AHHHHHHHH 10:09 HI YES STUDYING MIDWIFE HERE! we have the same length of training as a typical doctor we’re just not trained to do things like c sections. We do a 4 year RN degree then we do MINIMUM 2 years in a experiencial rotation (basically a residency) under a fully certified usually senior (long practicing) midwife. Most of us do 5 year rotations under an experienced midwife sometimes under several midwives. Then you have a choice. You can continue working at wherever you did your rotation/s or you can try to open your own practice. You could also work in a hospital birthing center setting as well. We are NOT glorified first aid people. We are NOT a bad option. If you want a look into what midwives ACTUALLY do check out the historical period piece Call the midwives (bare in mind some of the situations they encounter are not exactly common in Europe the UK or the states anymore but many are) also I believe it’s called one born every minute has an excellent look into modern midwifery as it’s practiced in I believe England/britain (can’t remember where exactly across the uk they filmed) idk of any media depicting midwives here in the states though unfortunately. But yeah. No. She’s very incorrect there and had to make sure that was ya know known in the comments for anyone who’s not familiar with midwifery
And yes. Well deliver your baby in a barn AS LONG AS ITS DRAPED PROPERLY AND THATS WHAT YOU WANT! we’ll deliver your baby in a barn a pool your backyard your bathtub on your couch in your bed in a birthing center and even a hospital as long as that’s what YOU want. And for my USA based folks we’re a HECK of a lot cheaper than a hospital. With insurance a birthing center birth will run you about 5k give or take. For reference my nephews birth (perfectly health mom and baby 9lber no complications I did not deliver him) ran my sister about 75k and that was after insurance. They bill you for EVERYTHING. They bill you exorbitantly for the bandaid after the heel prick lmfao.) my own sons birth was upward of half a million as he was born prematurely
Just because she doesn't have a mom doesn't mean she doesn't know what she wants, I didn't have a mom growing up, I took advice from others but didn't use it if it didn't work for me... also Gretchen your experience isn't going to help her as your experience was back in the day and may not be up to standards... I bet she gonna jeopardize her pregnancy because of older practices... and a midwife isn't anything what she thinks... but what do ik, I don't have a mom as well...
