The reason the print results changed when using your PC is because of ICC profiles and maintaining color accuracy from the original source to the printer. When connecting through USB on the printer, it handles this. It also will be handling paper type and print quality based on that. When using the PC, you need to ensure you have the correct paper chosen for print quality and all the settings will work to get the best results. Also, the color profile of the images themselves need to be adhered to. Not all PC's have ICC profiles set or are set up to maintain this from one program to the next. The printer should have this association also, and it's best for the printer to know the paper type you're using so it can use the ICC profile for that paper. Then it's using the color profile meant for the original image, as well as adjusting color for the type of paper used. This is important since different types of paper have different brightness or vibrancy, white levels, etc. Some are cooler or warmer, and thus the ink will appear different on it. Last, this is a dye-based ink printer, where the paper type will mean absorption of the dye varies. The printer has to adjust for this to get the best result. It's why the best setting using paper that is less absorbent resulted in over-saturated colors. If I had to guess, it'll be about 40+ letter sizes of a coloured image. It seemed like it did run out of ink fast and if I had known that, I would've probably gone for an ecotank printer.
