilometres away from each other and have completley different cultures and customs. @@lostdracco6744 IKR? There's like very little numbers of Native Hawaiians living in NZ compared to us Samoans and Tongans and even still, when Tonga and Samoa play for their own team, the players never do the Haka. This entitled mentality of these US Polys have or their "Hawaii and NZ are both polys and therefore the same" or "the haka brings people together" statements are just lame ass excuses so they can do the Haka to make them look cool or portray the tropical, long haired, heavy tatted, lavalava wearing warrior when the Maori aren't even that at all.
      The Hawaiians are as about the same as the NZ Maoris as every other Poly. I don't know why they want to add some mysticism or secret close connection link when they are no different from the next Poly. Heck the Cook Islands Maori, and the Tahitians have much more closer connections than the Hawaiians.

    This haka is from the tribe of ngāti kahungunu in Hawkes Bay New Zealand. And was composed by waimarama puhara for his son to tell him to "do what is right" hence the phrase "Tika tonu". Therefore it should be performed in the right setting or to a male. I am Maori of Ngāpuhi and Ngāti Kahungunu ki porangahau decent. I love our culture both as māori and kanaka maōli being expressed. Just bare in mind to be appropriate to the culture it hails from.

      josh collardey Same People.. I’m from Micronesia, and in our stories we came South and the North betrayed us all.. my people went to Central Pacific and Maori our alliances went South to those islands.. the people of Hawaii are both Oldest Clans and Youngest Clans of Asian united under Kameahmeah.. the Youngest Clans came from Asia and took Most our islands.. the Oldest Clans were already in the New World with us.. it was Israelites who welcomed the Oldest Clans of Asians to the New World.. Natives did not welcome Natives, doesn’t make sense.. so we already had our God, but the ones from Asia came and brought their Gods so my people from Marshall Islands came and we helped the wars South and we chased the enemies to the mountains of Americas.. they did not flee from Spanish. They actually fled from all of us.. idk you’ll have to do your studies.. but my people fled from Hawaii.. we are Natives of all Northern Islands but it was overtaken.. the Maori we shared lands with because we became 1 when We welcomed them.. my people are now in Central Pacific, all those islands used to be ours.. and Midway and Johnston Islands and wake Islands my people tried fighting Americans I. Court for those lands again.. Main islands Hawaii was overtaken, we still had the smaller islands in the ends of Hawaii, but Americans claimed it for a midpoint launching point and refueling station between America and Asia for World War 2. Hawaii is actually AWA YE which means PLACE OF TIME.. Hawaiians do not know what Hawaii means, they only guess, but that’s in our language that’s why.. you won’t find natives there, they’re now mixed in with those invaders and took their ways.. we fled to Central Pacific

    • @reefata7054
      @reefata7054 4 года назад +1

      @@up.northbro I guess you could call it their own version. The "ceremonial cry" is a performance DEVELOPED in a lot of our Polynesian cultures. For example the Siva Tau which is the Samoans version of the haka, was never part of historical culture. It was developed due to witnessing the All blacks performing Ka Mate, and then it basically caused a domino effect with our other Polynesian cultures developing their own version of a "ceremonial cry". The haka will rightfully forever belong to our Maori brothers and sisters.
