- Made from the trunk of a Silver Birch. The wood has been drying naturally now for about 3 years, sealed at both ends with wax.
The colour effect is done with wood stain sprayed on, finished in Danish Oil.

8:18 of my time well spent.
Very interesting.
AWESOME
Thank you! Cheers!
I can only speak for myself, but I have yet to see a mediocre project from you. And this looks like it was much more time consuming than most. Beautiful piece. Thank you again Mr. Jordan.
Thanks very much Gary
Couldn’t agree with this more!
Very nice sir
Thanks and welcome
Another amazing piece, Matt. Now we can add airbrushing to your list of skills. I would have gone crazy making all of those divots. It reminded me of Mike Stinnett (Stinnett Sticks on RUclips) doing snake scales on his carvings. Check him out (if you haven't already). I think you'll like it. I sent him to your other channel when you made sawdust bricks for your wood stove.
Bill
Thanks Bill, I'll check his channel out
Nice
Thanks
Are you sure that's Silver Birch? The bark looks a bit thick and dark, not papery like typical birch bark.
100%, I have the top part of the tree too! Silver Birch bark starts to crack open with age and form the bark you see here.
Wood lost again to MJ skills!😮
Woodturning is not my forte but you've encouraged me to try it.
👏👏👏👏👏👌👍🏳️🌈
This makes me so sad. The design and craftsmanship is A-1 but all those colors bring the finished piece way down. I’m sorry.
Great result, looks almost aboriginal, don’t ask me why!
When you first started carving the texture, your sizes were very consistent. I thought it looked like corn on the cob, only backwards. Great paint job. Thanks for the videos. 😎
Thanks 👍

@1:36 - awww nevermind, I'll just spin it LOL.
Rustic and artful at the same time. Very cool!
Wonderful Artistry and Craftsmanship! Matt, Where can one learn this skill? Are there schools that teach this?
I'm self taught, but you could search to see if there are any local woodturning clubs near you
I love to listen to ur vids with earbuds in at max volume 🥰
I’m pretty sure if you look up “creative genius” in the dictionary, it would say, “Matt Jordan”. Amazing vase.
Thank you Matt! I completely agree with Gary You must have the patience of Job to do that dremel work!
What I especially noticed with this piece is that you'll always have a new piece just by giving it a quarter turn. Brilliant! 🙂
Blessings! 💜
Thanks Trish
Looks amazing..I can't help be see an image of a colourful ghost on the large coloured side with 2 little beedy eyes👻
looks diseased
Need to be more careful where you stick it if it looks like this.
Should have called this the Trypophobia vase. "Trypophobase"
This piece looks so cool the big design kind of looks like the whale from finding Dory.
This is cool, but it would also have been cool if you left the bark on the bottom and made the smooth vase on top.
Very innovative. Reminds me of the iguanas in the USVI.

Stunning piece, Matt! Amazing work!!! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you! Will do!
Matt, if your work isnt in the Smithsonian yet, it should be, and no doubt will be. Incredible talent and creativity!
I would never consider doing something like this, but the result is very satisfying.
Hey Matt! I've been watching you stuff for years. I've owned a lathe for awhile and I'm finally starting to use it. I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of a good starter drill set and carbide tool set? I see yours and the ones that came with mine are very dull and I don't want to sharpen every 15 minutes.
Thanks, do you mean the Forstner bits?

You make this look so easy, but I'm sure it is not! And I bet you are a professional turner, and that is why you make it look so easy. Anyway your vase is stunning!! Thank you for sharing. ❤😊❤, Dona USA
thank you for this "tripophobic nightmare fuel" project
Most welcome
Nice one Matt, just goes to show what starting out with a plan can lead to :) A well considered piece.
Mike, that honeycomb effect is beautiful, well done!
What do you use to seal your bowls that is food safe also great videos
Danish Oil, check with the manufacturer their type is rated for food if you're going to use it for that, some Danish Oils are not rated
Very unique!! Absolutely love it!!
Yup… superb!
Beautiful piece of wood 👏👏
Thank you very much!
I wonder how do you come up with a design. Do you let the wood "guide" you?
I normally do, had no idea other than a vase when I started this
@@MattJordanWoodturning I love 💕 it, thanks for showing your skills and knowledge, much appreciated.
Simple yet elegant
What the hell did I just see?
Not sure you tell me?
Love this! ❤
Love wood
Beautiful and creative piece once again. You always inspire me. Stay safe.
Thank you, I will
It looks very beautiful. Nice job! 👍💯Thank you, Mr Matt. All the best to you
