This tutorial was the best I have seen. Thank you so much! Most of the other tutorials just say, "do this, do that, and we're done." Never truly explaining anything. You have made an absolutely thorough tutorial all while keeping me captivated. Again, thank you!
"I hope you enjoyed it and learned a few things" Dude, I learned a shit tonne of things. WOW! This video is amazing and just what I needed. I can't believe some people disliked the video.
This video was spectacular. For me I believe that this is the best sculpting tutorial that I have ever seen. It just made sense to me the way that you described things. There was so much good information packed it this video. Excellent, excellent job. Thank you very much :D
Wow, you here! I want to thank you for your tutorials! The "Create a capital ship" tutorial has really launched me into Blender, and I am now starting a 3D modelling school. Thank you for that.
Thanks for the kind words. I think that in school most likely they will have you using Maya. However most 3D programs are very similar. Thanks again for the kind works and nice to see you here on the Agenza Brothers RUclips channel. These guys are spectacular :D
dude i legit thought about the same when he finished and just did the same thing when hearing how long it took. literally eating cereal and all, watching this for my morning productivity.
I have just gone through this again and find it to be one of the best video tutorials , in terms of clarity and expertise, that I have come across on RUclips. It is fantastic!
I could watch this tutorial a thousand times, it was really useful, and not at all boring, also thx for saying "sponsor time" so i can skip that part and not waste any time.
This is really enthralling. I've been clicking back and forth between this and blender and learning so much. Thank you very much for taking the time to make and post this. Watching this creature take shape and picking up little tips has been great fun.
This is the most useful tutorial I've seen so far for properly blocking out a sculpt in Blender. So many people seem to start by making a head, then just snake hooking the body and limbs out of it, or just diving straight in with the poly modelling. I haven't done 3D work in ages, which is why I'm watching Blender tutorials, but those approaches just seems wrong to me. Creating the basic form of the character in a single mesh like you would in Z Brush is so useful and I've found it surprisingly hard to find anybody explaining how to do it in Blender. Thank you so much!
Simply amazing! I sat down to only get a feel of how complex it would be to follow along. I found myself just sitting and watching at how easy it was to pick up on the cues you gave. Thank you so much for making this tutorial!
Thank AgenZasBros! I've had an extremely large interest in 3DCG for the past two months and am learning as many skills as I can. Your videos have been incredibly helpful to me. I've learned a lot about modelling and texturing, but now I'm wanting to get more into character modelling. Sculpting is the next big skill I want to start practicing, so far I've only done lots of low-poly modelling and covering it up with texturing techniques and particle systems. This is just a hobby for me, but I'm having a really fun time making my way through learning this stuff. The stuff you put out has really made a large impact on my life and I'm really happy Zach is continueing down the path of providing content for the masses. I know you don't read the comments on here, but I needed to at least say thank you so much for having the impact on my life that you've had.
Not only did I find this a great tutorial for sculpting, but I never knew that "ambient occlusion" option was sitting there in the wings! Makes sculpting so much easier to see!
Great tutorial! I just spent multiple hours experimenting with sculpting on my own. After watching this, I feel that I will have more direction on how to achieve what I want. Thank you for sharing!
Hi everyone! After reading some comments here, I just wanted to mention, that even if in the title the word "Introduction" is includet it does not mean that it is an introduction to blender in general. Many of your questions shows that you don't understand the basics of Blender. This is only an inroduction to sculpting. Like for any other specific topic, if you want to learn sculpting, you have to know the basics of Blender, like UI, navigation, selecting, modeling etc. Check out ruclips.net/user/cgboorman or this beginners series ruclips.net/video/JYj6e-72RDs/видео.html Thanks! ~Zacharias
I am having a weird issue. I'm having trouble with the sculpt work flow. I made my basic mesh, applied the mirror modifier, added the multi res modifier. Kicked up the subdivs to 3 then tried 4. When I try to sculpt around the torso I hit an invisible edge that will not allow me to sculpt around the front, if I try to sculpt the sides of the mesh it affects the arms, even when I tried to hide one arm the other one showed that it was being affected so I try to mask the arms from front and back view the mask jumps over to the lower torso, my brush is small and and hands are far from the hips so I don't understand why it's doing this. I tried uninstalling blender and reinstalling and didn't change any of the default settings but it is still doing it. I don't know if there's a setting i'm missing from the default.
One of the better sculpting tuts I've seen! Thanks so much. Yes, I think one needs a basic understanding of Blender before attempting this. I would think this is a given, but some just don't get it. I'm very much a noob in Blender, but I would recommend folks spent a month or so doing some modeling first. You will be forced to learn all of the tools needed for navigating, modifying, etc.
Awesome video! I've been looking for such a video about sculpting for a long time. Everything is said, and not every step is explained like in other videos for beginners. Perfect!
38:50 i dont understand what you do there, recreate the body using what ? - please i am looking to know that part, what is that part called,- and what should i look for to find the tutorial ?
I think the reason we see so many complains in the comments is probably because some people thought that when it said "introduction" it would mean starting from the basics. You should change the title and remove that word so people don't think this is beginner level and they look for videos about how to start from scratch. Awesome video btw
I would say that it the basic stuff, he didn't do anything I don't understand and i have not even touched Blender. The basic things people should learn themself.
At around 3:00 he starts shaping an object without showing which tool he's using or where he opened that tool. A beginner would have no idea how to do that. How did you know what to do if you've never touched Blender?
I wouldn't, unless I tried finding out on my own. It is like finding out if berries are poisonous, you can't know until you try, the only difference is that trying isn't going to kill you in a 3D program..
For anyone using Blender 2.9 at 10:30 - 10:50. The sculpt tool add-on he mentions to download in the beginning of the video doesn't work on 2. 9. You will have to go to your Preferences>Add-ons and type in Bool Tool and check on the box. Now go and select all the objects as he mentions and on the Top Right Side of the 3D Viewport there are tabs. If you don't see any tabs, they are probably hidden so you will have to click or drag on the little arrow next to the Gizmos. Item, Tool, View, Edit. Click on the Edit tab and it will give you the option for Union. I got the same result although I am not sure how it will work out in the end.
Thank you very much for this wonderful video! I have been learning Blender for about a year now, and I have just started to learn about sculpting - since there is so much detail as far as anatomy and physiology is concerned, this video was a huge help in my work! I will have to make more use of the clay stripes brush, and will definitely look out for that relative detail feature - I unfortunately learned the hard way how that brush can rapidly cause your polygon count to get out of control!
Hey, I'd like to thank you for such a solid tutorial. I've been looking for one for a long time, but never found any as good as this! Keep it up, man! From your newest subscriber
Thank you so much for this! I learned to use sculpting in Blender years ago, probably, yet I never found out how to really use it properly! This changes everything for me! I didn't know Blender could interpolate verts automatically for you when sculpting! Sculpting is finally enjoyable! Now I better check how to do texture painting properly... I'm probably missing out on a lot of neat features.
This is a fantastic tutorial and has helped me a lot! Thank you for the good explanation of sculpting and the tools to perform the sculpting, as well as the settings in Blender that can make the process easier and more enjoyable.
Really really good tutorial! Well explained and full of useful stuffs. I can't wait to see the one on the procedural material you show in the end. I would like to see the retopology too, even if youtube is full of tutorials on that subject, because the way you explain things is simply way better than the average :)
Your work is amazing, no question. I do a few things differently myself. Can somebody please tell me, what funcion is used to recreate the topology of the mesh in the end of the video? Autor say that there is lot of videos about it on YT, but I can´t find anything similar because i dont know the name of it.
I need help!! Every time I click on union (10:43) it joins the parts weirdly, it is not joining the parts normally like in the video! Some times the legs of the model even disappear when I click union for some reason! Pls help!!!
hi, im new to blender and the whole 3D modelling, i'd like to know how you select the vertex behind the one visible @3:10, when i try to do it myself it only select the one facing the facing me... this ended up with only 1 side when i tried to use extrude region... thanks.
For people still struggling with this, here is how I solved it for me: Select your object, go into edit mode, select all vertices (A) and in the tools menu press "Remove Doubles". For soms reason I had almost 2000 double vertices. Repeat for the other objects you intend to merge, just to be sure. Now try uniting them again.
@@tomtruyens7998 The reason you had so many doubles is that when you mirrored the legs it also mirrored the body over itself, therefore, doubling all the vertices in the mesh.

ok, so whenever I use the snake hook, it stops doing stuff after about a second of use. It also doesn't create any more polygons for me to use, it just acts like the grab tool
oh. sorry for my ignorance i saw something about dutch version in the description. but any way. every single video i had saw with people speaking with that particular accent.are just amazing. for example (and maybe im wrong about the nationality ,but for me (mexico-thailand) accents is quite similar. check this: Fenchel & Janisch (photgraphy), Peter Stammbach (3D modeling).and the reach approach (meditation and spirituality).the guy speaks english pretty well but they are from aroud there aswell. by the way i saw some news about something abut to happend in germany(goverment asking for people to gatter water and stuff) don´t know what is all about but i hope you all be ok and safe.
by the way 2 things.#1 do you know some other teachers around the web, youtube. with this kind of teaching approach?. be it dutch,,german or alike. but in english. and #2 im trying to make a new terminology for this kind of teachers so people around the world have it easier to find.as an example let´s say we name it Germanglish, eruotorial or Skhoolatic.( you are better fitted to come out with something more adecuate). so that kind of teaching means, it has not all the falls of american way of teaching something. wich is: cocky , fullfiled with unecesariy words and explanations, etc, etc. so. can you come out with some kind of name for that?.
can someone help me? I extracted the file into my documents and saved it, and then when i opened Blender the add it to the add-ons, i select it and click on install from file, and then nothing happens. i cant even find it on the list to enable someone please help me
Probably too late to help you, but it might help someone else - pretty sure you're not supposed to unzip the zip file that you downloaded. Just leave the zip as it is, tell Blender that's the file to install from and Blender will work its magic.
the sculpt tool doesnt do anything for me.. maybe i am using it wrong (edit, its working now, but i cannot figure out how to get it to add more verticies on its own..)

Again thanks you very much ! A really professionnal tutorial, and for free :)
when your putting the mirror modifier on the leg at 3:58, is there a certain thing I have to do to make the leg mirror on the other side of the creature? (mine just ends up rotated in the same spot as the other)
This is a legit', damn good tutorial video. Thanks, bro.
gained another sub!
Please don't stop! @blenderguru has provided the basics knowledge, @YanSculpt has provided character knowledge and you have provided tool knowledge! Thanks!
Thank you a lot for this video. I shared it with my coworkers.
You're welcome! Thanks for sharing.
i think u mean't to say cow orkers
3:12 How did you shape it??
This suppose to be intro for noobs. U clicking so fast, hiding panels and not explaining shortcuts. Its hard to follow.
I believe he is using the snake hook thing to create the shape and add polygons.
he uses x-ray mode. (I'm a blender 2.8 user so I don't really know where x-ray mode is in 2.7 or lower. I hope this helps!
This is amazing ZACH thank you so much you are awesome!
Excellent intro to sculpting.....thanks guys!
No-nonsense, straight to the point, and thorough. Very nice tutorial! Thanks! :)
how did u dragged the uv sphere like that? whenever i drag mine the dots are moved not the body 2:46
When i join the legs and arms to the body they turn black where they connect kinda like a shadow but when i look at them in a certain way its normal
very good tutorial Zas. Thank you very much
Great tut man, very, very helpful(Also your german accent is adorable)
ok, so whenever I use the snake hook, it stops doing stuff after about a second of use. It also doesn't create any more polygons for me to use, it just acts like the grab tool
dont know why dutch instructors are just amazing!
Hey, if you're talking about me, I'm German. ;) But dutch people are amazing (Blender is from the Netherlands). :D
oh. sorry for my ignorance i saw something about dutch version in the description. but any way. every single video i had saw with people speaking with that particular accent.are just amazing. for example (and maybe im wrong about the nationality ,but for me (mexico-thailand) accents is quite similar. check this: Fenchel & Janisch (photgraphy), Peter Stammbach (3D modeling).and the reach approach (meditation and spirituality).the guy speaks english pretty well but they are from aroud there aswell. by the way i saw some news about something abut to happend in germany(goverment asking for people to gatter water and stuff) don´t know what is all about but i hope you all be ok and safe.
by the way 2 things.#1 do you know some other teachers around the web, youtube. with this kind of teaching approach?. be it dutch,,german or alike. but in english. and #2 im trying to make a new terminology for this kind of teachers so people around the world have it easier to find.as an example let´s say we name it Germanglish, eruotorial or Skhoolatic.( you are better fitted to come out with something more adecuate). so that kind of teaching means, it has not all the falls of american way of teaching something. wich is: cocky , fullfiled with unecesariy words and explanations, etc, etc. so. can you come out with some kind of name for that?.
Really great video! Thank you so much for your help! Keep up the great work!!
can someone help me? I extracted the file into my documents and saved it, and then when i opened Blender the add it to the add-ons, i select it and click on install from file, and then nothing happens. i cant even find it on the list to enable
someone please help me
Probably too late to help you, but it might help someone else - pretty sure you're not supposed to unzip the zip file that you downloaded. Just leave the zip as it is, tell Blender that's the file to install from and Blender will work its magic.
the sculpt tool doesnt do anything for me.. maybe i am using it wrong (edit, its working now, but i cannot figure out how to get it to add more verticies on its own..)
