A lot of “witches” don’t understand. I’m into this stuff and I know it can be harmful if your messing with things you don’t know. Most of these people don’t realize it’s not about doing harmful things with this kind of power, it’s the fact you’re getting this power from something other than God.
This is the first time I’ve seen witchcraft fully explained in biblical context. I’ve always been so confused about this subject, as I always saw magic to be a fantasy growing up and nothing else, now becoming a Christian people seem to be condemning children’s books based on magical abilities when really the core is no different to having superpowers. If we can’t read books that involves magic, then surely The lion the witch and the wardrobe is off limits too, despite having Christian themes and messages. My School teachers would always read us those books and this was a Christian school
I'm so glad you were able to learn something new! With Choosing books, movies, etc., it's always good to use our discernment and ask the Holy Spirit for guidance. We agree that usually the themes of magic in stories written for children and young adults is GENERALLY focused more on friendship, good vs. evil (with good winning), loyalty, and honesty. The magic is just a backdrop and not intended to have a negative impact or to get kids interested in pursuing "real" magic.
@Sean Sean This is exactly right! That's why it's a good practice for us to examine our hearts and spirits regularly. We can't make one decision like this at 8 or 12 or 16 ir 20 and stick with it our entire lives. We change over time and our life circumstances change, so it's best to remain vigilant.

C.S. Lewis is a Christian. It’s not that we don’t want to read books ABOUT magic- it’s how the magic is portrayed. Which most of the time magic is shown to give us power in a good way… which is dangerous. But C.S. Lewis shows the magic belongs to the bad character. So we do want to show the world accurately and not sweep the evil under a rug.
I've grown from my mom teaching me about the bible. So each time I hear "witchcraft" I get chills. Sorcerers, voodoo, a peek into the future, charms, etc
It IS a matter of personal conviction as watching movies is not something the Bible tells us is sinful. (And there IS a difference between ACTUALLY attempting witchcraft vs. watching a fictional story that features witchcraft.) Believers can have differing personal convictions, and that's OK. Human beings just don't have that ability. A supernatural being might make them THINK they do, but it's not a power that humanity has been given.
