I'm heading to Germany later this year and bought the Lovevook to try out on that trip. Can't wait to see how this works for my travels. Thanks for this video and review!
That Lovevook backpack is certainly a favorite of many RUclipsrs and I feel like a freak that I don’t care for it. Ordered it twice and returned it both times. It just felt very bulky. The fabric feels very thick and stiff and maybe all those pockets add to the bulk. Also didn’t like the top load feature, much prefer a partial fold-down drawbridge type opening. For now I’m sticking with my Vera Bradley Campus Backpack. Roughly the same size, about 1.5 lbs and I got it on sale for about $40. Has a laptop area, enough pockets, nice trolley sleeve and my water bottle fits side pockets just fine. And it’s squishy! I always enjoy your videos and you often inspire me rethink some of my methods. Thanks for your thoughtful presentations.
I've heard a lot of people love their Vera Bradley bags, always good to have lots of options :). And of course, we all have our own individual preferences when it comes to organization!!😀
Aer Lingus had a relatively generous carry on bag allowance but a teeny tiny personal item allowance. But they were great. I loved flying across the Atlantic on them
I have the Baggallini Tribeca expandable laptop backpack and I love it. Took it to Europe for 2 weeks and it holds so much. Great pockets for organization. And very lightweight before even packing. I choose this style because I’m not a fan of the metal rim backpacks.
FABULOUS! This is the first backpack review I’ve seen that shows how the straps adjust when you’re wearing the backpack. (I’ve been shopping sporting goods stores for a travel backpack and a lot of them are super hard to adjust the fit to make it easy to slip off or cinch it higher on your back to carry it comfortably.)
You can add Swissair to the airlines with stricter limits: 40x30x10 cm = that's only 3.9" wide! However, when we flew Swissair, they allowed some that were a bit wider.
I have the Baggallini and have travelled to Europe three times with it over the last 9 months. It worked as a personal item on the stingiest of airlines (Air France, I'm looking at you) and has held up really well. I made a few modifications to personalise it and make it more useful (elastic on one side pocket and a grommet on the other side from the main body into the pocket to feed a charging cord through and shortened the straps). The Lovevook was the bag I had considered purchasing at the time, and I am happy with the Baggallini. Would still like to try the Lovevook, though, as well. Thanks for the side by side comparison!
I have a babboon2themoon mini and a couple of LeSportsac medium weekenders I use. And my old Victorinox backpack. No gate agent has ever looked twice at them
I got the Loveook back pack 2 years ago and have made 3 trips to Europe with it. It was great on the trains and if I did not stuff it too full, it fit under the airline seat no problem. It is comfortable to wear as a backpack and very well made for that price point. I bought the one that has a locking main compartment. Peace of mind on the train as I fall asleep so easily on the train.
Thank you for your videos! As a fellow Genx-er and now an empty nester, my husband and I are planning to travel more. I have the Luvevook backpack and used it on a recent trip to Canada (Banff). It worked really well! PS. LOVE your sweater!
I just bought the Wandf 18x14x8 backpack which comes with all the features I've been looking for, and am looking forward to seeing how it performs during travel
Very informative video with plenty of suggestions and comparisons. On another note this is the first time that your videos have popped up on my feed and I have to remind you ( because I am sure that you hear it often ) you are absolutely beautiful. Have a GREAT trip and I am looking forward to seeing more of your videos.
I recently bought a new travel backpack that has a chest strap to link the two backpack straps. This has made it so much easier to carry on my back, as I have sloping shoulders.
I came across both of these bags a lot in my RUclips Europe travel research! I love the comparison video you have done! I ordered 3 Lovevooks; the 17in in cream/black (after it arrived I realized it's too big for an everyday bag or europe flight personal item bag) & 15.6 inch to compare sizes. then i ordered a 2nd 15.6 to match my new carry-on (IT lightweight in almond brown) thinking I was going to select only one. Well - i'm blown away at the quality, aesthetic and functionality of these bags. I'm keeping them ALL for the price of one bagallini. I plan to use the large bag for domestic / weekend road trips as my only luggage. The smaller ones as personal item alongside my carry-on or as a regular day use backpack while traveling - in Black/gray & Tan/Brown 😂 i'm terrible!! 🛍️
Thanks for the review. I just received my Lovevook backpack today. I’ve been wanting to try it since we have a Mediterranean cruise in June. This came in time for a road trip we’re taking. I think I will like it. Great price. Lots of pockets and my 15” laptop fits great. Seems to be good quality.
Update.. Perrie has a new video with 2 bags that are European fit and have a crossbody strap, too. Now ordering to compare to both Lovs I have before I make the final decision.
I use that exact Baggelini backpack to commute to work. It has held up well for more than 2 years now and it is a great bag. I fit a 24oz Owala water bottle no problem. I just ordered a similar Lovevook backpack to the one you are showing. I'm a tiny under 5' gal, so not sure I'll like the new bag. Just wanted something different, but we will see. The Lovevook arrives later today.
I just came through DFW yes from Paris for my global entry interview. It was very different than your experience. I kept looking for the signs but ultimately I had to go through the regular long line for US passports. I asked the agent if she could take care of my global entry interview and she said yes. I had documents ready but she only asked what city I lived in. Then she asked why we were in Europe. Then she gave me my number and said I would get my card in 1 week. This process may different at each site just like security 🤷♀️. I’m looking forward for my next trip to skip the line. I would recommend to do the interview before the trip. We didn’t have any available appointments in our city.
I decided to go through all the European Airlines and get the size of the SMALLEST personal item I could find, and started there. I ended up buying the Dagne Dover Large Landon Carryall Duffel Bag, since when emptied at my destination, I can use it as a tote around town and not look like a tourist because it doesn't look like a travel bag, and it's not a backpack that folks can try to pick pocket out of. also, When I flew to Europe previously I had the Sara Jessica Parker / Samsonite collaboration Backpack - no it was not anti-theft but I at least had my ex-boyfriend along with me, making sure no one was trying to get into the larger section (I think I would feel it though)
Got the loovelok sp? And returned it because it was awkward with the metal opening at the top and not swishable…🙂 have a baggalini tote. It hold a ton, is more lightweight than the backpack and has a luggage sleeve. I’ve taken all over Europe with no problems. Love it!
I have that Baggalini bag (at Costco it cost only about $60 or $70). I took it on a 3-week, 4-country trip to visit friends and family in Europe in Oct 2023. Though I generally love Baggalini purses, I really regretted traveling by air with this bag. We traveled on legacy airlines for the transatlantic and trans Europe flight, as well as one flight on budget airline Ryan Air. It’s heavy, in my opinion. The backpack straps were awkward to put on/take off my shoulders, and they were difficult to adjust. I also didn’t like this bag format at all (tall, narrow rectangle, with a “jaw” type top opening). Even if only 2/3 or 3/4 packed in the main compartment, it’s impossible to access anything at the bottom or inside the interior pockets without emptying the contents on top. Also, when fully packed, the zipper on the “jaw” opening was difficult and slow to open and close and required a lot of assistance from my other hand to hold the zipper tape taut and the jaws together, esp on the journey back home when it was packed more fully. Maybe that was just a zipper quality issue with my specific bag (unlike the dozen+ Baggalini purses I’ve owned, this bag style in the Costco store had lots of thread ends hanging that I had to trim myself after purchase). But resistance zipping over the “jaw humps” on either end could be a characteristic of this style bag.
Thank you Ms. Gypsy!! (I always forget your real name). Another great video. I use the large Lovevook backpack for some of my music gear. I love that it has light-colored lining, easy to see. Wish it had a chest strap. It is a good bag. I really appreciate the bottle holders! Best around I think! I don't think I'd use it as a personal item though. I have an old Swiss bagpack that works well but I do want to to upgarde that one as it's hardto find stuff.
So in a battle of bags who wins between your Nomad Lane Bento Bag and these book bag bags? Btw I found a knock off of the Bento Bag on Amazon and have been very pleased with its performance thus far 😊 thanks for another amazing video!
I actually don't have the Lane Bento Bag, although I've seen quite a few others that have talked about it. I'm a backpack kind of girl because I usually check or gate check my suitcase, so I like to be able to distribute the weight of what I'm carrying across my back. Especially if I'm traveling a lot throughout whatever country I'm going to. 🙂
Got the Baggallini at Costco for $60 and like it a lot. Don’t think I’d pay over $100 for it though. I found the water bottle pockets very generously sized.

Icelandair personal item size is only 15.7x11.8x5.9. I did find a Luvevook that met the tiny 5.9 depth, if not filled.
If I had to put it in their sizer, I would have had to empty the outer pockets. Luckily I didn’t have to.
Hi, which Lovevook bag did you buy? I am flying & need a bag with same dimensions. Cheers.
On a lot of low cost carriers (eg Ryanair, easyJet) it doesn’t matter if it fits under the seat it has to fit in the sizer
Correct. And for Ryanair this has to be 40x25x20. Which would be 15,75 x 9,8 x 7,8. And no heavier than 7,5 kg.
Yes, always check measurements from the airline you are flying.
