let's be real and clarify what happened, it's cuz he had been playing the puck in midair so the opponent player in fact did pull on him, but if that wasn't the case that shirt pull was obvious and I'd think he wanted the call, avoiding guilty conscious is indeed commendable but it's not like he just threw a penalty away for no reason cuz he's a saint of character.
This is how the best of the best are supposed to conduct themselves. He doesn’t want to beat you when you can have an excuse of a BS penalty call to go back on, he wants to beat you straight up so there is no doubt who is best. A true champion
I remember Wayne Gretzky once successfully arguing against an icing call against his team, and the commentators noted that only Gretzky could do that. So I guess the moral of the story is that even before breaking Gretzky's goal scoring record, Ovechkin has already achieved Gretzky levels of respect.
The huge difference being him saying it wasn´t a foul against him, not him telling the refs "hey give me that foul"... A lot easier to deny a foul than demand one.
@@elguychopper yeah but do you understand why? It's not because of great sportsmanship, it's so he can get calls when he wants them. Did you catch all of that, in the statement?
It's called not wanting easy calls, when you don't need them. Do this show, and refs are more likely to believe you in the future. Use that to your advantage, when you need penalties against the other team. It's an old tactic, not utilized by many young players. Also, we don't need hockey to turn into, football/soccer.

Dude bought a homeless dude a jacket because it was a cold day in my city. He asked the people who recognized him not to go to the media, but someone did anyway. He was trying not to be recognized for it. Just wanted to help a guy who looked cold
Ovechkin got his 50th goal of the season, game went into OT, and Theodor from Vegas had an awesome goal to win the game. Hope VGK bounces back this year. They do better as an underdog without the pressure.
