Almost nine years since you posted this, and you're still helping us out! I have the service manual, but seeing the process while reading the manual before diving in really helps. I'm fortunate enough to have a lift so going to try to transplant a new gearbox this weekend. I've got a 2006 petrol L322 but it sure looks similar from underneath. Thank you for taking the time to film and share your work to help out so many others mate!
Good advice here, thanks. I have a V8 petrol, with a double exhaust. On this one you definitely have to drop the exhaust. It is a bit of a bitch, because the entire exhaust system is one piece and cannot be split. So make sure you have enough room to move it out of the way once you have removed it.
Easy to SAY undo the torx bolt around the transfer case case but harder to do. Easy to SAY drop the transfer support but alot harder to do without dropping the exhaust
how hard a job was this? i currently own a defender and do some work on that myself. so i can do some car work, but how hard was this job to do as im thinking of getting a td6 range?

Its a fairly straight forward job, with no problems. It maybe a problem if you have not got a car lift

Easy job on tdv8 vogue
I have a petrol one, with two exhaust pipes. On this, maybe the exhaust needs to be removed first?
