I'm a Samoan Kiwi, born and bred in NZ but now living in Australia. The Haka is a Maori tradition, but we in Samoa have our own and it's not called a Haka. Just like all other Polynesians, they all have a similar war cry. The Haka in sports is an All Black thing. So there is no disrespect for the Haka because the New Zealand All Blacks were the first to ever have such a war cry before every game. But it's not a Maori thing only. The Hawaii Warriors are not exploiting or stealing the Haka, they are expressing themselves in a war cry like my Manu Samoa Rugby team do when they perform the Manu (our own traditional war cry) If it hadn't have been for the all conquering All Blacks rugby team, there would never have been a haka in the sporting arena. The All Blacks now have their own personal Haka, the Kapa O Pango. Leave these poly boys to do what is tradition in all Pacifica. Thanks to the All Blacks, they have made the Haka acceptable in the sporting world and admired globally and allowed us as Polynesians know that we too an express ourselves through our own War Cry.

I’m from Micronesia, and in our stories we came South and the North betrayed us all.. my people went to Central Pacific and Maori our alliances went South to those islands.. the people of Hawaii are both Oldest Clans and Youngest Clans of Asian united under Kameahmeah.. the Youngest Clans came from Asia and took Most our islands.. the Oldest Clans were already in the New World with us.. it was Israelites who welcomed the Oldest Clans of Asians to the New World.. Natives did not welcome Natives, doesn’t make sense.. so we already had our God, but the ones from Asia came and brought their Gods so my people from Marshall Islands came and we helped the wars South and we chased the enemies to the mountains of Americas.. they did not flee from Spanish. They actually fled from all of us.. idk you’ll have to do your studies.. but my people fled from Hawaii.. we are Natives of all Northern Islands but it was overtaken.. the Maori we shared lands with because we became 1 when We welcomed them.. my people are now in Central Pacific, all those islands used to be ours.. and Midway and Johnston Islands and wake Islands my people tried fighting Americans I. Court for those lands again.. Main islands Hawaii was overtaken, we still had the smaller islands in the ends of Hawaii, but Americans claimed it for a midpoint launching point and refueling station between America and Asia for World War 2. Hawaii is actually AWA YE which means PLACE OF TIME.. Hawaiians do not know what Hawaii means, they only guess, but that’s in our language that’s why.. you won’t find natives there, they’re now mixed in with those invaders and took their ways.. we fled to Central Pacific
@@up.northbro I guess you could call it their own version. The "ceremonial cry" is a performance DEVELOPED in a lot of our Polynesian cultures. For example the Siva Tau which is the Samoans version of the haka, was never part of historical culture. The haka will rightfully forever belong to our Maori brothers and sisters.

Why don't they make a Hawaiian haka... that way they can rock it out whenever they come against a NZ team. You can't do this against a New Zealand team you will probably be embarrassed!
LEE SOLID Because the haka isn't from Hawaii or it's culture.
It was first created by Maori warriors.
MusicLover ____________ I know bro... Im from Auckland!
LEE SOLID my cousin jahlani tavai the one with the long hair , did pretty good , and all of them as well, i know its your opinion , but i think they all did legit 🔥

Somebody explain to me the connection between the Māori and the Hawaiians, because I know it's not nothin'-I just don't understand it quite yet
Kahore e tika makes my head hang low and my tipuna would be disgraced. All good to do it but do it right for my peoples sake theres plenty of kaha and ihi but the kupu and mita are kino whats with all the arm flailing theres definate actions to be done its not a freeflow haka.MANA MAORI AKE AKE we had to fight to keep our tikanga and kaupapa alive please dont disrespect it.
As someone who is from the tribe that this Haka comes from, wtf. Were you not taught properly? Or did you teach yourself? I’m sure you have Hawaiian version to perform instead
Yo I'm from Kahungunu too! So many clowns embarrassing our ancestor Waimarama Tupae. They need to embrace their own 'chant'
I didn't know Hawaiians and maori's had a similar language
josh collardey Both Polynesian
All Polynesian Languages are dialects of Austronesian, Maori, the people of Rapanui/Easter Island and Cook Islands are closest in Language.
josh collardey Same People..
Lonely Scout Oh. My dad is 100% pure Kanaka Maoli, actually. There’s less than 8,000 left. So please differentiate between Maoli, and “Hawaiians”
Its almost the same caption cook was baffled by this

Bruh dats a Maori haka g newzealand not Hawaii
this is beautiful if you don't like it too bad
why not the Ai’ha’a?
If you look back in Hawaiian culture the Haka never existed or was never a ritual performed by their ancestors. Just saying!!
I didnt know that.. i always thought all poly cultures had their own version of the haka
@@up.northbro I guess you could call it their own version. The "ceremonial cry" is a performance DEVELOPED in a lot of our Polynesian cultures. For example the Siva Tau which is the Samoans version of the haka, was never part of historical culture. It was developed due to witnessing the All blacks performing Ka Mate, and then it basically caused a domino effect with our other Polynesian cultures developing their own version of a "ceremonial cry". The haka will rightfully forever belong to our Maori brothers and sisters.
@@reefata7054 wow i didnt know that i always thought the siva tau was as old as ka mate very imteresting thank u for sharing that ree.. Mauri ora
ikr! I dont think people realize this, like the haka they did was from another culture, i wonder if they knew what that haka was even for lol
@@genzee2475 It all comes down to Cultural misappropriation you know. Its just sad that our Polynesian cousins would butcher something that's considered sacred in the Maori culture. I guess don't do it if you ain't gonna do it right cause this hot mess is sloppy as hell and disrespectful period...smh
But..... completely amazing
Strange to see other cultures doing the Haka. But good on them on and great to see other nation taken in the Maori culture.
American Samoan is may believe themselves different.
I would love for you to state the differences.
Please help us understand.
Americans know nothing.
Keep practicing boys ,got a long way to go....
Yooo what is Van Dijk doing here
we will we will rock you
Yessah!!
This sounds like the haka from kahuku high school...but from years ago=) But Kahuku high now has a haka specifically made for them. Just MY opinion, this haka performed by the UH wahines - oops, I mean warriors (oooookaaay) lacked what the the red raiders had when chantting it... i.e. heart, passion and confidence...just saying=)
it's the Tika Tonu haka, that's why. it's actually a haka about becoming a man. but they do it too fast amd it almost seems like they don't know the true meaning behind it
ae ra ehoa tika tonu is ment to be performed real slow.they rushing it like alot of maoris do.alot of peeps dont no that its ment to be performed slow but ehoa i must give it to these young fallas, for non maori performing this haka they did it staunch as.at least there kupu it correct...

Crazy question but is this dance towards some one or a God? No disrespect at all just figured I'd ask. Mawmaw always said there's no dumb question but the one unasked.
The name of the haka is tika tonu . Its about a father teaching his son to basically become a man it goes deeper than that but that is the short version. It took 2 years but hey u finally got an answer
